Here’s something that probably will go unnoticed until broadcast time…

Today is Kyle Orton‘s 28th birthday.

I think Woody’s 4-12 prediction was a year early.

Well, at least I did… Today, I see hope. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

The Denver Broncos just released this statement in regards to D.J. Williams

“The Denver Broncos are extremely disappointed in D.J. Williams’ careless and irresponsible actions on Friday morning. This type of behavior is taken very seriously by the organization.

“The Broncos have levied the heaviest fines possible to him for conduct detrimental to the club under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement due to the disruption and resulting impact on the team. He will not start in Sunday’s game against the Chiefs and has been stripped of his captaincy for the season.

“Any further possible discipline stemming from this incident will be determined by the league’s policies and the legal system.”

The Broncos do look like they intend to play Williams until further action is determined. The team finds themselves even thinner at an already thin linebacker position.

D.J. Williams

Denver Broncos linebacker (and team captain) D.J. Williams was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence Sunday, 7News Denver reports.

Head Coach Josh McDaniels said he had not seen or spoken to Williams as of the coach’s 10:00 a.m. Friday morning presser.

Lindsay Jones of The Denver Post notes that this is the second DUI incident for Williams.  He was previously arrested in 2005.

The fact that this is his second offense will likely put him under the eye of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.  Notably, NFL players Jared Allen and Vincent Jackson received respective four-game and two-game suspensions for multiple DUI arrests.

The Broncos will defer to the league for Williams’ discipline, said McDaniels.

McCluster

Taking advantage of his versatility, the Chiefs have found a wide variety of ways to get McCluster the ball. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

Each week, coaches in the NFL watch film on their upcoming opponent.  They then come up with a game plan based off what they saw on the film.  Similarly, in BT’s Film Room, I’ll watch film on the Broncos upcoming foe week-to-week and give you my thoughts on what to watch for on Sunday. This week: Kansas City Chiefs Edition.

The Chiefs enter week nine with the best rushing attack, and one of the most talented offenses in the NFL.  To prepare for that, the Broncos will have to key several players on Sunday.  Among those players are:

WR/RB Dexter McCluster. A 22-year old rookie out of Mississippi, McCluster has contributed just about everywhere for the Chiefs this season.  Taking full use of his talent, the Chiefs have used McCluster in a variety of ways.  This season, Dexter has caught 15 passes for 147 yards and a score, rushed 11 times for 60 yards and returned 17 kicks for 361 yards, including a 94-yard punt return for a touchdown.

The Broncos can limit his productivity by not letting the Chiefs get him the ball in space.  Click here to read the rest of this entry »

We’re three days into the week long column designed specifically to wet your dried up tongues for a battle against the best in the AFC West Kansas City Chiefs.

Here’s part one and part two of the Best of the West breakdown.

We’ve got some incredible fan contribution on the two posted articles, so please keep it coming and I’ll get the guys that I am recruiting to write here to respond in the comments section.

Today’s scenario as a new general manager:

On the defensive side of things the Broncos have been decimated. We’ve tried 3-4, we’ve tried 4-3 we don’t have the personnel at this point for either. Is it bend but don’t break, is it full on onslaught or at this point or let’s just do the best we can with what we’ve got? Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Daniel CoatsFollowing the release of DE Le Kevin Smith this morning the team added former Bengals tight end Daniel Coats.  Coats has 30 receptions for 291 yards over this 3+ seasons in the NFL.  He is labeled as a blocking back that also has ball skills and has played a good bit of special teams.  The former Bengal was released to make room on the Cincinnati squad for another tight end, J.P. Foschi.

In related news the Broncos waived TE Riar Geer from the practice squad once again to bring back defensive end Jeff Stehle.  Looks like this was done for roster balancing, bringing a TE to the active squad in place of DE, and vice versa with the practice squad.

Josina Anderson of Fox 31 in Denver is reporting via Twitter that defensive end Le Kevin Smith has been notified that he will be released today and the team is discussing options at tight end.  This comes on the heels of the team working out former Raven tight end Edgar Jones and Dallas/Detroit tackle Cliff Louis.  Jones is a former linebacker who was converted to the offensive position while in Baltimore.

This is the second time Smith has been released from the squad this season, the first during the 53 man roster cut down.  The Broncos brought the rotational defensive end back on to the team October 26th.  Denver traded a 2010 5th round draft choice  and a 7th round pick to the Patriots last season to acquire Smith’s services.

Broncos Camp Football

Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Tim Tebow announced yesterday that he’ll be writing a memoir to be released next April.

HarperCollins will publish the book, which will be titled “Through My Eyes”.

Tebow’s much publicized life is one of the most inspirational stories in American sports.  He captivated the country with his relentless will to succeed on the field and his passion for others.  The memoir will reveal how this remarkable young man constantly strives to be the best, has always overcome the odds and how he has managed to do so while remaining true to his faith and family values.

Isn’t it kinda early to write a book though?  Granted, he’s had an inspiring life and college career, but writing his book now gives the impression that he is satisfied with what’s he has accomplished.  Which is fine, he’s done incredible things in college and assuredly has plenty to write about.  But shouldn’t he wait to write his memoir till he’s proven himself–or at least even played a season–in the NFL?  What if the books comes out in April and in May he’s named the starter?  Will he then write another book?  Perhaps, “Through My Eyes 2.0”.

I am not much of a Dallas Cowboy fan, but this season who is, right?

With Sunday nights blowout 45-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Wade Phillips is undoubtedly on the hot seat and a move may be made as early as today.

Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones has said last week that Phillips will remain in place through the end of the season, but at this point something has got to give in Dallas.

If Pat Bowlen hasn’t burned the bridge, Denver needs Phillips back on the Broncos coaching staff. Not as a replacement to Josh McDaniels, but as his defensive coordinator.

It’s not insane and I’d hate to see Wink Martindale lose his job, but if Phillips is a free agent I implore Mr. Bowlen, bring in Phillips as quickly as possible and give him a salary.

Though the team’s defense may not turn around this season, it will over the off-season and nearly every defense that Phillips touches turns to gold.

He’s just not a head coach.

UPDATE: Phillips has been fired by the Cowboys.
