Tebow

The cover of "Through My Eyes".

Another day, another post about Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.

Tim Tebow’s memoir, “Through My Eyes” is scheduled to be released on May 24th, 2011.  The book is probably quite similar  to ESPN’s documentary piece on Tebow, “Everything In Between“, with more basis on Tebow’s personal life and collegiate career.

You can pre-order the book on Amazon and read more about the release after the jump. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

nfl-draft-2011

The first round of the 2011 NFL Draft will take place at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City, on Friday, April 28th.

The Denver Broncos have been awarded a seventh round compensatory pick (246th overall) in the upcoming NFL Draft, the team announced on Friday.

In short, compensatory picks are given to a team if it is determined that they lost more or better players than they were able to acquire during the previous year’s free agency period.  The Broncos now own seven selections — 1st (2), 2nd (36 & 46), 3rd (67), 6th (186 & 189) and 7th (246) — in this years draft.

Generally, any player picked later than the fifth round is a long shot to make the roster.  That hasn’t necessarily been the case in Denver in recent years, however.  Last April, the team selected cornerback Syd’Quan Thompson in the seventh round and in 2008, the team drafted fullback/running back Peyton Hillis in the seventh round.

The team’s starting fullback, Spencer Larsen, is a former 6th round selection.  Ultimately, you can find a great player in any round (some of the greatest to ever play the game even went undrafted), so Denver won’t take this extra pick for granted, a seventh rounder or not.

The 2011 NFL Draft will take place on Friday, April 28th-30th.

Tebow

"There's only one person that carries the ball right here!" (Courtesy of NFL Network)

As we slowly progress through the locked out offseason, we thought it would be fun to go back and relive the Denver Broncos‘ high moments of last season (although scarce they may be).   While their final record wouldn’t imply it, there were several high moments in the Broncos 2010 season.

Over the next few days, and maybe even weeks, we’ll be reliving those moments.  We start with: Quarterback Tim Tebow‘s second career start and first come-from-behind victory.  Enjoy.

Some have speculated that the Denver Broncos are working out several of the top quarterback draft prospects to give the impression of interest in order to entice a team that truly wants one of the top-rated quarterbacks to make a trade for their number two pick.

That was a nice theory, until Mike Klis threw it out the window.

On Tuesday, Klis wrote in an article for the Denver Post that Denver’s interest in this 2011 quarterback class is sincere.

Then today, he shared this:

Never mind the economic factor of the No. 2 overall pick. Sheer roster needs scream that the Broncos must trade back from the No. 2 pick in hopes of adding at least one more pick in the second round.

But to trade back on draft day, April 28, the Broncos need a near-miraculous resolution to the current labor agreement. As it stands now, the No. 2 pick would likely get $44 million in contract guarantees (10 percent more than the $40 million Detroit handed Ndamukong Suh last year).

A new CBA promises a contract cap system on first-round picks that reduce that guarantee figure substantially. Without a new CBA by April 28 — and face it, there won’t be – the Broncos will be the second team drafting.

Translated: the Broncos can’t trade down from 2nd overall come April, and the team knows it. “If it stays like it’s been there’s no way anybody’s trading,” said Broncos Head Coach John Fox.  So if they can’t trade down, who are they going to take 2nd overall? • One of them however,  has the potential to eliminate all kickoff returns, especially at Invesco Field.  Kickoffs will now take place from the 35-yard line and since Broncos kicker Matt Prater already has a high touchback percentage, it seems unlikely than many kicks will be returned.  [Broncos Zone]

  • Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is among the 32 31 players that fans can vote for to be on the cover of Madden NFL 12.  (That’s 31 players because the Seahawks players suck so much so that have such huge fans that they are represented by The 12th Man in the voting — the fans.)  You can vote for Tebow here.  [Predominantly Orange article]

John Elway has clearly stated that the new Broncos regime is all about transparency. Despite the the complete openness of the front office, the minds of Bronco fans are extremely convoluted when it comes to the quarterback situation.

Elway’s recent comments are not helping the situation at all. According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, John Elway has recently stated:

“We’re always looking for that guy,” Elway said, when asked specifically about the so-called “franchise quarterback of the future.” “We may already have the guy who can pull the trigger and win us a championship someday. We may have him. We don’t know. We believe in Tim [Tebow] but he’s not there yet.”

Now, I’m not trying to stir the pot, I’m just calling the events like I see them. It is hard not to be a little suspicious of the front offices’ intentions with all the workouts they’ve held with potential high round quarterback prospects like Jake Locker and Blaine Gabbert.

Like I’ve said before either the front office doesn’t believe at all in Tim Tebow or they’re trying their damn hardest to fool everyone into believe so.

What do you think Bronco nation? Are all of these stunts illusions or indications?

Pat Bowlen has been targeted by the likes of the Denver Post‘s Woody Paige, ProFootballTalk‘s Greg Rosenthall and West Word‘s Alan Prendergast as being a man who is not in his right mind. A man who has stepped back in his day-to-day management of the Denver Broncos.

Now, I have a New York reporter chiming in and it has hit close to home… See I live in New York and I can tell you amongst the New York papers the New York Post is considered more of a tabloid around here, a TMZ amongst papers who legitimize journalism. Yet, this paper, the Post (not the Denver Post, the New York Post) has a reporter, Bart Hubbuch, who has tweeted regarding the owner of the Broncos Mr. Bowlen:

Wow, does Pat Bowlen look frail and out of it. His right-hand man just had to show him how to get in a car. Sad.

Several problems here… One that Hubbuch paints the picture that it was nearly a throw-away comment in several tweets to Broncos’ faithful who followed up his original tweet to which he replied. Two that Bowlen is amongst those heading up the negotiations between players and owners and three Bowlen is the owner of the team of which you are a follower (because you’re reading this blog, right now). A couple of days ago Ian Henson chimed in on the Jake Locker private workout. Perhaps we’ll soon hear his thoughts about Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who will also have a private workout with the Broncos, who were just recently at his pro day as well.

Many fans are quick to dismiss these workouts merely as smokescreens or strategic maneuvers like the naming of Kyle Orton as the starter, or John Elway‘s neutral comments about Tim Tebow. However, Ian had a couple of valid reasons not to dismiss these efforts by the Broncos front office, one of them struck me particularly. Click here to read the rest of this entry »
