Did you just hear that? That was the sound of the collective “Nooooooooooo!” roaring out of Bronco Country.

After 16 seasons, Brian Dawkins has decided to retire.

Dawkins was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 1996 NFL Draft. Philadelphia would be home to Dawkins for 13 seasons until the Broncos signed him in free agency in 2009.

While in Denver, Dawkins played in 41 games, totaling 233 tackles, 5 sacks, 22 passes defended, 3 interceptions, and 4 forced fumbles.

Dawkins announced his retirement via Twitter, but 140 characters could not do the job.

The Lord has blessed me to play in the NFL for 16 years. I would like to thank the Eagles & the Broncos 4 believing In me. I would like 2 thank all my teammates & Coaches that I have been blessed 2 go to battle with. Along with u, the fans 4 helping make my career 1 that i have enjoyed tremendously. In other words. I am announcing my retirement from the NFL. #BBTB

Dawkins has been a force in the Denver secondary, and he will sorely be missed.

Brian Dawkins  is  a great human being, who was also a great football player.  He will be missed on the football field, but he will be a great addition to some other arena of life. God speed BDawk!

Put Dawk on the coaching staff immediately, he is a leader, classy and a great mentor for these young db’s.

Bdawk was a TRUE team player. He gave this league the type of attitude you’d teach your son tO appreciate and emmulate while he grows up playing peewee all through college. He had such an impact both on and off the field and the Denver team will miss him greatly. Best of luck Dawkins and I will now hang the jersey I have of you on my wall :-)
