UPDATED 3/16/11 @ 12:45 EST

Well, The Denver Post did not update today, so fans of the Denver Broncos have had limited sources for information and entertainment.

Have no fear, the one sliver of news that has slipped to our thirsty lips is that Washington Huskies quarterback Jake Locker will have a private workout of the Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings and the Broncos.

Hundreds, maybe even thousands of Tim Tebow Denver fans (especially BroncoTalk’s own Jon) immediately screamed/wondered allowed WHY?

Andrew Mason of MaxDenver pointed to the ever present smoke screen factor. Yet, I don’t see how anyone in the NFL could possibly see this as a smoke screen.

The Broncos have yet to show any type of significant support of any of the three quarterbacks on their roster. Kyle Orton got the old if the season started today he’d be our starter… treatment. It’s been said that Tim Tebow still has a lot to work on to be a starting quarterback in the NFL and head coach John Fox even said that he was, ‘excited’ to see Brady Quinn.

So there’s that.

Come on fans of the Broncos, the only thing you can ever know is that you know nothing. I’m not saying that Denver is actually interested in Locker, but then again from what I’ve seen I can’t imagine anybody being interested in Locker. Yet, at the end of April… Someone will have drafted him.

So smoke screen or not, Locker will sit down with the (original) Mile High Messiah John Elway and that man will make a decision and have one third input on draft day. Denver could easily bundle two second round draft picks or a second and a third to trade up into the first or use their first to trade back and gather something else… There’s no team in the NFL that’s worried about the Broncos picking Locker at number two overall. That’s for sure.

With players having no value as currency in this year’s draft, the only thing teams will be able to trade is other draft picks and Denver has four in the first three rounds.

The new regime isn’t so much different than the old regime, but the audacity is turned down. No longer do fans have a Josh McDaniels stating that no one on the roster’s position is safe. The team will just show that by their actions.

UPDATE:

John Elway has spoken via Twitter, not directly on this, but on the Broncos philosophy on the incoming rookie class, “Our philosophy is to look at as many players as possible who are on our draft board. Important to be thorough at every position. We’ve got several Pro Day visits coming up, including Missouri’s on Thursday.”

I can’t imagine that any of these three men want their time wasted, there is definitely at least some type of interest on the part of Denver. It will often be pointed out that Mike Shanahan didn’t have a private workout with Jay Cutler, nor did McDaniels with Tebow, but Tebow and McDaniels did have meetings and Shanahan would have had a full on mutiny on his hands if the 13-3 Broncos coming off an AFC Championship game loss were looking at quarterbacks. Shanahan had let Jake Plummer run the asylum before and continues to to this day now with Donovan McNabb.

Hahahaha, nice Ian but I really didn't think much of it.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

    Why is that?

  • 5280

not much to say except to point out that locker IS very good talent at QB. There's many people very interested in Kake locker and he is the second rated QB in the draft on mike mayocks top 5 at the position. he has a great arm and he had the 2nd fastest 40 time at the combine and exhibited great foot work. to say that no one would be interested is quite inaccurate, especially when you take into account all the teams that need a QB this year.

very odd that denver is looking at him though. all signs point to DL in this years draft for the broncos. i dont understand why they're making this move. they could use the team more wisely and check out some of the other linemen that might be present in the late 1st round in case they want to trade back down into the 1st round.

  • 5280

man typos all over! i meant jake locker not kake locker lol

  • Laramiefan

OK let's gamble that there might be a one and a two draft pick in order for another team that might want or need to move up to get Jake Locker .

  • Kash_kma

Could it be that they are evaluating him as part of deal with another team, i.e. broncos sit with him whilst another team sits with a player teh broncos are interested in?

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

Hah! If you'll deal with mine, I will deal with yours =)

  • sea-level bronc

Ineresting idea Kash_Kma; Shanahan could have called for Elways opinion. He called on Fischer to help evaluate Cutler. Elway might just oblige him.

  • Hansen

There may be more to it, but overall, this is more evidence that Elway and Co. are not sold on Tebow. Obviously Elway has the eye for QB talent and it makes sense he evaluate some QBs. The Broncos may not/probably won't draft Locker but the fact is, as I see it, they will be drafting one either this year or next. If Orton starts he may play poorly or get hurt then Tebow will come in. Tebow will make his one read, scramble, get smacked a couple good times, get hurt, and/or play poorly then we will be back to Orton or whoever. Either way, the Broncos may be in the Luck sweepstakes, or close to it.

  • Gradishar53

Lose Tebow, lose me as a 40 year fan… The kid deserves a shot, and now w/ a five-year-old boy I want to enjoy a decade plus of games with this guy.

  • Orangecrush831

r u serious gradishar? 1 player is more important than the whole team? the whole franchise? the tradition? seriously… you've been a bronco fan for 41 years right? 40 of those years were without tebow. why act this way now? makes no sense. leave if you want who cares theres plenty of loyal bronco fans that support the entire franchise no matter who is qb

  • Orangecrush831

wait sorry i meant 40, i was just baffled what i read and didint pay attention till now lol

  • Orangecrush831

i think i got the 41 because it says 41 min ago lol xD

  • The Mascot Army

They are playing head games by checking out Locker and skipping Peterson. Red Herrings to make later picking GMs panicky. That is my theory anyway.

  • herc_rock

Tomorrow: Chiming in on Baine Gabbert.

  • Paradisimo

I could really see the Broncos trading Tebow if there is a CBA agreement before the draft. When you think about it it actually makes a fair amount of sense. You will probably get a better draft pick for Tebow than Orton and then can use a second round pick on a Locker or Mallett type QB and spend next season grooming them without the need to rush them into the line-up. If MN, JAC or TEN are willing to give up their first round pick for Tebow it would be awfully difficult to say no. Sure you piss of a few fans along the way but the sooner you get back to winning the sooner they will be back as well.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

You saw what I did there, didn't you? Elway will actually make the trip to see Blaine Gabbert though, so he'll visit Gabbert and Cam Newton at their Pro Days.

  • CJ

If they draft offense in the first round i will destroy my television. Let alone a Quarterback???

  • Ghj

I hope it's smokescreen. I'm tired of seeing denver QBs being alienated in the offseason even when they do well and we have much bigger issues

  • Gradishar53

When I was single in my 20's & 30s team came first… With all the garbage in professional sports… Now we have a and supremely talented good guy at the helm, yes I'm serious. Now in my 40s I care more about who my boy takes his life lessons from than a win-loss record. I'd rather take my boy fishing than win a SB w/a Roethlisberger or a Vick…

Maybe I'm just an old man, but I'm my son's old man…

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

I've gotten so fed up with the CBA that anything NFL-related anymore has just kinda become a blur — I've lost a lot of interest in it all… plus, I don't know if it's really anything to get worked up about.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

There are a lot of lessons to be learned in the current CBA. Life lessons, when you choose a side… Is the NFL right, are the players right? Who knows? History will prove that the winner is/was right. It's what happens when greed overtakes humankind, but at the end of the day, it's our greed; ours being the consumer, we're the one that needs football when ultimately football needs us. Yet we the consumers remain defenseless when we're the only real ones who have control.

  • MrEast

Dude just might be Bronco, this “Tebow controversy” is more serious than people think.

  • TheTroglodyte

I'm not buying it. If they were working out a “different” kind of QB maybe but Locker is a poor mans version of Tebow. He isn't quite as big, quite as strong, quite as accurate, quite as much of a winner.

This isn't a post about how great Tebow is, just that Locker is the same player as Tebow but not quite as good (however good Tebow is up to you to decide)

Even if you think Tebow is complete trash that would be like dumping Britney Spears for Lindsay Lohan. What's the point?

  • The Mascot Army

    I completely disagree.
It would be like dumping Britney Spears for Paris Hilton.

  • TheTroglodyte

lol I've seen Paris's erm… video. That would definitely be a downgrade.

  • Audi

    Sure hope you leave then.

  • Audi

You are your sons roll model. Not some clown that runs fast or throws hard.

Broncos job is to win. And if that is without Tebow, all the better.

  • Big_Pete

I think us looking at QB's is more of a sign that we are looking to trade back, than actually taking a QB. If teams hungry for a QB think that there is a possibility of us taking a QB #2 overall, that will give them incentive to either trade to the #1 position, or try to get our #2 pick.

  • Gradishar53

Children look to all kinds of “heros” to emulate… Sports figures are chief among them… You never looked up to athletes growing up? Randy Gradiashar was my sports hero… Took my own FB number from him… Dad's are different, they are not they only role models… Don't be naive!

P.S. “And if that is without Tebow, all the better.” Sounds like you're just a hater…

  • Gradishar53

Why because I express a reasoned opinion? You don't know the first thing about me. Grow up!

  • Orangecrush831

ok dude i never mentioned anything about your son. now if ur trying to look for a role model for your son, you should be that role model, not some football player. all i was talking about is that your willing to ditch the franchise just because you dont have the qb you want. its not about you or your son, its about the broncos winning. quit being selfish and think about what everyone else wants. and all we bronco fans want is another LOMBARDI.

  • Sports-Glory.com

I didn't like Locker late in the season and why would we draft him when we have Tebow. Locker can run but he cant pass and it showed his senior season. He should have came out last season. http://sports-glory.com

  • Gradishar53

Don't confuse my response to you instead of that hater Audi…

I see your point. But, I have suffered through the long chain of crap character guys that have made their way through here–Gardner, Carter, Clarett, Cutler, McDaniels, etc–that they get a proven winner w/ the heart of a champion… Well, they'd better give him a legit chance, or this isn't the Orange Crush–Elway/Davis/McCaffrey/Sharpe/Smith/Atwater broncos that I grew up w/ and loved.

  • Broncotedkoz

I agree, take a hike old ass. You're a Tebow fan not a true Bronco fan.

Bottom line, Tebow hasn't done anything for this franchise yet. The Broncos don't owe him a damn thing.
