Sometimes, rookies have to learn the hard way.
On Thursday, Denver Broncos rookie cornerback Omar Bolden learned that turning his phone to silent—or off—is a wise move before entering a meeting.
“Lesson learned… Lol Damm!” Bolden posted on Instagram, a social networking site used for posting vintage style photos online, along with a picture of a $300 fine on Thursday afternoon.
The fine, signed by Head Coach John Fox, was pointed out to BroncoTalk by Sam Smith, a big Broncos fan who goes by @DenverBroncoSam on Twitter. Bolden’s phone apparently rang during a special teams meeting, which is a violation of Section 2 (ii) of the team’s Code of Conduct.
“There shall be no use of cell phones, and similar PDAs, iPads and the like pagers, or devices in meetings — maximum fine of $1,855,” read the fine issued to Bolden.
EA Sports is ready to roll out Madden NFL 13 next week (Aug. 28) for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Wii and Xbox 360. Â On Friday,they released complete player ratings for the video game.
The Denver Broncos were given an 85 overall team rating (first in AFC West and sixth overall in the AFC) with cornerback Champ Bailey ranked as the highest Bronco in the game (95).  Behind Bailey, quarterback Peyton Manning has the second highest rating (93), followed by outside linebacker Von Miller (89).
It feels like the Denver Broncos roster at many positions is crowded. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, because it either means we’re a very deep team or it means we’re a very average team. Â I hope its the former! [Denver Post]

Apparently, the Kansas City Chiefs have issues on defense. Â I’m not sure I buy any diagnosis during the preseason, since it might appear the Broncos have issues on defense too, if the starters weren’t going to be starting and playing most of the 60 minutes during the regular season. Speaking of smiles, Norv Turner is on the hot seat for the 47th straight season, or something like that. Â I hope he does just enough to keep from getting fired against this year – perhaps a 9-7 record and just barely missing the playoffs. Let’s review D.J. Williams‘ life since early March:
March 9: D.J. is suspended for six games after violating the league’s Substance Abuse Policy.
June 8: D.J. tweeted an image of a play from Denver’s playbook, causing a stir among fans and the media.
June 21: D.J.’s lawsuit against the league was dismissed.
July 12: Reports emerge that D.J. tried to cheat NFL urine tests three times.
August 6: D.J. is listed as a starter on the team’s first depth chart, but hasn’t participated in any team drills at training camp.
August 15: D.J. was found guilty of driving while ability impaired, which could result in additional discipline from the league.
That’s quite the summer of incidents for D.J., who has nobody but himself to blame for his troubles. But D.J. is somewhat understandably frustrated with the man disciplining him—NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

When it’s all said and done and Peyton hangs up his cleats—if he doesn’t go into acting—he would make a great cop.  On a different note, the thought of Eli getting a bikini wax is humorous, in part because of his stunning physique.

Star running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been holding out all summer in hopes of receiving a new contract from the Jacksonville Jaguars and is now willing to be traded, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. According to reports, several teams have already shown interest.
Though the Jaguars seem unlikely to trade MJD, who is willing to sit out the start of the regular season, the team’s owner, Shad Khan hinted otherwise on Tuesday.
“Train is leaving the station. Run, get on it,” Khan said, backing up the team’s hard-line position against a new contract for Jones-Drew.
In the wake of fellow star running backs such as Arian Foster, LeSean McCoy, Matt Forte and Ray Rice all getting large contract extensions during the offseason, Jones-Drew wants more than the $4.45 million Jacksonville owes him in 2012. At age 27 with minimal wear and tear on his tires after sharing the load with Fred Taylor early in his career, MJD would be a highly sought-after player if placed on the trading block.

Over the past two days, there has been positive injury reports coming out of Denver. Several Broncos have been returning to practice.
On Monday, safety Quinton Carter (hamstring), cornerback Tracy Porter (illness), rookie linebacker Danny Trevathan (ankle) and running back Ronnie Hillman (hamstring) were all back at practice. All four players have been competing for playing time—and in some cases, starting positions—in training camp and now the preseason.
Meanwhile, veteran linebacker Keith Brooking and safety Jim Leonhard are also on the mend. Leonhard was removed from the team’s physically unable to perform list on Tuesday and Brooking is expected to join him back on the practice field at the earliest sometime this week.
The Broncos are preparing for their Preseason Week 3 match-up against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, in which the starters are expected to get theirmost action of the preseason. Ultimately, the Broncos are hoping all of the players mentioned above are ready to go by Week 1 of the regular season, as are we.

Comparing Peyton Manning to Michael Jordonactually seemed apt to me, however, when I think of the greatest basketball player ever to live my instant thought is Jordan and when I think of the greatest football player ever to live about a dozen names flash through my head all at once. Stud: First Team Defensive Line Seahawks QB Matt Flynn was pressured a lot and the tackles resorted to a lot of holds to prevent sacks. Some of them even got called. Dumervil, Miller and Wolfe are looking to be a great combination. I can’t remember ever seeing a Broncos D-Line that good. — E. Halsey Miles
