The Denver Broncos headquarters will be buzzing on Wednesday.  The team’s second week of organized team activities will kick off at 10:05 (a.m.) and will be open to the media.

The practice session will last approximately an hour and a half and will mark the first day on the job for Cory Undlin, who was hired by the team on Tuesday as the new defensive quality control coach.  The position became vacant after Wayne Nunnely retired and Jay Rodgers was promoted to defensive line coach.

Undlin joins the Broncos after spending the previous three seasons as Jacksonville’s secondary coach under Broncos Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio.  Entering his ninth season in the league, Undlin has spent time with Jacksonville (2009-11), Cleveland (2005-08) and New England (2004).

To top it all off, Broncos defensive lineman and Air Force 1st Lt. Ben Garland will be officially sworn-in as a member of the 140th Wing of the Colorado Air National Guard at 2:00 (p.m.) by Brig. Gen. Trulan A. Eyre in front of the Denver Broncos’ Dove Valley facility.  Garland, who will be assigned to the 140th Wing of the Colorado Air National Guard as a public affairs officer, originally signed with the team in 2010 as a college free agent.

For fans, the action doesn’t stop there.  On Wednesday evening, two additional Broncos will be revealed in NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2012 list and Tim Lynch will be revealing the third-best defensive play in Denver Broncos history.

Wednesday may be just another day in the middle of the work week during a boring NFL offseason, but it will mark a busy day at Dove Valley.

Out with the old, in with the new, right?  The NFL’s arguably two most popular players are both playing for new teams this season, and their jerseys are NFLShop.com’s top-sellers.

That’s right, Peyton Manning‘s No. 18 Denver Broncos jersey is the best-selling jersey in the NFL, followed closely by Tim Tebow‘s No. 15 New York Jets jersey.  From April 1st through May 28th, no jersey was more popular than Manning’s orange jersey seen to the right.

The top-ten selling jerseys in the NFL, per the league’s public relations department, can be seen after the jump.   Click here to read the rest of this entry »

On Wednesday, two Denver Bronco players — one offensive and one defensive — will be ranked between 41-and-50 on NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2012, the network has confirmed.

The two players will represent the fourth and fifth Broncos to make the list (joining No. 98 Willis McGahee, No. 68 Elvis Dumervil and No. 52 Von Miller). That’s a big improvement from 2011, when cornerback Champ Bailey (No. 48) and wide receiver Brandon Lloyd (No. 58) were the sole players representing the team.

The network has not released names, but we speculate the two players will be Bailey and quarterback Peyton Manning (who was ranked second-best in 2011). Bailey’s ranking will likely be similar to his 2011 spot while Manning has fallen due to not playing last season.

But that’s just a guess.  The offensive player could be left tackle Ryan Clady — and Manning may be ranked in the Top 20, as many expect.  Ranking among fifty best players of 2012 (above No. 59 Jake Long, No. 67 Joe Staley and No. 82 Joe Thomas) seems to be unlikely for Clady, who is coming off a season in which he allowed a career-high nine sacks.

Wednesday’s show will air at 6:00 p.m. (MT) on NFL Network.  We’ll have coverage of all Bronco players that are ranked.

Steve Atwater Destroy Christian Okoye's Manhood

Once again we return to the early 1990’s for another huge moment in my adolescent fanhood of the Denver Broncos.  This one came in the regular season and helped ensure I would idolize Steve Atwater for the rest of his career. Naturally, we are talking about Atwater blowing up Kansas City Chiefs fullback, Christian “The Nigerian Nightmare” Okoye.

The play put Atwater on the map, since it occurred on Monday Night Football and the entire nation was watching.

So Peyton Manning says no to Dolphins, Broncos and Manning say no to Hard Knocks, and, like love-scorned phoenixes rising from the flames of heartbreak, the two find each other.

Don’t worry, HBO can’t be too sad. They will get to feature a first-time head coach, a rookie quarterback, and a three-way quarterback competition. Oh, and Lauren Tannehill.

Jokes aside, HBO and NFL Films always put out a fine product, and I can’t wait to see Hard Knocks back in action in 2012.

The Denver Broncos signed one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time as a free agent this offseason. For most teams, this would mean a spike in media coverage and fan interest like never before.

That’s not the case in Denver; the media circus at Dove Valley, while significant, is a shadow of what it was last year. The reason is simple: Tebowmania has left the building.

Sports Radio Interviews caputured wide receiver Eric Decker‘s recent appearance on  CJ and Kreckman on 102.3 The Ticket, where Decker, careful to show respect to his former teammate, admitted there is relief without Tim Tebow out there.

“Tebowmania — yeah, obviously he’s earned the right to have conversations about him. I guess at the same time, to be honest with you it is nice just to kind of focus back on football, and we talk football and there’s not — there’s still a lot of excitement here with the football,” Decker said. “I mean, he is a great teammate. I respect him greatly. But again, like you were saying, a lot of the focus right now is on football, is really talking about how we’re gonna form this team to win some ball games next year.”

Denver’s Dynamic Duo | DenverBroncos.com
When Von Miller first joined the Broncos following the 2011 NFL Draft, he said he wanted to play Robin to Elvis Dumervil’s Batman. The Broncos’ outside pass rushers took down their share of bad guys last year in the form of opposing quarterbacks, combining for 21 sacks on the season.

Broncos’ traffic jam at cornerback made Vaughn expendable | DP
Vaughn’s departure may be felt on special teams before it’s noticed in the secondary. He would have been one of the Broncos’ top kickoff returners this year.

As I sorted out my top Denver Broncos defensive plays it was rather easy at first, until I got to the fifth and final spot. My efforts were severely hampered by a lack of video of some of the plays I had on my short list.  I figured, heck with it, I’ll just pick my favorite defensive play from last season.  The play itself was significant within the game and it was an impressive individual effort by none other than the 2011 Rookie of the Year, Von Miller.  Click here to read the rest of this entry »

For the Denver Broncos, the 29-23 overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wildcard Round of the 2011 playoffs represented a week of euphoria, followed by an offseason with renewed resolve. The football culture in Denver became about championships again.

For the Steelers, it has meant nothing but anguish. Click here to read the rest of this entry »
