I can’t apologize for last week, I was within three points of my predictions (I just attributed the points to the wrong teams, that’s all– a simple typo (similar to the one that brought Wall Street to its knees a few months back)).

The entire game I couldn’t stand the fact that we were running the ball, yes a balanced offense is a good offense, but a team that rushes so poorly and passes the ball incredibly well should probably pass the ball. Then I looked at our stat line, we ran the ball 13 times total. Really? That was a painful 13, I would have guessed somewhere around 30, not 13.

Kyle Orton only passed 38 times himself, completing 23 (his smallest number of completions this season), he still managed to pass for 314 yards. The Denver Broncos‘ offensive line also him upright, as the Baltimore Ravens defense only sacked Orton once.

A turnover and ten penalties for 90-plus yards ultimately negated any type of run Denver could have made at the Ravens.

So in the words of Alicia Keys new beau, Swizz Beatz, “On to the next one…” Click here to read the rest of this entry »

With five holes to fill on defense, the Denver Broncos have signed S Kyle McCarthy and OLB Kevin Alexander to the active roster from the team’s practice squad, Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post reports.

The team cut RB Andre Brown and OL D’Anthony Batiste to make room on the active roster. Batiste started at left tackle in Ryan Clady‘s absence throughout the preseason; Chris Clark now fills that role.

Andre Brown

The Denver Broncos have cut running back Andre Brown, reports the National Football Post.  The move is intended to be temporary and related to a roster move, according to the report (practice squad S Kyle McCarthy anybody?).  If Brown clears waivers the Broncos hope to bring him back next week.

It’s another sign pointing to the thought that Knowshon Moreno may be good to go tomorrow…. Josh McDaniels has mentioned the possibility of promoting someone from the practice squad to deal with the slew of defensive injuries, so look for someone to be promoted today.

We told you yesterday the best chance to see Knowshon Moreno on the field Sunday would be if he practices today, since that would make him a participant in practice for two days in a row.

Well, that just happened.

Moreno practiced Friday, along with Demaryius Thomas, who missed Thursday’s session.  We expect (speculate) Moreno will be listed as limited again, and probably questionable on the injury report (UPDATE: yes on both counts), but this is a much better sign that he’ll suit up Sunday than if he had not practiced.

The only five to not practice Friday were the five already ruled out — S Brian Dawkins, S Darcel McBath, LB Robert Ayers, LB Wesley Woodyard, and CB Andre Goodman.

The Denver Broncos just completed a hellish game in Baltimore.  If Vegas odds mean anything, they’re not out of the fire yet.

The New York Jets join the Ravens as co-favorites to win the Super Bowl at 7/1 odds this week, according to Bodog.com.  The Broncos will face the two best perceived teams in the NFL in back-to-back weeks.

“With the Packers losing this week the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets have taken over as the co-Super Bowl favorites at 7-1,” Bodog sportsbook manager Richard Gardner said. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Denver Broncos right tackle Ryan Harris returned to the starting lineup for the first time since injuring his ankle in the preseason last Sunday. His return might be short-lived.

The Broncos experimented with their offensive line formations at practice Thursday, with a healthy Harris splitting starting reps with Zane Beadles at right tackle while Russ Hochstein and Stanley Daniels took turns at left guard.

“They’re rotating in there right now, and we’ll see how that goes,” head coach Josh McDaniels said. “Competition has got to continue to try to make us better.”

McDaniels’ leaning on competition to settle the formation may seem like a good idea, but the Broncos’ starting lineup against Baltimore — from left to right, Ryan Clady, Hochstein, J.D. Walton, Chris Kuper, and Harris — was already their fourth different formation in five games. Might some of that depth chart upheaval be contributing to the Broncos’ struggles in run blocking and pass protection this season?  At some point the Broncos need to settle on a distinction between starter and backup, right?  Click here to read the rest of this entry »

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis (TSN.ca photo)

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis (TSN.ca photo)

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis and linebacker Calvin Pace will both travel to Denver when the Jets face the Broncos Sunday, but each player’s status to see the field remains uncertain.

“After talking to Darrelle and all that, we’re going to take him to Denver, one way or the other, because he wants to be with his team, whether he can play or not,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said. “And that’s where I want him, also. Hopefully he’ll be ready to play.”

Both Revis and Pace were limited in practice Thursday after not participating Wednesday.

If Revis can’t go, the Jets will lean more heavily on Antonio Cromartie, who did a good job blanketing Vikings wide receiver Randy Moss Monday night on all but one highlight-reel catch.

The Broncos don’t have a dedicated #1 WR, so the issue here isn’t who the Jets can shut down with Revis, it’s who they can’t.  With or without Revis, Kyle Orton has options.  So if Revis doesn’t play, it simply means Orton has one more on any given play.

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper has officially proclaimed the Broncos’ vs. Jets game as “Orange Sunday” — no, not because the Broncos’ injuries have them at red alert, but because Denver players will be donning their fan-favorite orange alternate jerseys. Fans are encouraged to wear orange, and attendees at INVESCO Field at Mile High will receive orange rally towels. The Jets don’t stand a chance.
