Former Philadelphia Eagles great Brian Westbrook is scheduled to visit the Denver Broncos on Thursday.

The running back visited former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan in Washington, D.C. yesterday. Though it looks like that was more of a visit out of courtesy as Westbrook was scheduled to appear with Redskins general manager Dan Snyder at an NFL High School charity event.

The news broke via Adam Schefter on Twitter, who stated that the Redskins do in fact have interest, as do the St. Louis Rams. He expressed Denver was being, “Serious.”

Although the Broncos are a bit full in the backfield at the moment with sophomore Knowshon Moreno, former Eagle Correll Buckhalter, J.J. Arrington and Lance Ball currently on the roster amongst others. Westbrook would fit right in with his former teammates (Buckhalter and Brian Dawkins) given Josh McDaniels apparent love for all things former Eagles (and with good reason).

The thing we sports writers often forget about amongst our respected opinions and adoring fans is that we have neither…

And I’m not even a sports writer, I’m a sports blogger. That means you’ll drink with me, but only if I’m buying. Shout out to the seventy of you who join me during the game every Sunday!

Trade Kyle Orton? For what? A sixth or a seventh round in 2011? If we could be so lucky, Donovan McNabb was worth a third and a bag of chips. Orton was a consultation prize along with two first round picks, a year later we ended up with Brady Quinn anyway and Jason Campbell’s in Dante’s sixth ring of the hell often referred to as Oakland. I still think we should have gunned for Adrian Peterson in Minnesota; then we’d have shot out two birds with one stone. And one less Bus Cook client in the NFL, shout out to Tony Schefler.

So, here’s my opinion and it’s not worth much, Quinn may be better than Orton, but Tim Tebow’s not (at least right now). Chris Simms and Tom Brandstater both looked prolific in the 2009 preseason with Josh McDaniels calling the plays. We all saw what Simms did in the regular season and as incredible as that was, remember how horrific Orton looked in the preseason? It was the NFL’s equivalent of a sacrifice bunt. McDaniels threw Orton out to the wolves and the wolves were hungry. Orton learned a lesson and the Broncos went six and zero because of it.

You want my early prediction quarterback wise? Orton stays, Quinn stays, Brandstater stays. Tebow, of course stays. Orton plays the season, Quinn and Tebow may replace him, but either way Quinn is on the roster in 2011 just in case Tebow messes up. Tebow takes over in 2011.

Now that’s how I feel, yes it’s ludicrous for Denver to keep four quarterbacks on the team, but if one of those quarterbacks is Tebow and you’ve been paying attention to me at all… Then you’ll see why Denver would be willing to.

Wow, great video credit to EDeChellis27 on Youtube

Came across this little ditty on my iPad, just kidding, iPads aren’t cool enough to see this. Shout out the HTML 5.0 and all mine.

In all seriousness though, this will both bring you down, way down and then back up again. There’s much that has been forgotten about Denver Broncos 2009 season. Correll Buckhalter anyone?

Jerry Jones moves a player on the Cowboys draft board.

Jerry Jones moves a player on the Cowboys draft board.

Think Tim Tebow was a reach in the first round?

So do the Dallas Cowboys.

Several nutty Cowboys fans have pieced together what has been confirmed to be the actual Dallas draft board. The list was pieced together through several available photos that were taken inside the Dallas war room.

Dallas owner Jerry Jones gave unprecedented access to the war room and some interested Cowboys fans have pieced together a list of where Dallas ranked each player in the first several rounds.

According to the Dallas board they believed that Dez Bryant was likely going to the Denver Broncos at number 11 and had the same rank on him. A deeper look shows that even the Broncos first, first round pick, wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was a reach in their opinion… They had him graded as the second overall pick in the second round, presumably going to the Detroit Lions.

Tebow, nowhere on their board at all…

The only other Broncos player on their draft board: Eric Decker (WR, 3rd, 15th).

Denver Broncos nose tackle Ronald Fields was arrested over the weekend in Houston for allegedly carrying a weapon (a misdemeanor charge) according to The Denver Post (citing multiple television reports).

Fields came to Denver via the San Francisco 49ers and former Broncos defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, he was quickly replaced as the starting nose tackle this off-season by former Baltimore Ravens defensive end Justin Bannan and finally by former San Diego Chargers great nose tackle Jamal Williams.

Coach Josh McDaniels will not comment on the news, but the Broncos acknowledged Saturday that they are aware of the charge. Houston police will not have an official statement until later today.

It is not known now what the Broncos move will be in regards to Fields, Fields started 16 games for the Broncos last season as they began their effort to transition to a full 3-4 defense.

UPDATE (5/11/10 – 12:23 EST) – Fields will face sentencing Friday in Houston. The NFL will not release comment until the investigation is complete. The Denver Post says that the vehicle Fields was in was flagged down by another drier who says that they saw Fields waving the gun inside of a white mercedes benz.

This would be his first violation, though he could still be suspended as possession of a fire arm falls under the offenses that are punishable under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Fields was mentioned by McDaniels recently this off-season as being amongst the great back-ups the Broncos currently employ. This charge is of course part of a larger problem within the NFL, that being that some players feel forced to protect themselves. Seeing themselves as targets, with a large bounty on their chests. We wish Fields the best through these times and hope to see him in a Broncos uniform this season.

With the looming absence of Ryan Clady, the Denver Broncos today signed veteran free agent offensive tackle Maurice Williams who is a tenth-year veteran. Williams spent his previous nine seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars where he made one hundred career starts.

To make room for Williams (and possibly another signing) Denver released rookie safety Marcellus Bowman and rookie guard Michael Shumard whom the Broncos had added just after the draft.

I’d say look for Ryan Harris to push over to left tackle and Williams to take over the right side. At least if Clady’s progress slows for whatever reason. Either way this signing shouldn’t stress anyone too much, Harris is an injury concern at right tackle and Williams adds a lot of depth and reassurance. Fans will remember when Harris went down last season what happened (the Broncos record was 7-2 with Harris starting).

BroncoTalk Family,
It’s been a while, indeed. Feels like it’s been, say, 4 months exactly or so since we’ve last talked.
I’ve been on a Broncos sabbatical. A cleansing of sorts. Removing many of last seasons toxins from my body. Yearning for a rebirth, I stepped away from the madness with this mantra in mind: Only come back to the world of mania when I’m truly ready, and not a moment before.

It has been so long I had forgotten my BT password.

Which, by the way, does anyone else find it difficult to remember every single password required by every single website that one would frequent? I spend more time visiting Forgot Your Password? pages than I do on the actual sites. Just me?

Upon retrieving my login password, I found the single post I attempted during my vacation. Aptly titled Now What?, it was written and left to rot on January, 25th 2010. The last paragraph read as follows:

We get to torture and tease ourselves with what if’s and mock drafts. Fully loading every scouting report and insider tidbit. We get to wade through multitudes of Tebow conversations and columns. All telling us the same thing…he can’t play QB in the NFL, but wouldn’t it be exciting to take the risk?

    And yes, yes it would.

I found this and had myself a stupendous, holy shit moment.

Denver Broncos offensive tackle Ryan Clady (Christian Murdock/Colorado Springs Gazette)

Denver Broncos offensive tackle Ryan Clady (Christian Murdock/Colorado Springs Gazette)

The flight-footed 325-lb. man known as “Sweet Feet” is on crutches.

Denver Broncos Pro Bowl left tackle Ryan Clady, so nicknamed by his teammates after they first witnessed his impressive athleticism in mini-camp as a rookie in 2008, suffered a knee injury playing basketball this weekend and is expected to miss at least three months, per multiple reports. The injury puts the nimble lineman at risk of missing the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“It’s an unfortunate situation with Ryan,” head coach Josh McDaniels told the NFL Network Wednesday, “but we’re hopeful everything will be OK for the season.”

Clady suffered a partially torn left patellar tendon, Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports, and is expected to miss four months. Clady’s ability to participate in training camp or preseason is doubtful at this point. We’d wager its questionable at best for the first four weeks of the season.

Whether it’s protecting Kyle Orton‘s blind side or Tim Tebow‘s strong side, this is a big blow to the Broncos. Heal quickly, Ryan, the Broncos need you!

And keep your athletic gifts on the field and off the court.

*Update 4/27/10 12:18 a.m. (EST)

Thought the draft was over? Well, you’d be right.

That doesn’t mean that the search for undrafted talent is over, there was a feeding frenzy amongst several undrafted players. Players like Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount being snatched up seconds after the draft had ended by the San Francisco 49ers Tennessee Titans.

There’s always a diamond in the rough; just ask the undrafted Denver Broncos poster boys linebacker Wesley Woodyard or better yet, legendary wide receiver Rod Smith.

Currently there are an endless amount of prospects out there.

At least one being homegrown, Vic Lombardi of KCNC’s CBS4 is reporting that the Broncos are close to signing Colorado University tight end Riar Geer.

While West Viginia University Buzz is reporting via twitter that the Broncos have signed wide receiver Alric Arnett.

Finally a running back, Oklahoma’s Chris Brown via Ed Thompson of Scout.com’s twitter.

Young defensive tackle talent out of Mizzou Jaron Baston via coach Pinkel’s twitter account.

A whole lotta UDFA’s via here.

Confirmed signings via various sources:

  • WR – Alric Arnett (WVU)
  • RB – Chris Brown (Oklahoma)
  • DT – Jaron Baston (Missouri)
  • TE – Nathan Overbay (Eastern Washington)
  • TE – Michael Palmer (Clemson)
  • OT – Chris Marinelli (Stanford)
  • S – Marcellus Bowman (Boston College)
  • G – Michael Shumard (Texas A&M)
  • TE – Riar Geer (Colorado)
  • CB – Cassius Vaughn (Ole Miss)
  • RB – Toney Baker (NC State)
  • S – Kyle McCarthy (Notre Dame)
  • OLB – Kevin Alexander (Clemson)
  • WR – Patrick Honeycutt (Middle Tenn. State)
  • DE – Ben Garland (Air Force)
  • OL – Paul Duncan (Notre Dame)
  • ILB – Devin Bishop (California)
  • OLB/DE Korey Bosworth (UCLA)
  • DL – Jeff Stehle (Wisconsin)
  • WR – Landis Williams (Maine)

FINAL UPDATE: As of 4/27/2010 our list is complete and we added three more players and ruled out the signing of Michael Palmer (TE) from Clemson. [verified at the official site].

Also check out the official site link for bios on the players.

We will keep the list updated as the news flows in, meanwhile battle it out in the comments and let Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders know who they’re forgetting.
