With the 2012 draft complete, the Denver Broncos moved into the second phase of their 2012 offseason program Wednesday — organized workouts at the Broncos facility.

That’s right folks, we’re talking about practice. Almost.

And even though the Broncos are without pads and can’t even square off offense vs. defense at these workouts, it’s pretty damn exciting. Peyton Manning is in the building, people.

Until now, Manning has had to work offsite and without the involvement of any coaches employed by the Denver Broncos Football Club. Now, the free agent quarterback can work at Dove Valley and be monitored by said Broncos employees. He can throw in individualized drills to his wide receivers. Coaches can discuss plays and the playbook, and film work can begin.

tmz-junior-seau-getty-1969-2013

According to a report from TMZ.com, former San Diego Chargers and New England Patriots star, Junior Seau, was found dead of an apparent suicide. He played 20 seasons in the NFL and most believe will be worthy of Hall of Fame consideration at some point.  Certainly from his frustrating play against the Denver Broncos for most of those 20 years would be enough for that.

Seau leaves behind an ex-wife and three children.  BroncoTalk extends our condolences to those Seau has left behind.

Anthony Miller is a tight end known for his size and build. A sure-handed receiver, Miller left his first NCAA mark in the last play of his last game as a true freshman — he hauled in the game-winning touchdown for the Cal Bears against Miami in the 2008 Emerald Bowl. He’s shown flashes as a playmaker and a fierce blocker through the years but lacks consistency.

We know Eric Decker as a 6’3″, 218 pound wide receiver who caught 44 passes for 612 yards and eight touchdowns last season as a member of the Denver Broncos.  Had Decker chosen another career path — baseball — many of us would have never heard of him.

While attending Minnesota, Decker played both football and baseball and was actually drafted into the MLB — twice.  Decker was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008 and the Minnesota Twins in 2009, but opted to instead pursue a career in the NFL.

Decker went on to be drafted just once in the NFL, Denver taking him 87th overall in the 2010 draft.  On Sunday, Decker and quarterback Peyton Manning attended a Colorado Rockies game at Coors Field — as fans.

During batting practice before the game, Decker hit two home runs into the bullpen beyond right field, according to the Denver Post.  The Rockies went on to lose to the New York Mets by a score of 6-to-5.

“I thought he represented the Broncos well today,” Manning said on Sunday. “I’m pretty sure he’ll walk tall all week.”

Aren’t we fortunate that Decker chose football over baseball.  Though I’m sure he would have been a fine baseball player, he has the potential to be a star receiver in the NFL, especially now that Manning is at the helm in Denver.
