Today’s GM is BroncoTalk’s very own, Jon Heath.

With the fifth overall pick in the 2012 Interactive Mock Draft, the Tampa Bay Bucs select…

5. Cleveland Browns Logo Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

Before the draft, Malcolm, Greg and I decided to draft the top player available on our board when we came on the clock, and we stuck to that commitment.  It was however one of the hardest decisions we have ever made.

Trent is going to come to Tampa and team up with LeGarrette Blount in our backfield to form, in our opinion, one of the best one-two punches in the NFL.  We have confidence in our offense moving forward with guys like Josh Freeman, Richardson, Blount and Vincent Jackson leading the charge.

On the defensive side of the ball, we are exciting about our defensive line with Gerald McCoy and Da’Quan Bowers coming back, and we will address the secondary in the second round.  We felt that Trent was too talented of a player to pass up on, so we stuck to our draft board.

Richardson is a complete back that has impressed us more than anyone else that was available when we were on the clock.  I’ve been an NFL G.M. for about five days, and I’ve never seen a back as talented as Richardson enter the draft.

    Eastie,

You seem like such a likable Guy most of the time.  You know how important the draft is to the future of the Bronco franchise, why do you insist on mocking the draft?  I don’t understand you sometimes!

All seriousness aside, David, enjoy the series.  Keep it up!

I like the pick.  I would love for Denver to make a move for him if we didn’t need a DT so bad.  I wonder if they keep Blount if they pick Richardson.  I know he is sometimes a headcase, but would think he could help here (Blount).

5 days of being a GM and Jon thinks he has seen it all.  I have nearly 14 days of GM experience under my belt Jon,  when you have been doing this as long as I have, you realize that backs like Richardson are not worth a top ten pick.  You should have taken Blackmon.

I was so torn because Richardson, Blackmon and Claiborne were all on the board.

Backs like AP are worth a top 10 and Richardson presents that kind of upside hard to tackle has good speed and is a proven runner on a pro style offense and no real injury concerns. I would have been torn between Richardson and Claiborn. Blackmon was ever an option here as Vjax and Mike Williams lock up 1 and 2 in tampa dont forget that Benn showed some flashes last year. The Bucks ranked 30th in the league in rushing last year and this was the move they needed to make.

I’m a Bama fan, love Richardson, and wish he wasn’t going pro…but there was no way I was taking a RB at 4.

Nice choice Jon… While not an AP he should prove to be quite useful for you guys.
