The Broncos front office has been quite busy interviewing and working out rookie quarterback prospects such as Jake Locker and Blaine Gabertt. John Elway himself has made it pretty clear that they’re always in franchise quarterback lookout mode. A lot of fans think it’s a smokescreen and some believe that Tim Tebow‘s days are numbered. Which one of them are you?

Oregon linebacker Casey Matthews is scheduled to visit the Denver Broncos next week, reports Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

The 6-foot-1, 232-pounder is a All-Pac 10 linebacker and the younger brother of Green Bay Packers star outside linebacker Clay Matthews. Casey is projected to go in the fourth round in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Meanwhile, University of Miami cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke worked out for the Broncos and the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday.

Van Dyke didn’t put up any flashy numbers during his collegiate career, but he did run the third-fastest time in the past decade at the NFL Combine (4.25).

With unimpressive size and strength yet incredible speed, Van Dyke is projected to be a late round selection in April.

Colts Broncos Football

Things didn't pan out as the Broncos hoped they would when they named Josh McDaniels Head Coach in January of 2009. (AP Photo/ Barry Gutierrez )

As we continue to relive the high moments of the Broncos 2010 season, we look back at the day all of Broncos Country rejoiced at the news of Josh McDaniels being fired.

December 6th, 2010, Denver Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels has been fired, team owner Pat Bowlen confirmed on Monday morning.

The news broke via the team’s official Twitter account (it was the first time in the history of the NFL that a team announced the firing of a Head Coach over social media.  See there, the Broncos were all into Twitter even before John Elway returned).

After a highly controversial tenure with the Broncos, McDaniels was finally cut loose.  Over the course of (almost) two seasons, McDaniels made several fan-angering trades and tarnished the team’s image in SpyGate II. His overall record in Denver was 11-17.

McDaniels has since landed with the St. Louis Rams as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, two positions that this blogger thinks fit McDaniels far better than a Head Coaching gig. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

As we continue to relive the high moments of the Broncos 2010 season, we look back at the Broncos third win of the year.

Heading into Week 10 of last season, the Kansas City Chiefs were 5-3 and atop the AFC West.  Meanwhile, the Denver Broncos were 2-6 and were expected to be trampled by Kansas City’s dominating rushing attack.  Unfortunately for the Chiefs, however, the Broncos didn’t get that memo.

Denver’s defense held the Chiefs running game to 51 rushing yards while the Broncos offense easily moved up and down the field.  Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton threw a career high four touchdown passes, and running back Knowshon Moreno had his first 100-yard rushing performance as the Broncos rolled over KC in a 49-29 win.

It was the Broncos second highest scoring game in team history (they scored 50 against San Diego in 1963) and second home win of the 2010 season.  Rookie quarterback Tim Tebow also threw his first touchdown pass of his career, a three yard pass to fullback Spencer Larsen.  Tebow added a rushing touchdown and was nominated for — and won — Rookie of the Week honors.

Denver linebackers Mario Haggan and Jason Hunter harassed Kansas City quarterback Matt Cassel all game, recording four combined sacks and a forced fumble that led to a Broncos score.

Might Marcell Dareus be Denver bound? (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

On Monday, NFL Networks’ Jason La Canfora reported that Alabama defensive tackle Marcell Dareus is scheduled to meet with the Denver Broncos sometime in the near future.

Dareus, a 6-foot-3, 319-pound defensive lineman, is considered by many the top defensive tackle prospect in this years draft.  With defensive tackle one of the (if not the) biggest needs on Denver’s roster, Dareus could very well be selected second overall by the Broncos.  That is, if he is available.  It would not be surprising if the Carolina Panthers — who own the first overall pick — go defensive in the first round, seeing as the team’s Head Coach, Ron Rivera, is the former defensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers.

If that is the scenario on draft day, the Broncos could go with Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley, who is also scheduled to visit with the team.  Other options include Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller, LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson, and Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers, who have all visited with Denver.

Although the team is expected draft a defensive player second overall, the Broncos are keeping their options open.

Kokura

The year was 1998 and the Denver Broncos were playing the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXII.  The game was one every fan watching from home would always remember, some for different reasons than others.  For one girl, the reason would be because it turned her life around.

Kaz Nagatsuka, a staff writer for The Japan Times published a phenomenal story on Monday morning, an excerpt of it can be read below:

After the game, Noriko Kokura was going to end her life.  But she stopped, because she found a ray of hope through the game of football.

Or more precisely, through a player.

While harboring that feeling (of taking her own life), she watched Super Bowl XXXII between the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers, sitting in front of a TV set along with her father, like they had done every year since she was in elementary school.

Kokura, then in her final year of junior high school, had an eye-opening experience.  She was intrigued by the Broncos’ ace running back, Terrell Davis. Her heart was moved to see Davis building such tight bonds with his teammates on the field.

“His game sent a ray of light into my heart,” Kokura said in an e-mail interview. “I’d seen so many games before, but I’d never seen a player believing in his teammates that much. And his teammates believed in him too.”  From that moment on, she abandoned the idea of killing herself.

As we continue to relive the high moments of the Broncos 2010 season, we look back at receiver Brandon Lloyd’s extraordinary 2010 season.

Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft, wide receiver Brandon Lloyd would go on to play for four different teams in a five year span.  When the Broncos signed Lloyd in 2009, he hadn’t started more than five games a season since 2006.  Never getting a legitimate chance to showcase his skills over a full season, Lloyd was not very well known among fans heading into last season.

In 2010, he would become a household name.

In week three against the Indianapolis Colts, Lloyd caught six passes for 169 yards and a score.  And that was just the beginning.  Over the course of the season, Lloyd would catch 77 passes for 1,448 yards (with an incredible 18.8 yards-per-catch average) and eleven touchdowns. Lance

As we continue to relive the high moments of the Broncos 2010 season, we look back at the road running back Lance Ball has traveled.

Entering the NFL in 2008 as an undrafted free agent, running back Lance Ball started his career with the St. Louis Rams.  After being released, he would go on spend time on the practice squads of the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans before signing with Denver.

When Denver running backs Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter went down with injuries during Training Camp, Lance Ball finally got his shot.  Because he knew he may not get many, Ball knew he had to take advantage of all his opportunities and impress Denver’s coaches.

And that’s just what he did.  Click here to read the rest of this entry »

As we continue to relive the high moments of the Broncos 2010 season, here is a short summary of their first win of the season:

After a discouraging season opener 17-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Denver Broncos returned home to face the Seattle Seahawks in week two.

The Broncos created the first turnover of the game when Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck threw an interception to cornerback Champ Bailey.  Before the final whistle blew, Hasselbeck went on to throw two more interceptions, courtesy of defensive backs Perrish Cox and Brian Dawkins.

The Broncos were not able to capitalize off Seattles’ first turnover however and were forced to punt a few plays after Bailey’s interception.  The Seahawks return man however muffed the punt and Denver recovered, at the thirteen yard line.  Three plays later, quarterback Kyle Orton found wide receiver Eddie Royal for a 13-yard score.  With just under four minutes to go in the first quarter, Denver was up by seven.
