Mt. Crushmore

Retired Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis and tight end Shannon Sharpe have been named among the 25 semifinalists for the 2010 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. [Official site] Along with running back Floyd Little, who is one of two senior member candidates, the Broncos have three representatives for the Hall of Fame voters’ consideration.

This list of 25 (plus two) will be whittled down to 15 (plus two) by January 7th, with final voting to take place on February 6th. The committee votes between four and seven finalists into the Hall each year.

I understand the voters having their reasons against Little and Davis (even though I feel very strongly both belong), but Sharpe’s denial into the Hall last year was ridiculous. The committee needs to do these players justice.

BroncoTalk Game Balls

When the Broncos win, we give out Game Balls. It goes without saying, but we will anyway — it feels damn good to hand out some game balls again. Broncos 26, Giants 6 — alright gentlemen, who ya got?!

Brandon MarshallBrandon Marshall
I feel like a Brandon Marshall fanboy doing this, but seriously. Not one but TWO stellar one handed grabs? Kyle Orton jokingly told The Beast between drives that he was making him look bad by making those sensational catches, but really. That kind of catch is just not what we come to expect from Marshall. We expect tough catches inside and hard yards after the catch, not Jerry Rice jump up specials. Marshall came to play, and once again he put up a performance that says that despite his attitude, he deserves to be paid. – E. Halsey Miles

Brian DawkinsBrian Dawkins
Brian Dawkins is a maniac, plain and simple. Weapon-X was all over the field making tackles, forcing fumbles, and motivating players. Time after time, play after play, Dawkins was the heart and soul of the Denver Broncos defense. Despite his age Dawkins showed versatility by playing back in coverage, helping with run support, and provide pressure on the blitz. This Thanksgiving B-Dawk gives Denver fans a lot to be thankful for. – Mr. East Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Shanahan

During hour one, Bills owner Ralph Wilson Jr. expressed his willingness to untie his purse strings, showing off his progressive yet classical metro sexual style.

During hour two, Mike Shanahan inquired about Buffalo’s real estate.

In hour three, the pair talked X’s and O’s. Cat’s game.

In hour four, they discussed possibly bringing Terrell Owens to Buffalo for a visit, but thought better otherwise.

During hour five, Shanahan agreed in principal to Wilson’s contract offer, as long as he can coach the Dallas Cowboys, too.

During hour six, Shanahan told Wilson that he sees a bit of Terrell Davis in Wilson’s assistant.

And in hour seven, Shanahan rested. On his laurels.

DENVER BRONCOS HEAD COACH JOSH MCDANIELS

On ending the losing streak

“Today really had nothing to do with the streak for us. We were pleased with the way that we came out and prepared this week. It’s not easy to prepare for a difficult opponent that we don’t know very well in just two or three days of preparation. Our team had a great attitude. You could tell they really were looking forward to playing tonight, and enjoyed the whole atmosphere and the fact that we had three days in between. We played complimentary football. We played pretty well in all three phases. It always feels better to win.”

If you’re a Bronco fan you could really care less about this… actually if you’re in NFL fan you should love this. Nonetheless, the NFLN should have edited this on national television, and now they are hearing waves about this. Love it or hate it, McDaniels is passionate.

UPDATE: The NFL YouTube police took the earlier video down, so we posted a new working (and more, um, enthusiastic) version. Thanks to areferee in the comments.

Call it mojo, call it moxie, or call it football fundamentals — whatever the Denver Broncos were missing during their four-game losing streak, they were thankful to get it back Thursday night. 96 hours after INVESCO Field at Mile High saw the Broncos humiliated by a division foe, Denver returned to its winning ways with a 26-6 drubbing of the New York Giants

Defensively, the Broncos dominated. Linebacker Elvis Dumervil had two sacks and a forced fumble, extending his league-best sack total to a career-high 14. Safety Brian Dawkins, facing a New York Giants team he knew all too well from his days in Philadelphia, flew around the football field, forcing a fumble and recovering another before halftime. The Giants only tallied 38 net yards offense in the first half, and they only scored six points overall as Denver’s defense returned to its early season dominant form.

Offensively, the Broncos were thorough and efficient. Knowshon Moreno was dynamic in his runs, and Kyle Orton was a pressure-dodging surgeon. The Broncos overcame a myriad of penalties and a lone Orton interception to handle the G-Men’s defense with seaming ease.

Most of all, the Broncos proved to the world that their season isn’t over. With five games to play, they forced themselves back into the conversation with a convincing win. And for that, Broncos fans give thanks.

The Denver Broncos have taken a commanding 16-0 lead as they and the New York Giants head into halftime on Thanksgiving night, and I, for one, am thankful.

As dominating a picture as the scoreboard paints, statistically the Broncos’ stats are even more impressive. They have outgained New York to the tune of 213 net yards to the Giants’ 38. Kyle Orton has thrown for 149 yards while Eli Manning has only gained nine. Broncos rushers have outgained the Giants 64-29, and Denver has nearly doubled New York in time of possession, 19:47 to 10:13.

The defense is flying to the football, forcing fumbles, and holding the Giants to 1.65 yards per play. They haven’t been perfect, but they’re 30 minutes away from finishing a hellish November on a high note.
