A couple of surprises in the Denver Broncos 2010 depth chart the team just released.

Offense:

Position First Second Third Other
Quarterback Kyle Orton Brady Quinn Tim Tebow
Full Back Spencer Larsen
Running Back Knowshon Moreno Correll Buckhalter Lance Ball Andre Brown
WR 1 Brandon Lloyd Demaryius Thomas
WR 2 Eddie Royal Eric Decker
WR 3 Jabar Gaffney Matthew Willis
Tight End Daniel Graham Dan Gronkowski Richard Quinn
Left Tackle Ryan Clady Chris Clark
Left Guard Stanley Daniels Russ Hochstein Eric Olsen
Center J.D. Walton Russ Hochstein
Right Guard Chris Kuper Russ Hochstein Zane Beadles
Right Tackle Ryan Harris Zane Beadles D’Anthony Batiste

Defense:

Position First Second Third
ROLB Jason Hunter Jarvis Moss
RDE Justin Bannan Le Kevin Smith
Nose Tackle Jamal Williams Ronald Fields Marcus Thomas
LDE Ryan McBean Marcus Thomas
LOLB Robert Ayers Jarvis Moss
RILB D.J. Williams Wesley Woodyard
LILB Mario Haggan Joe Mays
RCB Andre Goodman Nate Jones Cassius Vaughn
LCB Champ Bailey Perrish Cox Syd’Quan Thompson
Free Safety Brian Dawkins Darcel McBath
Strong Safety Ronaldo Hill David Bruton

Notes after the jump.

  • Stanley Daniels took over the starting left guard position for Zane Beadles who looks to be backing up (and possibly replacing the injured) Ryan Harris.
  • Jason Hunter surpassed Jarvis Moss as the starting right outside linebacker.
  • Recently signed Chris Clark is backing up Ryan Clady, not Ryan Harris. Not that it means much, but it does create opportunity for Beadles.
  • Dan Gronkowski (who was just signed yesterday) is already the second string tight end ahead of Richard Quinn.
  • The Broncos are extremely thin at outside linebacker (only three on the team). Mario Haggan can push over and played outside last season, D.J. Williams can also play outside and it may be a consideration the Broncos have to make if they’re not getting the push they want.
  • Brady Quinn remains the second string quarterback and Tim Tebow the third. This leads me to believe Josh McDaniels has something up his sleeve for Tebow.

What do you say guys, any surprises?

  • Geoffhull03

    David Bruton?

Whoops! Yes, he's on there, sorry. Back up at Strong Safety.

  • Alila

And the point of drafting Tim Tebow in the first round was… what, exactly? Since he's clearly not expected to contribute anything and is apparently more useless than Brady Quinn at this point, which is just sad.

Do you remember the surprise unveiling of the Wild Horses last year ring any bells to you? If you tell people you have a Trojan horse and then show them a picture or it, it's doesn't work.

  • anthony33

I am surprised Tebow is not the number 2 and a little surprised Moss was beaten out be someone who was in camp what, two weeks… okay, maybe not that surprised.

It will be interesting to see how (and if) they decide to use Tebow. Hopefully he will take meaningful reps in practice and continue his development. The kid is a winner.

McDaniels has always said don't put much stack in the depth chart. The league requires teams to put them out. Beadles may be a victim of his own talent and versatility. He would be the starter at guard without question if he wasn't so valuable every where else.

    Good analogy.

A lot of hmmms on this list…

  • Dan

I know the game is at Jacksonville, but Vegas has them as a 2 point favorite?! We are going to beat Jacksonville. Jones-Drew has a sore knee, and Kampmen just had knee surgery in December. It may be an ugly game, but I think the Broncos handle Jacksonville.

  • areferee

I was initially surprised by a couple of the moves on the Depth Chart, such as Daniels, Hunter-Moss and Gronkowski, until I remembered that it really has little to do with which players get the bulk of the playing time.

I think T-M is “on the money”…no pun intended. The Depth Chart may be intended as a gambit to mislead those that would use it as part of the game plan against us.

All you have to do is read denverbroncos.com occasionally to realize most of their postings care little about the average fan by providing complete and accurate information. This is why BroncoTalk is so important. Good and bad, we get the truth and the COMPLETE story without all the rah rah.

Have you not been watching preseason, or are you an idiot. There are only two choices.

  • SivNiz

Who's the number 1 WR? Lloyd or Gaffney?

  • areferee

Does it matter? Probably Gaffney if you asked McD, Lloyd if you asked Orton and Royal if you asked Eddie. In about 3-4 weeks or less, we'll ALL know, for sure.

Do we still have Stokley? Or did he get cut?

  • coskibum

He was put on IR but looks like he'll be waived shortly.

  • Jeff

    Thanks for the info Cos.

  • iskabibble

Is it really that hard to figure out?

Get rid of mcdaniels. He could win a game to save his life. He will trade tebow before seeing what he can do. Mc daniells is the reason for a losing season. Its not hard to defend against a team in which you know they are going to pass. Props to orton though since he has only 7 pics and a 85% pass playes called. Thanks mcdaniels for giving us a losing team. You suck! He couldent even win a game at madden

They need to paint that ugly horse at the Denver International Airport white and let the eyes shine orange and blue.  It has been a curse the way it is.  Help start the movement to change the scene so the Broncos can rise to the top again.
