John Lynch held an impromptu press conference this afternoon, announcing that he and the Broncos have amicably agreed to part ways.
“I want to thank [Head Coach] Mike [Shanahan], [President and Chief Executive Officer] Pat Bowlen and the Broncos’ organization. The last four years here have been wonderful. As I told Mike, I only have one regret. When I came here I looked him in the eye and told him we were going to win a championship. We didn’t get that done, and I’m sorry for that. But I also looked him in the eye and said I gave him everything I could in terms of trying to do that.”
Thanks John, you were a wonderful player for the Broncos. On the field you may have had a lesser role, but off the field you’re irreplaceable.
(H/T Guru over at MHR for the video, I can only assume he’s the one behind the camera).
Denver radio station FM 104.3 The Fan threw plenty of Denver Broncos fans for a loop a few minutes ago. They began reporting that the NFL and Roger Goodell has handed WR Brandon Marshall a four-game suspension for violation of the league’s Player Conduct Policy.
They quickly began retracting their statements and are now saying he could receive up to a four-game suspension… which isn’t news in the least.
I got in touch with the Broncos, who were quick to give this simple statement that says it all:
“We have not been notified by the league on any discipline involving Brandon Marshall.”
The Broncos have been waiting for word from the Commissioner ever since Marshall met with Goodell in New York last week. Initial reports said that a decision could be expected by Friday or earlier.
Nothing to see here, folks. I’d focus on the John Lynch presser, set for 3:30 PM today.
The above video is a nice little career recap from the NFL Network for Zim entering the hall. I’ll bet this will be used for the yellow jacket ceremony.
Veteran center Tom Nalen will undergo an MRI on his left knee this afternoon, the Rocky Mountain News reports. The Broncos are calling it a precautionary measure as Nalen is still feeling pain in his bursa sac, the area just below the kneecap.
Nalen underwent knee surgery in early June, a procedure that was only supposed to keep him out for 2-3 weeks. The Broncos first held Nalen out of practice on Tuesday morning, saying it was a scheduled break to give him rest after his surgery. He has yet to see the field since.
DL Ebenezer Ekuban, who is making the surprising move from defensive end to defensive tackle, was also given the day off in attempts to keep him healthy after he tore his Achilles tendon last year.
I’m crossing my fingers it’s nothing. If Nalen has another procedure this close to the season, he could miss some valuable time.

John Lynch and the Denver Broncos have agreed to part ways. While it’s disappointing as fans to see a favorite player go, it’s an inevitable step in a 16-year NFL career. Had Lynch not asked for his release this year, he likely would have retired the next, so let’s discuss less what the future has in store for Lynch and more about where this news leaves the Broncos.
The Broncos have been preparing for this news, and had to know it was coming. If both Jonathan and I anticipated that this was a possible outcome of Lynch’s limited action this offseason, the Broncos front office surely did as well. On Saturday I previewed the defense for training camp and mentioned, “Did he come back to play a limited role?… If Lynch can’t go all-out, do the Broncos have room on the roster to keep the potential Hall of Famer?” Jonathan mentioned his concern only yesterday, saying “Watch closely folks, this might be John Lynch’s last training camp…. if Lynch thinks his playing time will be reduced this season he’s going to walk way.” We don’t pretend to be as smart as the guys who run the Denver Broncos front office. The writing’s been on the wall.
The Broncos are left with four safeties on the roster, the same number of guys they usually carry at the position from year to year. This year’s group of safeties is a mix of youth and veteran experience, although none compare to Lynch’s resume. Perhaps most alarming is the fact that only one of these safeties has any experience with the Denver Broncos defense – and he’s only started 8 games in it.

Before I introduce myself, I’d like to thank Kyle for allowing me to hop on board with the rest of the crew here at BroncoTalk. I hope I don’t disappoint any of you, and I will do my best to continue BroncoTalk’s run as the best source of Denver Broncos information on the web.
Some of you may know me or remember my name. I’m the author and owner of The Beat, a Denver Broncos blog that has a focus on our beloved Broncos and the NFL Draft. There won’t be any need for Broncos Draft anymore, considering I’m bringing that focus and all of it’s content here to BroncoTalk. I’d like to thank all of you who supported me there, and I hope you will continue to support me here.
Nothing was better than reading the comments and getting e-mails from fans who appreciated my input and information regarding the Broncos and their draft possibilities. I promise you that will continue on BroncoTalk, so you can keep hoping for the best and expecting the best from me.
In the coming weeks, expect a few articles regarding a 2009 Draft Focus. This focus will break down and analyze the on-goings of training camp and the pre-season. Moreover, an analysis of our roster to spot it’s weaknesses and strengths in order to gauge what positions may be of interest to the Broncos heading into the 2009 NFL Draft.
There will be that and much more, I promise you. Sit tight for now, and enjoy the training camp tidbits. The BroncosTalk crew will have everything you need to know about the Broncos right here for years to come. Thank you for your time, and I’ll see you when I see you!

After four seasons, Denver Broncos defensive captain John Lynch is leaving the team, CBS4 reports. Lynch met with Head Coach Mike Shanahan Wednesday afternoon, and Shanahan gave Lynch permission to look for a new team, or retire and likely pursue broadcasting.
UPDATE: The Rocky Mountain News is reporting that the Broncos are expected to announce John Lynch’s release on Thursday. In other words no trade, no teary-eyed retirement.
After nearly hitting free agency in March, Lynch returned to the Broncos at the behest of Owner Pat Bowlen, who urged him to stay another season. Seeing less and less snaps in OTA’s and training camp, and none in the nickel or dime packages, Lynch has decided to look at other options for his future.
Now that the news (or buzz or whatnot) is out that Lynch is being released, and not traded/retiring, I have to say I’m fairly disappointed. Only if he lands somewhere and ends up a starter will I be happy for him. If he ends up a part-timer elsewhere he should have honored his contract and stuck with Denver.
Maybe it’s just sour grapes… I wanted him to retire a Bronco. Thanks for the memories, taking names, and being a leader, John. But if I see you staring across my team in Week 2 wearing a blue and gold jersey, I’ll be livid.
Brian Westbrook. Philadelphia Eagles running back. 5’8″, 200 lbs. 9,512 all-purpose yards in college, an all-time NCAA record. In six years in the NFL, Westbrook has acquired 9,002 all-purpose yards (rushing, receiving, and punt/kickoff returns).
Warrick Dunn. Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back. 5’9″, 180 lbs. 3,959 rushing yards stands as an FSU record, one of many Dunn still holds. In eleven years in the NFL, Dunn has acquired 14,548 all-purpose yards.
Anthony Alridge. Denver Broncos undrafted rookie running back. 5’9″, 185 lbs. 4,438 all-purpose yards in college, holding the University of Houston record for average yards per play with 9.4. Rushed for 10.1 yards per carry as a junior, leading the nation in that category.
The overall production in college doesn’t quite compare to Westbrook or Dunn, but Anthony “Quick 6” Alridge’s impressive production in limited work at Houston has earned him quite a buzz. His performance at Denver Broncos training camp has only increased that buzz – Alridge has looked very good in camp, breaking off long runs to the outside and burning defenders on several occasions.
