Denver Broncos blog, news and rumors

The Denver Broncos and kicker Matt Prater have agreed to terms on a four-year deal, ending his offseason-long “holdout” and ensuring the Broncos can rely on kicks like this through 2015:

Well done, Broncos. Now get those two rookies signed before camp.

This offseason, we’re doing a Speak Up series looking at each position (o-line, d-line, etc).  Today, we’re looking at the quarterbacks.

Last season, Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow were Denver’s Co-No. 2 QBs for the first half of the season. Who should be the No. 2 QB this season?

Returning:  Adam Weber.

Acquired:  Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiler and Caleb Hanie.

Manning will presumably be the starter this season, which leaves Weber, Osweiler and Hanie to compete for the remaining two spots.  Which one should be the No. 2 QB?

This offseason, we’re going to do a Speak Up series looking at each position (o-line, d-line, etc).  Today, we’re looking at the running backs.

We want to know who you think should be the main running backs in Denver this season.  Who will surprise, who won’t make the team?

Returning:  Lance Ball, Knowshon Moreno, Willis McGahee, Mario Fannin and Jeremiah Johnson.

Acquired:  Ronnie Hillman, Xavier Omon and Chris Gronkowski*.

*Gronkowski is listed as a RB on the team’s roster but he is expected to be a fullback in two-back formations this season.

Heading into training camp, McGahee and Hillman are the presumed top two running backs.  That leaves Moreno, Ball, Johnson, Fannin and Omon competing for two remaining spots.

Nobody in Denver is more excited about the arrival of quarterback Peyton Manning than third-year receivers Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker.

And for good reason.

Thomas caught 32 passes for 551 yards and four touchdowns last season while Decker hauled in 44 passes for 612 yards and eight touchdowns.  With Manning under center, those numbers are expected to jump in 2012.

“When you think about Peyton Manning in his career, when he started under center, he’s had a receiver in the Pro Bowl every year, with the exception of his rookie season,” former NFL running back Marshall Faulk said on NFL Network’s Total Access show Wednesday evening.  “He’s puts guys into the Pro Bowl.”

This offseason, we’re going to do a Speak Up series looking at each position (o-line, d-line, etc).  Today, we’re looking at the secondary.

We want to know what you think about the Denver Broncos secondary going into the 2012 season.  Should the young safeties play?  Who should be the No. 2 CB?

Returning:  CB Champ Bailey, S David Bruton, DB Rafael Bush, DB Chris Harris, S Quinton Carter, CB Joshua Moore, S Rahim Moore, CB Ramzee Robinson and CB Syd’Quan Thompson.

Acquired:  CB Omar Bolden, S Mike Adams, CB Drayton Florence, CB Tracy Porter, S Duke Ihenacho and CB Coryell Judie.

Heading into training camp, Bailey and Porter appear to be the top two corners with Florence, Harris and Bolden competing for a nickel spot.  At safety, Adams is a presumed starter with Moore and Carter competing to start across from him.

What’s your take?  Should Moore or Carter start at safety?  Should Bolden, Harris or Florence be the No. 3 cornerback?

Congratulations to Alex Sisti, who won the autographed 2012 Bowman Signatures Inside the Numbers Auto Relic Von Miller trading card pictured to the right.

Alex entered a contest we held on Monday and after his comment received the most likes, he was announced as the winner Friday afternoon.  Second (Colby Chad Mueller) and third (Eric Price) place commenters will each receive similar autographed cards (pictured here).

“I met Von’s mom at the Draft in NYC.  He is my favorite player and it would be great to have this card,” Alex commented Monday.  “If you want something corny; Fear of spiders is called arachnophobia, fear of tight spaces is called chlaustraphobia, fear of Von Miller is called logic.”

The comment above received 79 +1’s, which was enough to win the contest.  Colby’s comment, “Go Broncos! Von Miller is the Man,” received 45 +1’s, resulting in his second-place finish.

Eric’s third-place comment was my favorite, “Red Rover, Red Rover, please send anyone but Von Miller over!”  Eric received 14 +1’s, representing the third-most votes received.

The contest resulted in a few dozen more readers registering to comment on BroncoTalk, and we hope you all will stick around!  We will hold more weekly giveaways on our Facebook page, so be on the watch for those every Monday.

Expect to receive an email from us, Alex, Colby and Eric.  Well done, guys!

Free agent quarterback Donovan McNabb wants to return to the NFL in 2012, and he thinks there is a “80 to 90 percent” chance that he will.

“I do want to play,” McNabb told NBC SportsTalk on Thursday. “The most important thing is I have about three teams I’m looking at.  (I) won’t name those three teams.”

McNabb is considering playing for a Super Bowl contender in 2012, as was former running back LaDainian Tomlinson, before he retired two weeks ago.  Like Tomlinson, McNabb may have trouble finding mutual interest.

The Broncos never offered Tomlinson a contract and have “no interest in McNabb,” according to a source close to the team.  Denver currently has Adam Weber, rookie Brock Osweiler and Caleb Hanie behind starter Peyton Manning on the roster.

This offseason, we’re going to do a Speak Up series looking at each position (o-line, d-line, etc).  Today, we’re looking at the wide receivers.

We want to know who you think should be the main three wide receivers in Denver this season.  Should the team value veteran experience, or youthful potential?

Returning:  Matt Willis, Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas, Mark Dell, D’Andre Goodwin, Tyler Grisham and Greg Orton.

Acquired:  Andre Caldwell, Brandon Stokley, Eric Page, Gerell Robinson and Jason Hill.

Heading into training camp, Decker and Thomas are the presumed top two receivers on the roster.  That leaves ten other receivers fighting for three remaining positions.

The top candidates to land the No. 3 spot appear to be Caldwell, Willis and Hill with Stokley a slot option and Page a return specialist.  The team will have to make some hard decisions when they cut down to the final 54.

What’s your take?  Should an aging Stokley make the team over players like Dell, Goodwin, Orton and Hill?  Should Caldwell be the No. 3 receiver?

Dish out your thoughts in the comments and vote in the poll after the jump!
