Who’s hot: QB Tom Brady. Maybe “hot” is too strong a word; if it weren’t for three weeks of looking legitimately bad, his pedestrian 258-yard, 1-TD performance Sunday would seem merely lukewarm. But against a Baltimore defense that sacked Brady three times, he got the job done with a one-yard QB sneak for a touchdown while hitting nine different receivers. • While others get most of the pub, the numbers suggest D.J. Williams might be the Broncos’ true Defensive MVP.  [Denver Post]

Champ Bailey

Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey will be named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for games played during the fourth week (Oct. 4-5) of the 2009 season, the Broncos announced Tuesday.

Bailey posted eight tackles (all solo), one interception (3 yds.) and a game-high four pass breakups in Denver’s 17-10 win against Dallas on Sunday. His passes defensed included two last-second breakups in the end zone that sealed the Broncos win, leaving the Cowboys frustrated (and Tony Romo flustered).

Perhaps most surprising is the fact that this is Bailey’s first such award as a Bronco; he won the NFC’s version twice as a Redskin but never earned it in the AFC — even in 2006, when he finished 2nd in Defensive MVP voting.

Bailey was also a very worthy recipient of a BT Game Ball. Press release after the jump. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Morning BroncoTalk family.
Wipe that sleep from your eyes and let me know how it feels to be 4-0 with sole possession of the division! How does it feel? We’re still undefeated. We’re still underrated. We’re still disrespected. Although, John Clayton has started his back tracking. The bums over at The Football Today podcast on ESPN, namely Jeremy Green, have a strong unspoken vendetta against the Broncos and they’re not backing down. It’s upsetting. I just wish people understood. I wish they could feel what we’re feeling.

Everybody scream.

Everybody scream.

The 2009 Denver Broncos land on the cover of Sports Illustrated,

The 2009 Denver Broncos land on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

The last time the Denver Broncos were undefeated through four weeks of the season – 2003 – Sports Illustrated decided to honor their success by placing then-quarterback Jake Plummer on the October 6th edition’s cover.

Those Broncos lost the next week in Kansas City and finished 6-6 down the stretch for a 10-6 record, Wild Card berth and hasty exit out of the playoffs.

So what does SI do when these 2009 Broncos start 4-0? They throw them on the cover again, this time featuring a leaping Daniel Graham and the headline “Getting Real.”

Thanks, SI. Thanks. With the Cover Jinx in full effect, the Broncos will surely crumble to an epic 2-10 collapse that rivals the win-one-game-with-three-to-go debacle they surrendered last year. Hey, can you manage to put Elvis Dumervil and Ryan Clady on the 2011 Madden cover simultaneously while you’re at it?!

Are we serious? No. It’s quite an honor, and we’re proud of our Broncos. Tongue firmly placed in cheek… we think.

While Broncos country celebrated its third goal line stop of the Dallas Cowboys in the game’s waning seconds Sunday, quarterback Tony Romo tried to rally his troops back to the line for that fourth and final try.

Except there wasn’t one. Romo had spiked the football and killed the clock on second down and apparently forgot he was out of tries. Take a look:

Now, it can be easy for a FAN to get lost in the heat of the moment in a big football game, but generally, it’s important for the QUARTERBACK to be in tune with the flow of the game. You know, little things, like the given down of any play, when a play is his team’s absolute final last shot for the tie, etc.. Quite a snafu there by the ex-Mr. Jessica Simpson.

My power rankings are fittingly named the ‘Tentative Ten’ because every week it’s subject to check, and erratically at that. Also featured is a Rookie, Defensive, and Offensive Player of the Year Watch, and a Coach of the Year Watch.

1.  New Orleans Saints (4-0)

The defense has arrived.  Darren Sharper showed Mark Sanchez what it’s really like to be a rookie. I bet Matt Stafford was probably thinking “How does it feel Mark!?!”

Glaring Stat: Drew Brees has done practically nothing not breaking 200 yards passing or thrown a touchdown in the last two wins.

2.  New York Giants (4-0)  Click here to read the rest of this entry »
