Apparently Denver Broncos defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson has been busy — eating. He’s probably eating a gallon-size bowl of chili even as you read this.

The six-year veteran hopes to start for the Broncos in 2012, and to that end, he has upped his weight from 275 in October 2011 (when he was placed on Injured Reserve) to 324 at last week’s OTA’s — a 49 pound increase in seven months’ time.

Denver Broncos Super Bowl XXXII Ring

In the eyes of most Denver Broncos fans, John Elway and his helicopter leap in Super Bowl XXXII is the greatest offensive play in Broncos history.  The significance of that play is lost when the backdrop of 38 years of Broncos football up until that point.

From averaging less than four wins per season throughout the 1960’s, to losing 20 consecutive games to the hated Oakland Raiders during the same period. Then the long arduous rise from that embarrassing beginning to the explosive arrival to relevance during the 1977 season.   Click here to read the rest of this entry »

On Wednesday, the Denver Broncos traded cornerback Cassius Vaughn to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for fullback Chris Gronkowski. According to Mike Klis, it was the first trade executed by Matt Russell, the team’s new Director of Player Personnel.

That presumably means that Russell has essentially taken over duties which were held by former General Manager Brian Xanders, who the team parted ways with earlier in the month.  The Vaughn for Gronkowski trade was the first executed by Russell, but it likely won’t be the last.

Two players that should be traded before or during the 2012 season (the trade deadline has been moved to Week 8) are linebacker D.J. Williams and running back Knowshon Moreno.  If the Broncos do decide to move on from Williams and/or Moreno, a fifth or sixth round conditional selection would likely be the compensation.   Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Tebow practice struggles: What new? | First and Orange
And in his first offseason practice with the New York Jets, Tim Tebow during a 7-on-7 drill threw two interceptions in a three-play span.  (Note: Included in Daily Links so we can all say, “not our problem anymore!”)

Fannin intrigues Broncos with speed, receiving ability | Denver Post
Fannin was certainly one of the most intriguing rookies in last year’s training camp given he is big (5-foot-10 3/8, 231 pounds) and fast (he ran 4.37 hand-timed in the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine in 2011).

Denver Broncos Hold Organized Team Activities

It’s been awhile since we opened up the polls to something beside BT Profile Approval ratings, so with the first set of OTA’s behind us, let’s talk the Denver Broncos offseason.

I recently appeared as a guest on All Purpose Roto‘s podcast to talk Broncos, and took inventory of Denver’s offseason to prepare for the chat (that interview will air during their live show Monday; we’ll drop a link on Twitter and the subsequent Daily Links). Anyway, jotting down the results of the Broncos offseason got me wondering: we all know everyone’s favorite offseason move the Broncos made this offseason was signing Peyton Freaking Manning… what was your second favorite move?

Let’s break down the choices and dish it out in the poll and comments. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Super Bowl XXXII

The greatest sports moment of my life occurred on my oldest daughters birthday – January 25th. She wasn’t born yet, but the year was 1998 and the Denver Broncos were in the fight of their lives against the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXII. I was 19 years old and living a stones throw from Jack Murphy Stadium where my sports heroes were about to become part of NFL lore.

Up until this play I felt the Broncos were controlling the game, but failing to capitalize at key moments when they could have iced it. When John Elway took off on third down inside the red zone, I felt the anxiety of the riskiness of the move, since it was hardly third and short. When he dove and helicoptered for the first down I screamed my head off. That was the moment when I felt there was no way the Broncos could lose this game now – of course, the nail biting final 3 minutes of the game made that feeling seem prematurely absurd.  However, there was no denying the significance of this play and it would become the defining moment of Super Bowl XXXII and it was easy to put it number 1 on my all-time list.

(@BrockOsweiler)

Were you wondering what Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Brock Osweiler is doing this weekend?  He’s buying out an entire Bed Bath and Beyond store, that’s what.

Osweiler is moving into his new condo today and got some shopping done beforehand to pick up some household accessories.  All of those carts contain items purchased by Osweiler.

“Well I definitely contributed to Bed Bath and Beyond this morning ha,” Tweeted Osweiler.

On Thursday, Osweiler received his iPad playbook from the team and on Friday he admitted to having “ups and downs” during the first week of OTAs.

“I had some ups and downs but got better everyday.  I am looking forward to week two (of organized team activities)! Time to enjoy my weekend.”

Osweiler (6′-7″, 242 lbs.) was the Broncos second selection (57th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  He is one of three drafted rookies still un-signed, joining running back Ronnie Hillman and center Philip Blake.  The Broncos hope to have all three of the rookies under contract by June 14th (when mini camp concludes).

Osweiler probably received a nice bill for all of those purchases.  A four-year contract worth around $4 million would certainly help him pay for the goodies.

Lonie Paxton

Name: Lonie Paxton
Pos: Long Snapper
Ht, Wt: 6’2″, 270
Age: 34
Exp: 12
College: Sacramento State

Lonie Paxton has been the Denver Broncos‘ long snapper for three seasons, and has been virtually invisible during that time. For a long snapper, that’s the highest praise — if you’ve been noticed, it means you did something wrong.
