Denver Broncos blog, news and rumors

Stories like these just reinforce our love for the Denver Broncos and their players.

Broncos defensive tackle Mitch Unrein walked into the club’s weight room for an offseason workout with new Strength and Conditioning Coach Luke Richesson when he discovered that his routine was going to change.

Unbeknownst to Unrein, Richesson was in the process of completely overhauling the team’s weight room, replacing nearly all of the old equipment with brand new machines.

That reminded the second-year player of another weight room that needed to be revamped.

Unrein had been planning a fundraiser to help improve the weight room at Eaton High School — his alma mater. He originally hoped to replace one piece of equipment each year, but with the timing of the Broncos’ redesign, a bigger opportunity presented itself.

And just like that, Eaton High School received entirely new equipment for its weight room, which it desperately needed.

It’s a great story that deserves your time.  Kudos to Denver and Unrein for giving these young athletes equipment to strengthen their bodies.

While talking with the team’s official website, Unrein also touched on the team’s new uniforms.  Click here to read the rest of this entry »

The Denver Broncos, NFL, and Nike unveiled the team’s new uniform for the 2012 season and beyond on Tuesday in New York, which drew mixed reactions.  No drastic changes were made to the design of Denver’s uniform, but the material is said to be “cutting edge” and lighter than the team’s 2011 uniform.

Most of the notable changes to the uniform are near the collar of the jersey (closer image here), with the jersey itself looking quite similar to the team’s 2011 orange alternate, as we predicted it would.  Fans have had a mixed reaction to the announcement, as some were expecting more drastic changes.

It should be noted that Nike never hyped up big ramifications to Denver’s uniform design, and those Photoshops that floated around the web were fake and Nike had no association with them.  Those flashy ‘Shops with white helmets and a mix of old-school looks and modern design gave fans false impressions of what the team’s new uniform would look like.

The team’s new look is a bit flashier than 2011’s design, and cornerback Champ Bailey likes them — you can’t argue with him!  According to Buffalo Bills safety George Wilson, the Seattle Seahawk’s new design was the overwhelming favorite among the players.  That may mean we’ll see more Oregon Duck-like uniforms down the road.

Nike is taking over as the NFL’s supplier of on-field and sideline apparel starting this month, a position Reebok had held for the past ten years.  The new jerseys will go on sale Thursday, April 26th — the first day of the 2012 NFL Draft.

What are your thoughts on Denver’s new uniform?  Were you expecting more changes?

The Washington Redskins made big news a couple of weeks ago by making an aggressive move to trade up to the second spot in the draft, presumably to take RG3. That trade is the first of a half-dozen or so, if history is any guide, which will affect the order of drafting in the first round. A new variable that could affect the number of first round trades is the introduction of the rookie salary cap.

This is an opinion piece of the writer and doesn’t necessarily reflect the feelings of BroncoTalk and/or the other writers on staff.

We’re now entering the heavy pre-draft season in the NFL world, and every site, blog, twitter account, and message board is talking about their favorite team’s draft plans.  That or creating mock drafts, or talking about past drafts and “biggest draft mistakes”.  That said, it’s time to move on from one of the most cliche, re-treaded stories used in football media.  The drafting of a one Maurice Clarrett by Mike Shanahan.

Wonder what I’m talking about?  Start by looking here, here, and especially here.  That third link?  Shutdown Corner’s 10 biggest draft busts of the last decade.  Notice something?  ♪One of these things is not like the other..♫

  1. Charles Rogers, Round 1, #2 Overall
  2. JaMarcus Russell, Round 1, #1 Overall
  3. Peter Warrick, Round 1, #4 Overall
  4. Reggie Bush, Round 1, #2 Overall (I’d argue this one as well, but lets save that for Saints/Dolphin talk)
  5. Matt Leinart, Round 1, #10 Overall
  6. Maurice Clarett, Round 3, #101 Overall
  7. LaVar Arrington, Round 1, #2 Overall
  8. Courtney Brown, Round 1, #1 Overall
  9. Robert Gallery, Round 1, #3 Overall
  10. Mike Williams, Round 1, #10 Overall

Tomorrow, the NFL and Nike will announce the Denver Broncos2012 uniforms.  On Monday, Nike and New Era debuted fan apparel and sideline gear for the 2012 season.

The team’s 2012 Draft Caps debuted on Shop.DenverBroncos and NFLShop.com on Monday, and 2012 fan apparel from Nike was also released.

There are a wide-range of No. 18 Peyton Manning t-shirts, new caps, Broncos t-shirts and performance shorts.  Two notable articles of clothing which debuted are these snazzy performance shorts and a Nike t-shirt which shows the team’s 2012 helmet design — with one noticeable change.

Since 1997, the stripe on Denver’s helmet has started in the back and dashed forward.  On Nike‘s t-shirt design, the helmet’s stripe starts in the front and goes back down the helmet.

This could just be a design glitch on the t-shirt or something that was overlooked.  We’ll find out tomorrow when the team’s new uniform is displayed for the first time in New York.

Stay tuned, the Denver Broncos’ 2012 uniform will be announced soon!  Are you excited about any possible changes?

So yesterday was about the most fun I’ve had as a writer in quite some time. Obviously BroncoTalk pretended to be a Raider blog all day, much to the chagrin of Raider fans.  Even some Broncos fans were annoyed, but in the end we enjoyed making fun of the biggest joke(land) of a franchise in the NFL, but it is good to get back to Broncos-centric news.
