Denver Broncos players and head coach Josh McDaniels discuss the team’s upcoming season opener in Jacksonville to take place Sunday, September 12, 2010.

Josh McDaniels

HEAD COACH JOSH McDANIELS

On the matchup between Broncos OL Ryan Clady and Jacksonville DE Aaron Kampman

“I would say it’s an important matchup. Kampman doesn’t show, to me, any signs of slowing down from what he has done in the last four or five years here. I think he has had as many sacks as guys like (Chicago DE Julius) Peppers here in the last four years. He’s a good pass rusher. He’s got a great motor, and it will be important for us to keep the blind side of our quarterback protected and also to do a good job on him in the running game because he’s disruptive there too. So, I think it will be very important for us to play well over there on the left side, and I know, obviously, he will be excited to play with a different team and everybody will be ready to go for the opener.” Click here to read the rest of this entry »

The Denver Broncos have announced their 2010 team captains (three defense, three offense, one special teams), with few surprises among those voted by their peers.

On defense, cornerback Champ Bailey, safety Brian Dawkins, and linebacker D.J. Williams were elected.

On offense, tight end Daniel Graham, guard Chris Kuper, and quarterback Kyle Orton were named.

Linebacker Wesley Woodyard rounds out the team captains as a specialist for the second straight year.

The Denver Broncos have joined the NFL in it’s effort to stop child obesity through it’s ‘Play 60′ campaign. “The Movement for an active generation” is their slogo, encouraging kids to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

It is a movement to be commended, as is Play 60’s latest event, “Back to Football Friday.”

“Back to Football Friday” is a campaign that combines the efforts of the United Way and NFL Play 60, which is the league’s initiative designed to get kids active through in-school, after-school and team-based programs. The campaign is in support of the NFL and its clubs’ commitment to youth health and wellness.

Not all position battles end in preseason and this is true in the Mile High City as well.

While some expected that it may be Kyle Orton’s whose position on the depth chart was in jeopardy at this point, the Denver Broncos find themselves in a bit of a less awkward position– deciding who will be there backup quarterback.

It seems neither Brady Quinn nor Tim Tebow was able to put any distance between each other on the way to the finish line. Quinn currently sits at number two on the Broncos depth chart, but that all can change as we’ve seen just over the last day.

The Broncos have been dropping second stringers like Brandon Marshall drops passes and the third stringers on this team have all been notified that they’ll be appearing this season on Dirty Jobs (that’s a joke).

We’re not going to name one right now. We’ve got guys we like, we’ve said that, and we’re going to continue to compete. Those two (Tebow and Quinn) are going to continue to compete and we’ll try to make the decision of what’s best on game day for our team, based on how we’re going to play the game. Josh McDaniels said today at his post practice press conference.

I predicted in August that Tebow would play in this game and I still think that way (hey, I’m 2 for 2 out of 10 so far…). This ‘will he?’ or ‘won’t he?’ is merely the chess game before; in a season when Denver’s going to need all the help they can get having a hometown crowd at more than one away game is definitely going to be an advantage for the Broncos.

INJURY UPDATE:
Ryan Clady, Knowshon Moreno, Demaryius Thomas, Daniel Graham and Andre Goodman all participated in practice.

Ryan Harris, Darcel McBath, Andre Brown and Lance Ball all sat out. Ball was out for personal reasons, not due to injury.

The Denver Broncos have added defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson formerly of the Tennessee Titans and more recently of the Seattle Seahawks.

Vickerson was part of the LenDale White deal that sent both players from Tennessee to Seattle in exchange for a fourth and a fifth round pick in the 2010 draft.

Vickerson was cut Sunday by the Seahawks.

UPDATE: Josina Anderson of Fox31 is reporting that her sources are saying the Broncos released Le Kevin Smith to make room for Vickerson.
