The 2010 NFL Draft begins this Thursday, April 22nd, and with several trades taking place in the last few weeks, the Denver Broncos‘ draft order continues to shift.

With that in mind, here is an updated list of the Broncos’ 2010 draft pick order. The Broncos had nine picks in the 2010 NFL draft.

In the midst of adding plenty of rookies to their roster and depth chart, the Denver Broncos tapped into free agency to fill an unmet need Saturday.

Former Dolphins, Cowboys and Jaguars linebacker Akin Adoyele, an unrestricted free agent, was signed by the Broncos and is expected to compete with linebacker Mario Haggan for one of the team’s two starting inside linebacker spots.

Ayodele (6’2″, 245) had 71 tackles in 15 starts for the Dolphins in 2009. He’s started in at least 11 games in every year of his career after his 2002 rookie season, and hasn’t missed a game his entire career.

The Broncos weren’t able to land a linebacker they wanted in the second or third round, so they went with Ayodele. Ayodele is known as a productive guy, a “Bill Parcells guy,” and I’ve always been a fan of the way he carries himself from hearing him on sports radio interviews. Solid depth pickup that will certainly push Haggan for starting reps.

On If he can step in right away at center

“I know that Coach (Josh) McDaniels and the Broncos organization drafted a couple other interior linemen. I think they are trying to create some competition, even with the guys that are already on the team. I think it will create some good, healthy competition.” Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Syd'quan Thompson Jammie Kirlew
Syd’quan Thompson and Jammie Kirlew

The Denver Broncos, not willing to risk losing a player or two they had targeted to the undrafted free agency sweepstakes, traded back into the seventh round of the 2010 NFL draft to select Cal cornerback Syd’quan Thompson (225th overall) and Indiana DE/OLB Jammie Kirlew (232nd overall).

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers received the Broncos’ 2011 fifth round draft pick in exchange for the two seventh rounders.

Thompson (5’9″, 186 lbs.) ran a very disappointing 40-time for his size (4.7) that saw his draft stock plummet. Some scouts had even considered him a potential first-round draft pick heading into the 2009 season. Thompson has some return skills and may compete in that area.

Kirlew (6’1″, 260 lbs.) is a ‘tweener prospect that may not have the size to play on the defensive front of the Broncos’ 3-4 defense but may lack the speed and athleticism to excel as a linebacker right away. Scouts aren’t sure Kirlew has the raw physical toolset to make it in the NFL, but for what he lacks in measurables he makes up for in work ethic, intelligence, and determination — hence, a prototypical Josh McDaniels draft choice.

Both will have to impress in camp to make the roster as they’re entering areas of heavy roster competition. These picks conclude the Broncos’ 2010 NFL Draft.

Eric Olsen

The Denver Broncos select Notre Dame center Eric Olsen in the 6th round (183rd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Olsen (6’4″, 306 lbs.) brings impressive physical tools and measurables to the Broncos’ center competition, including 35 bench press reps at the combine (fifth-best among all combine attendees and third-best among offensive linemen). He started at guard for the Irish in 2007 and 2008 and was Notre Dame’s starting center in 2009.

The Broncos earlier drafted C J.D. Walton in the third round.

Some concerns about his speed and leverage, but this guy is a beast. Good pickup. Broncos leave the draft with good competition at center and guard.

PerrishCoxWithout a pick in the 4th round, the Denver Broncos finally went defense on the third day of the draft picking Perrish Cox (5’11”, 195 lbs.) out of Oklahoma State with the 137th overall pick.

Cox is regarded as one of the premiere return specialists in this years draft, but fell on draft boards after being suspended from the Cotton Bowl for violating team rules. He was also not invited to Oklahoma State’s pro day for this same reason.

There’s something going on in Denver and it’s not what you think.

Last offseason Josh McDaniels famously said that the Denver Broncos would do things on offense that had never been done before. A Brandon Marshall reception record is not necessarily what I think McDaniels was talking about though.

I think that he was putting together the puzzle, but the pieces weren’t fitting. The Broncos did the best they could with what they had in 2009; eventually the NFL figured it out and swarmed like sharks once they saw the blood dripping in the water.

Tim Tebow or William Wallace? Tebow cries FREEDOM!

Tim Tebow or William Wallace? Tebow cries FREEDOM!

Just a day removed from the first round of the NFL Draft, something’s up.

McDaniels and Brian Xanders played the first round like a violin, finesse leading to a full on barrage that ended in a beautiful concerto. And in the end Denver ended up better than it was at the beginning of the day, a replacement for Marshall and a quarterback for the future at last.

I don’t blame Denver fans that aren’t over the top for the pick of Tim Tebow, Bronco fans have been here before: Tommy Maddox was brought on to replace John Elway, Brian Griese was brought in for the same reason, Jay Cutler to replace Jake Plummer and Tom Brandstater to replace Kyle Orton. Tim Tebow probably had no idea that the NFL Combine interview process was over when he walked into Denver’s 104.3 The Fan and Dmac and former Bronco turned radio personality Alfred Williams.

Big Al and Dmac grilled Tebow and when I say grilled, he grilled him.

Tebow kept it moving though and seemed to let the questions slide off of him as well as he could.

Dmac even brought up James Dobson of  Focus On The Family in regards to the Super Bowl Ad as well as Tebow’s assumed overtness in pronouncing his faith towards others and Tebow even had an answer for that.

Tebow wasn’t selling wolf tickets though, when Al brought up beating Philipp Rivers and putting the San Diego Chargers in the number two slot in the AFC West, Tebow kept it classy and said that he’d need to learn the system first.

Be sure to check out the entire interview here.

It’s good to see the young man have such poise (despite the fact that he always seems to be running out of breath), he’ll face much worse than this for the way he’s chose to life his life. I have more respect upon hearing this and seeing the way that he handled it though. What do you think Nation, better or worse after listening to the interview?

Eric DeckerOn His foot injury and when he will be ready to take the field

“I had my second surgery to get my hardware removed. I started jogging about three weeks ago, progressing very well… My hope is by June I’ll be running. If nothing else, making cuts, probably not a lot of contact stuff. Definitely by July, I’ll be ready to go. Full go, no restrictions.” Click here to read the rest of this entry »
