Denver Broncos blog, news and rumors

We won’t have a Create-A-Caption this week (we’ll get back to that next Tuesday), but we do have this hilarious video of linebacker Wesley Woodyard impersonating safety Brian Dawkins from last year’s training camp.  Enjoy!

Denver Broncos

The BroncoTalk 2012 Fan-Interactive Mock Draft is nearing its end as we approach the real NFL draft on Thursday, April 26. Finally, at position #30, the Denver Broncos are on the clock.

The Denver Broncos were previously on the clock at their appropriate position of Pick 25; in our mock, the San Francisco 49ers traded up from 30 to 25, giving the Broncos their second and third round picks to do so. Now the Broncos pick 30th, or third to last, but have a pair of picks in both the second and third rounds to make up for it. Maybe they can even package those picks to move back into the first round…?

First thing’s first. Who’s out there for the Broncos (and GM gmunny33) to snatch? Let’s take a look. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

On Monday, Denver Broncos V.P. of Football Operations John Elway addressed the media to discuss the team’s draft plans.  In the press conference, Elway noted that the team does not view defensive tackle as a dire position of need.

“We don’t feel as bad about our tackles as everybody else does,” said Elway. “I think that we feel OK there and [DT] Ty Warren will be back coming off an injury and [DT Kevin] Vickerson is coming back and then we have some young guys in there where we feel like we’ll be OK. It’s not nearly the need in our minds that people think it is.”

Unless that’s a smokescreen and the team is planning on trading up to select one of the top defensive tackles in the draft, it sounds like the Broncos aren’t planning at drafting a DT in the first round.  Elway did say that the team would be open to trading up (or down) from pick No. 25 on Thursday.   Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Bobby Wagner

Friday, April 27th, is the second night of the 2012 NFL draft. The Denver Broncos currently own the rights to two picks that evening at #57 (round 2) and #88 (round 3). In previous pieces I have highlighted prospects at the running back (Lamar Miller, U of Miami/ Chris Polk, Wash) and defensive tackle (Kendall Reyes, Uconn/ Brandon Thompson, Clem), positions that could be of interest to the Broncos at selection #57. Here we will look at prospects at the other positions that could very well be draft candidates for the Denver Broncos come Friday night.

Bobby Wagner, LB, Utah State Aggie. 6’0″ 235lbs.

Bobby Wagner is a well-composed, present, versatile player and sensational athlete. Wagner can play all three linebacker positions in the 4-3. He rushes the passer well with his hand in the ground. He has fantastic awareness and closing speed to halt runners. At his pro day he displayed his elite speed by running 4.46 & 4.47 second 40 yard dash times. He also nailed out a 39.5″ vertical leap and 11’0″ broad jump. To add to his impressive resume he won Defensive MVP of the North team at the Senior Bowl with 7 tackles, one for loss, and an interception. If the Broncos miss out on Hightower in the first round they could seriously be considering Wagner in the second. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Denver Broncos safety Brian Dawkins announced his retirement from the NFL Monday morning. A player of his professional caliber does not leave the league unnoticed, but a person of his character retiring leaves the NFL wanting all the more.

The Broncos and coach John Fox released a statement Monday morning following the news that safety Brian Dawkins has decided to retire. That statement is below; check after the jump for reactions around the National Football League and the Twitterverse.

“Brian Dawkins is one of the best to ever play the game, a future Hall of Famer who changed the way his position is played. In many ways, he helped my job as a coach with his great leadership and preparation. He brought so much to the table and was such an enormous asset to our football team.

“His contributions go far beyond the wins, interceptions, sacks and Pro Bowls he accumulated during his career. Brian is the definition of class and is what you want in a leader. I know our players, coaches, fans and so many within the National Football League feel the same way.

“I competed against Brian for many years with the Giants and coached him once in the Pro Bowl, but to be around him every day for a season was truly special. I’m not sure there was a more respected guy in our building than Brian. He knows defense, he knows football and he knows what it takes to win. I’ve got the utmost admiration for him as both a player and person.

“It’s been an honor and a privilege to coach Brian. Although I will miss the positive impact he had on our team, I congratulate Brian on a tremendous career and wish him and his family all the best going forward.”  Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Did you just hear that? That was the sound of the collective “Nooooooooooo!” roaring out of Bronco Country.

After 16 seasons, Brian Dawkins has decided to retire.

Dawkins was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 1996 NFL Draft. Philadelphia would be home to Dawkins for 13 seasons until the Broncos signed him in free agency in 2009.

While in Denver, Dawkins played in 41 games, totaling 233 tackles, 5 sacks, 22 passes defended, 3 interceptions, and 4 forced fumbles.

Dawkins announced his retirement via Twitter, but 140 characters could not do the job.

The Lord has blessed me to play in the NFL for 16 years. I would like to thank the Eagles & the Broncos 4 believing In me. I would like 2 thank all my teammates & Coaches that I have been blessed 2 go to battle with. Along with u, the fans 4 helping make my career 1 that i have enjoyed tremendously. In other words. I am announcing my retirement from the NFL. #BBTB

Dawkins has been a force in the Denver secondary, and he will sorely be missed.

Tannehill not a lock for Dolphins or top 10 | Peter King
Michael Brockers is hot, Ryan Tannehill may not be.
