Want to plow Philip Rivers‘ helmet into the turf, or leave Troy Polamalu so torched on a long gain he’s left scratching his well-conditioned head? There’s an app for that.

The early 1990’s was a very impressionable time in my youth. In fact, the most memorable game of my life, excluding the Super Bowl victories, was the 1991 AFC Divisional Playoffs. The Denver Broncos needed a John Elway miracle to achieve victory over the Houston Oilers and was I not disappointed!

This play may rank higher on my list than someone less bias, but since I spent the time creating this list I get to decide how it plays out.  As a 13 year old boy, this fourth down conversion to set the Broncos up for victory was one of the most incredible sports moments of my life up until that point. There was no way it didn’t make my Top 5.

Denver Broncos News

Manning, Broncos coach McCoy a perfect match | NFL.com
Peyton Manning has a reputation as a control freak, so the first thing he told his new Denver Broncos coaches when it was time to go to work might surprise you. Truth is, it probably wasn’t wholly expected in Denver, either.

Age no obstacle as Broncos stockpile CBs to plug leaks | Denver Post
Age is just a number, but for those assembling defenses in the NFL, a higher number usually is not wanted at cornerback. Yet for the fifth consecutive season — since Champ Bailey turned the big 3-oh in 2008 — the Broncos will shove aside conventional wisdom in their secondary.

Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller, the reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year, was named the 52nd-best player in the NFL by NFL Network (NFLN) on Wednesday.  The Top 100 Players of 2012 has been airing on the network since April, revealing the top 100 players in the league, as voted by the players.

Miller is the third Bronco to make the list, joining defensive end Elvis Dumervil (68th) and running back Willis McGahee (98th).  Cornerback Champ Bailey and possibly quarterback Peyton Manning are also expected to make the cut, which would give Denver five players in the NFL’s Top 100.

This year, Miller is looking to improve on his 64 tackle, 11.5 sack season, who has become just the second Bronco in franchise history to be selected to the Pro Bowl as a rookie.  “(Von) has been working his butt off this offseason,” Dumervil informed the media after practice on Wednesday.  “I can’t wait to see the kind of jump he can (make in his second season).”   Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Adam Grant

Adam Grant

Name: Adam Grant
Pos: Tackle/Guard
Ht, Wt: 6’6″, 320
Age: 26
Exp: 1
College: Arizona

Adam Grant was the most prized of the Denver Broncos‘ undrafted rookies in 2011 heading into training camp… if you judge “prized-ness” by the signing bonus the Broncos initially dished out for the player (not the worst metric). Based on his junior and senior seasons at Arizona, you can hardly blame them — Grant earned second team All-Pac 10 honors at right tackle in 2010 before moving to left tackle his senior year and enjoying a “stellar season” on the offensive line’s most vital position. Short arms and marginal athleticism, along with a series of knee and hand injuries early in his collegiate career, dropped his draft stock, but the Broncos brought him to camp with the hopes of grooming him into an NFL offensive lineman, at one position or another.

UPDATE:  Shortly after this article was published, the club announced that Derek Wolfe has officially signed with the team.  He is the fourth draft pick of Denver’s 2012 draft class to sign.

On Monday, it was reported that defensive tackle Derek Wolfe had agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos.  As of Tuesday however, Wolfe had yet to officially sign the dotted line, per the team.

We expect the Broncos to announce Wolfe’s signing soon however, as his contract details have already been leaked.  Wolfe’s four-year deal is worth $5.206 million, according to Scout.com’s Aaron Wilson.

Denver’s first pick of the 2012 NFL Draft (36th overall), Wolfe will receive a $2.226 million bonus and guaranteed salaries of $390,000 and $480,000.  Per Wilson, Derek Wolfe is due a $146,672 roster bonus in 2013 and a $150,000 roster bonus in 2014.

Due to CBA rules, Wolfe cannot participate in organized team activities until his college class graduates (Wolfe’s soon-to-be alma mater, Cincinnati, completes its 2012 class on June 9).  Wolfe will be able to participate in the team’s first full-team mandatory mini camp, which runs June 12th-through-14th.

Wolfe (6-5, 295 lbs.) has been working on his own in Lisbon, Ohio (his home). “It stinks (not being in Denver),”  Wolfe said. “I like being around my teammates, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

tim-tebow

Tim Tebow after Demaryius Thomas takes his pass to the house to win the game in overtime. (AP)

It is nice to have a couple plays in my top 5 that are still fresh in our recent memories.  Tim Tebow may no longer be on the Denver Broncos roster, but there is little doubt in my mind that his pass to Demaryius Thomas in overtime back in January sent all of us screaming into the wind.

I am not ashamed to admit that I was disappointed when the Broncos traded Tebow, even though I understood why it was done.  I decided early on that I would celebrate his time with the Broncos and be proud of the success he brought our beleaguered franchise.  Lifting it up from the ashes that Josh McDaniels had wrought.

The 2011 season was almost as magical as the 1977 season and this play was its capstone.

The Denver Broncos yet again have a member of the Gronkowksi family.  On Wednesday, the Broncos acquired Indianapolis Colts fullback/tight end Chris Gronkowski in exchange for cornerback Cassius Vaughn, the team announced.

“We have a lot of depth in our secondary and this was an opportunity for us to add a quality fullback to our roster,” Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway explained.

Denver’s acquisitions of cornerbacks Tracy Porter, Drayton Florence and Omar Bolden during the offseason made Vaughn–who signed with the team in 2010 as an undrafted college free agent–an expendable defensive back.  Porter, Florence, Bolden and second-year corner Chris Harris will now compete for playing time across from Champ Bailey.

Gronkowski, the brother of Dan (Cleveland) and Rob (New England), hails from the Gronk family and originally signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2010 as an undrafted college free agent.  Last September, the Colts acquired Gronkowski off waivers.

Over the past two seasons, Gronkowski has played in 21 games (with seven starts) and rushed five times for 17 yards and caught seven passes for 35 yards and a score.  Gronkowski joins Austin Sylvester as the two fullbacks currently on Denver’s roster.

If Tom Brady has a Gronk then I guess it’s only fair that Peyton Manning gets a Gronk, too.
