Denver Broncos running backs coach Bobby Turner will get to interview with the Washington Redskins after all.
After the Broncos denied the same request from the Redskins last week, they have now permitted Turner to interview in Washington, Adam Schefter reports. Schefter did not indicate whether Turner was interviewing for the same position as the original request (running backs coach, Turner’s current title with the Broncos) or a different role.
Another possibility for the change of heart (and this is all speculation) is that, with Rick Dennison likely Houston-bound, the Broncos were more willing to let Turner go knowing that Dennison wouldn’t be around in 2010 with him. Could this signal an overall offensive scheme change from Denver’s storied zone blocking to New England‘s power blocking, of which Josh McDaniels would be more familiar? Stay tuned…

Let’s talk about quarterback, baby. Let’s talk about you and me.
Colin of South Stands Denver makes his case — if the Eagles don’t want him, he’d be happy to see the Denver Broncos pursue QB Donovan McNabb.
Kim at Predominantly Orange agrees, to a point. Maybe a change at quarterback isn’t needed, but a change in offensive philosophy — from conservative to aggressive — definitely is.
How stable is the Broncos’ roster? The guys at MHR have a graphical take, starting with — what else? — quarterback.

With Denver Broncos offensive line coach Rick Dennison interviewing with the Houston Texans today, and running backs coach Bobby Turner denied that same opportunity in Washington, many have asked via Twitter, email and comments why the former was permitted to talk with another team, and the latter was not.
Our initial understanding was that Turner’s interview request involved a lateral position, and so the Broncos weren’t required to allow him to interview. Since Dennison’s interview in Houston involves what would be a promotion to offensive coordinator, they would be.
This isn’t entirely accurate. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Packers (11-5) at Cardinals (10-6)
2:40 p.m. MT
The Line: Packers by 3
The Story: Rematches, rematches, rematches. This marks the third game this weekend featuring teams that just played last week. The Packers took it to the Cardinals 33-7, but Arizona took the week off. How will they fare this week as the home underdogs against possibly the hottest team in the NFC, who went 7-1 down the stretch? Click here to read the rest of this entry »
Broncos offensive line coach Rick Dennison will interview for the Texans
The Mike Shanahan-led Redskins were unable to pluck a Denver Broncos offensive assistant away. The Gary Kubiak-led Texans appear to have been more fortunate.
Per Adam Schefter on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, Kubiak has sought and been granted permission to interview Broncos offensive line coach Rick Dennison for their open offensive coordinator position. The Texans’ former coordinator, Kyle Shanahan, joined his dad in D.C. to be the O.C. there (so, in a roundabout way, Shanny still plucked an offensive assistant away). Ravens (9-7) at Patriots (10-6)
11:00 a.m. MT
The Line: Patriots by 3.5
The Story: The Patriots and Tom Brady are undefeated at home in the playoffs, and New England is a perfect 8-0 there this season. This will be Tom Terrific’s first playoff game since the 2007 Super Bowl loss, while Joe Flacco made it the AFC Championship Game as a rookie last year. Eagles (11-5) at Cowboys (11-5)
6:00 p.m. MT
The Line: Cowboys by 3.5
The Story: An interesting juxtaposition of playoff histories will see the field tonight: the Dallas Cowboys haven’t won a playoff game since 1996, while the Philadelphia Eagles are 7-0 under Andy Reid in the opening game of a playoff berth. Things will have to change dramatically from last week for that to happen, though: the Cowboys and Eagles played for the division title in Philadelphia, where Dallas dominated Philly 24-0 and now aim for the fabled three-game season sweep of their heated rival. Jets (9-7) at Bengals (10-6)
2:30 p.m. MT
The Line: Bengals by 2.5
The Story: The New York Jets were 7-7 when the Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals decided to lay down and let them back into the playoffs, but after a 37-0 shellacking of the Bengals last week, two turnover-free games by Mark Sanchez, and the most media-repeated stats of the 2010 season (“#1 defense, #1 scoring defense, #1 running team!”), the Jets look like a legitimate contender. Click here to read the rest of this entry »
Denver Broncos rookie linebacker Robert Ayers has been fined $5,000 for his body-slamming tackle on Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles from Sunday, ProFootballTalk reports.
Frankly, Ayers is lucky to get away with only $5,000. An inch the wrong way and Charles is significantly hurt.
This and a fumble recovery return for a touchdown against the Steelers in Week 8 are the only items of note in Ayers’ 2009 rookie campaign. We’re hoping for more in 2010, RA.
