Denver Broncos blog, news and rumors

(Andrew Mason/MaxDenver)

This offseason, we’re going to do a Speak Up series looking at each position (o-line, d-line, etc).  Today, we’re looking at the offensive line.

We want to know what you think the Denver Broncos‘ trenches should look like this season.  Should the 2011 unit stay in place, or should changes be made?

Returning:  C/G Manny Ramirez, G Zane Beadles, T Ryan Clady, T Chris Clark, T Orlando Franklin, G Chris Kuper, T Adam Grant, T Ryan Harris, OL Tony Hills and C J.D. Walton.

Acquired:  C/G C.J. Davis,  C Philip Blake, G Austin Wuebbles, T Mike Remmers and G Wayne Tribue.

Last season, the Broncos’ offensive line consisted of Clady, Beadles, Walton, Kuper and Franklin.  If Kuper can fully recover from an ankle injury he suffered last season, we expect the offensive line to stay in place moving forward.

For the sake of offseason discussion however, there are some players the Broncos could move around. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Merely days after cover voting started, Denver’s two representatives — linebacker Von Miller and quarterback Tim Tebow — were eliminated in the cover vote for the Madden NFL 13 video game athlete.  That didn’t stop EA Sports from featuring several historical Broncos in the game.

Former quarterback John Elway and tight end Shannon Sharpe will be among the “legends” featured in the game this year.  Through new features such as Connected Careers and Canton Greats, you can play as the legendary Broncos.

With training camp less than a month away, the Denver Broncos still have several contracts to get done.

The team has $10.87 million in cap space, according to PFT, and three players remain un-signed.  Disgruntled kicker Matt Prater, rookie quarterback Brock Osweiler and running back Ronnie Hillman are negotiating multiple-year deals with the club.

Prater is seeking a five-year deal worth more than $3 million annually.  The league’s highest paid kicker, Oakland’s Sebastian Janikowski, makes $4 million a season.

Last week, reports surfaced that the Broncos and Prater were “not far apart” in contract negotiations.  The reality of the situation is that Prater is willing to — and may — holdout into training camp, which opens on July 26th.

Update (6/24/12, 4:28 p.m.):  According to reports, Denver never offered Tomlinson a contract, his agent merely contacted the team.  That makes one wonder, did Tomlinson ultimately decide he couldn’t see himself in orange, or did the Broncos make the decision for him?

LaDainian Tomlinson, a future Hall of Fame running back who scored 132 points against the Denver Broncos during a ten-year career, retired a San Diego Charger five days ago without a Super Bowl ring.

In hopes of getting a ring, Tomlinson considered signing with one team — just one — during the weeks leading up to his retirement.

“The only team I really gave a thought to was the Broncos, because of Peyton,” Tomlinson told UTSD’s Kevin Acee on Saturday, referring of course to quarterback Peyton Manning, who signed with Denver earlier in the offseason.

D.J. Williams catches a pass during drills in mini camp. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski)

D.J. Williams is up a certain creek without a paddle.

There’s no indication whether the substance in the creek was human in nature.

Williams’ lawsuit against the NFL was dismissed today, PFT reports, a lawsuit made in response to the league’s six-game suspension against Williams for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Williams’ case centers around the fact that the league claims he submitted “non-human” urine in a steroids test.

Judge Christine M. Arguello dismissed the case today, granting the NFL’s motion for summary judgment.

Peter Ginsberg, who represents Williams, tells PFT that Judge Arguello deferred to the NFL’s in-house review process, explaining that she has no authority to substitute her judgment for the judgment of NFL executive Harold Henderson, who handled the internal appeal. Ginsberg said that Judge Arguello also noted that Williams had received a full and fair hearing.

Former Bronco Ryan McBean was also suspended six games and sued the NFL, but he settled for a three-game suspension instead of moving forward with his case. Williams’ representation indicated they may still appeal this decision in the report.

Williams has already lost his internal appeal and this lawsuit, so a further appeal to the lawsuit appears to be his last shot. And a long one at that.

It’s been over three months since the NFL and Nike unveiled new uniforms for every team in the NFL.  At the time, it seemed like a big hubbub about nothing, with only a few minor changes to the Denver Broncos uniform design.

In April, we noted that the shade of orange had changed and the (oft-criticized) Flywire collar design was a new look, as well.  The size of the shoulder pad numbers appear to be considerably smaller, too.

EA Sports recently released an image of running back Willis McGahee seen in the Madden NFL 13 video game.  In the picture, McGahee’s No. 23 on his shoulder pad looked much smaller than it appeared last season.  I thought this was just a funny angle or a glitch by EA and didn’t give it a second thought.
