Stink List: Pre-Season Week 1
Note: Stink List will be a weekly post going up every Sunday night/ Monday depending on Broncos game time/how excited/depressed I am over the outcome. It’s a list, or grouping, or cluster of people, things, stuff, situations, that I deem stinky in the previous/particular week. The oral stink list had become a favorite of my close buddies over the past two seasons, so I, being the generous misanthrope that I am, have decided to share the stench with ya’ll. Josh McDaniels

Is Brandon Marshall‘s lack of playbook knowledge a big deal? Not if you ask Head Coach Josh McDaniels, who said it isn’t any different from what he’d expect from any injured player. He also added that playbooks aren’t handed out during the offseason. Some Wednesday practice quotes below: Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Brandon Marshall says he has never asked the Broncos for a raise, and that his issues with the team have much deeper roots, Frank Schwab of the Colorado Springs Gazette reports. Marshall, who was relegated to the scout team for the second straight practice Wednesday, sounded off on his current team, indicating that things could be reaching a breaking point.

“Unfortunately, sometimes it gets to that point,” Marshall said. “There are trust issues on both sides. It’s understandable. We’ve got to try our best to move forward.”

Marshall has mentioned trust issues in the past, citing a misdiagnosis of his hip injury in 2008 and discussions this summer with Pat Bowlen, in which the owner told Marshall he would be traded. However, those promises never came to fruition. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

While all four teams in the AFC West have named a starting quarterback, the San Diego Chargers are the only group with a quarterback situation completely devoid of controversy (VOLEKTRICITY fans, argue if you will). The Broncos, of course, are waist-deep in fan and media speculation involving Kyle Orton and Chris Simms. The Raiders have proclaimed JaMarcus Russell the starter despite adding solid veteran Jeff Garcia in the offseason.

And then there’s Kansas City, who appeared set at the QB position after trading for Matt Cassel. The Chiefs couldn’t possibly be considering benching Mr. Second-Coming-Of-Tom-Brady, could they, not after the ridiculous contract to which they signed him only a month ago?

Possibly. And the culprit for the QB controversy is none other than Brodie Croyle. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Marshall

After being a healthy scratch from Monday’s PM practice, talk of bombshells, and another denial to a new contract, there were heavy rumors that the Broncos and Brandon Marshall could be headed for an “ugly standoff.” Consider that standoff pending – Marshall was in attendance during the team’s practice Tuesday.

So, for the time being, life goes on in Dove Valley. Brandon Marshall may be upset with the Broncos, but that hasn’t kept him from practicing… at least, not until he “tweaks” another “hamstring.”

It was more of the same in Broncos camp Monday. Brandon Marshall‘s agent met with the front office again to request a new contract for his client. They were denied. In response, Marshall’s agent requested a trade. Again, they were denied.

Why the continued stubbornness from the Broncos in light of Marshall’s recent exoneration? Mike Klis of the Denver Post breaks it down in this excellent piece. Per the CBA, moral clauses attached to new contracts are complicated beasts (pun intended). While your run of the mill Monday Morning GM will overstate the simplicity of signing Marshall to a risk-free deal, it’s simply not that easy. Click here to read the rest of this entry »
