The Denver Broncos just altered their policy regarding the media’s use of mobile devices to send text and data updates from the practice field. Before, no mobile devices were allowed, and now they are (obviously, talking is still not permitted).

What does this mean for you, the awesome BroncoTalk reader? It means Twitter! We’ll be sending micro-updates to http://twitter.com/broncotalk in the middle of practice. Follow us there or along the right sidebar of the home page for the latest news delivered in 140 characters or less!

Kudos to the Broncos for adopting their policy and staying on the cutting edge. Can’t wait to put these new tools in action – starting right now!

Denver Broncos training camp… News and notes from the Tuesday practice.

Attendance Report

The most notable attendee at training camp today wasn’t Robert Ayers or Jarvis Moss (although both were in attendance)… it was referee Ed Hochuli. The controversial figure between Denver and San Diego fans is visiting the Broncos, along with the rest of his three-man crew, to ref scrimmages and discuss rule changes to the players and media. That should cause quite a stir over by the sea.

Meanwhile, Brandon Marshall was absent again, along with Mr. Holdout Knowshon Moreno. Nick Greisen was placed on IR, and the Broncos resigned LB Braxton Kelley from Kentucky to fill his roster spot. Nic Clemons is still missing time after being injured a few days back, but the fact that Clemons was injured long before Greisen and Clemons isn’t on IR is a good sign for the DT.

I’m going to talk about the defense first today, because everyone wants to hear about Robert Ayers and Jarvis Moss, and because, frankly, the defense was more exciting.

Defense

MVP: Jack Williams

Jack Mutha F’in Williams. What a day for 26. The 2008 4th round draft pick had an interception, a handful of batted-down balls, and another interception in the end zone during two-minute/eleven-on-eleven drills that he took 99 yards down the right sideline to the house. When I tell you it looked exactly like Champ Bailey‘s infamous interception against Tom Brady during the 2005 postseason, know I mean it. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Josh McDaniels met the media after practice Tuesday, as he does at least once each day. Amazingly, no one asked about Brandon Marshall. These press types are starting to get the hint. Here’s the audio (Trouble with the player? Download the audio here). I’ll add the full transcript as soon as it’s available.

GreisenJeff Legwold is reporting that Broncos inside linebacker Nick Greisen has torn his ACL at camp this morning initially thinking it was a cramp.  The team moved the eight year vet to IR shortly thereafter.   This was Greisen’s first season with the Broncos after time spent with Jacksonville, the New York Giants, and Baltimore.

An immediate replacement was signed, Braxton Kelley.  Kelley is a linebacker out of Kentucky who Denver previously released back on June 13th and had earned All American honors his Freshman season.  This will be the second time he will be reuinited with former teammate Wesley Woodyard.

Denver Broncos training camp… news and notes from the Monday afternoon session.

The weather was threatening but ultimately cooperated, and the Broncos continued their physical workouts Monday afternoon. They started with mental reps and formation work, followed by warm-ups and individual drills, and finished with team scrimmages (situational football).

Attendance Report

Brandon Marshall was again missing. Robert Ayers, although signed, did not participate per the Head Coach’s suggestion. Knowshon Moreno was of course absent, along with Daniel Graham, Casey Weigmann, Ryan Torain, and Nick Greisen. Brian Dawkins, Correll Buckhalter, Wesley Woodyard, and Brandon Stokley all returned to the field after missing the morning practice. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Mike Nolan

Defensive coordinator Mike Nolan has been on a gag order (his words) by Head Coach Josh McDaniels for months. He finally broke his silence to the media after practice Monday and discussed the new Denver Broncos defense.

Meanwhile, Robert Ayers didn’t dress for practice but met the media afterward; check out the audio for both of these defensive difference-makers below.

UPDATE: The Broncos made it official. Check the press release after the jump.

Word on the tweet (get it?) is that Robert Ayers‘ contract is a done deal. The 18th overall pick can now report to Denver Broncos training camp.

It’s reportedly a five-year deal. From Adam Schefter: “DE Robert Ayers deal now done with Denver. Time to move on to RB Knowshon Moreno…. Ayers deal is for five years. He needs to be good. Denver needs all the help it can get on its defensive line.”

You’re right, Adam, the defensive line does need help, but Ayers was seeing time at linebacker in mini-camp.

With Michael Crabtree and his agent throwing a wrench in the works, Knowshon may be a bit trickier to sign.

Now that the deal’s done, the only question remaining is if we’ll see the rookie out on the practice field this afternoon. Stay tuned!

UPDATE 3:10 pm: The Denver Post also tweeted, and say Ayers is expected to report this afternoon.

Robert Ayers

UPDATE: Robert Ayers and Broncos agree to terms.

Both Adam Schefter and his former employer are reporting that rookie linebacker Robert Ayers is very close to agreeing to terms with the Denver Broncos. If he signs soon enough, Ayers would be able to participate in afternoon practice beginning at 5:30.

No word on how close the Broncos and their other first-round holdout, Knowshon Moreno, are to a contract.
