There won’t be any new highlights of LaDainian Tomlinson running past a slew of Denver Broncos defenders into the end zone. There are enough of those as is; Tomlinson made a career out of them.

The notorious Bronco-killer announced his retirement today, ending his career ceremoniously as a member of the San Diego Chargers.

After 13,684 rushing yards, 145 rushing touchdowns, 18,456 all-purpose yards, and 11 seasons as one of the NFL’s all-time best at his position, San Diego Chargers and New York Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson called it a career is a dignified press conference. The announcement was hosted by the Chargers, who wanted Tomlinson to retire as a Charger despite the fact that he had left the team in free agency and played his last two seasons for the Jets.

Peter King says L.T. is a shoo-in for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Now that he’s a Charger again (and forever), better he run toward that goal than another Broncos end zone.

Hated when we played him, but he was a classy guy and a great player. I have respect for him.

Thank God, I can finally stop pretending I hate the guy. It’s exhausting having to spend all those years faking my contempt for a player just because he had the misfortune of being a stupid Charger. Now I can confess: dude was a hell of a player and a joy to watch… except for the part where he was hurting my team.

    Classy?

The Ring will haunt him, but numbers along SHOULD make him a first ballot HOFer, especially given he played during an era where the words longevity and running back rarely went hand in hand.

    Indeed.

He was humble, sportsmanlike and just a cool dude.
