The Denver Broncos‘ third loss didn’t come against an AFC powerhouse, and it didn’t come against a team renowned for its dominating physical style. But the manner in which they lost was the same.

In the second half, the Broncos were out-executed defensively while being wholly ineffective offensively, and the Broncos dropped to 6-3 after their 24-17 loss to the Washington Redskins Sunday.

Quarterback Kyle Orton‘s injury to end the first half was largely the difference, as Denver’s starting quarterback went 11/18 for 193 yards and two touchdowns while backup Chris Simms went 3/13 for 13 yards and one interception. The Broncos were shutout in the second half.

This one’s tough to swallow. Can the Broncos bounce back from this? Keep it clean and dish it out in the comments.

funny observation Brett kern 6-0 mitch berger 0-3 i wouldnt point this out except for the aweful punting yeah kerns where low and long and he didnt have touch but a long kick made a change in field position and every game berger has played he has had atleast one bad punt

Now I have to hear all my Charger friends yuck it up about another Denver tailspin. If we don’t shut them up this week it will never end.

Gary……did you not watch the game yesterday? Two long balls to Marshall for TD's and one to Royal that would've been a third score if it wouldn't have been a bit overthrown. They really opened the field up yesterday. More than they have all year. What game were you watching? Not the same one I was.

  • jbirchbronco

    T-Money,

I totally agree with you. So what if the ball was a little underthrown. Has NMBronc stated, “The balls were behind the receiver and would have been picked if the receiver was even remotely covered.” Guess what NMBronc the receiver wasn't remotely covered and the balls weren't picked. They went for FREAKIN' TD's. I don't know when all you so called Orton Haters are going to give it a break. Orton is who he is, but I'll tell you one thing, I'd take a 17 pt. first half over a Simms atrocious 0 pt. second half anyday. All of you so called Broncos fans that are and have been calling for Simms/Brandstater since the beginning of the year are crazy in the head. If the 2nd half didn't prove anything to you yesterday, then I don't know what will. Orton gives us the best chance to win. Even though he's a statue and can't throw the deep ball, I'd take him anyday over Simms/Brandstater. He gives us the best chance to win.

Get pass the first couple of round??? Broncos will not beat out San Diego for the division. They will not be a wild card. So, Gary and fans: Sorry-No playoffs

I love the passion guys, but you're digressing.

So if I do not have a Man-Crush on Orton, I am not a fan? Nice try at the passive aggressive. You two need to seperate your love of Orton with your love of the Broncos. You see Orton as our best chance to win, understood. I do not see Orton in the same light.

Unlike you, I do not believe Orton is the answer at QB. Not tomorrow, not ever. I believe he could take us to 10-6 or 9-7, although after losing to the Redskins my faith is diminishing. This team's potential is significantly diminished with Orton at the helm. I do not believe he can win in the playoffs. This lack of faith makes me curious to see what Stater can do.

I stated bring on the Brandstater era. I did so because Orton will be out next week and Simms is aweful. Give Stater a week of practice and see what he can do for a game or two. What is the worst that can happen, we lose like we have been for the past month? If he is aweful, then you go back to Orton when he is healthy, FIRE all of them and retool in the offseason.

They can cut Simms today as far I'm concerned. That was a horrible performance and the defense stunk it up good too. Living in chargerland is a nightmare come true today! The only bright side to all of this… I can't see anymore of a QB controversy concerning Orton for the rest of the season.

I have to know….what university did Kerry go to?

  • TheTroglodyte

Northern Colorado University. It's a good school just not much of a football program. They finished 1 – 7 this year in the Big Sky Conference. http://www.bigskyconf.com/sport.asp?path=footba

I have to admit Orton was good yesterday. I didn't know he had the long ball in him. Simms on the other hand looked terrible. The Broncs were driving with short passes and nice runs and he throws it up to Marshall for a pick. There was no reason to take that chance. After this series it was all down hill. A good backup should be ready to go and he did not look ready. Easy to say but Bandstater seems to be the more ready of the two.
There is no way the Broncos should have lost the game. The fake field goal coverage was abysmal. The receiver was wide open. The special teams have been terrible the last three weeks and not great the first 6 weeks.
Time for a statement game against San Diego. Bring the attitude defense!

  • robross

The Broncos and their fans are breaking out in cold sweats. Another year, another division title slipping away. This team needs more character. Brandon Marshall is an extemely talented baby, just like Jay Cutler was last year.
