Over the past week, we conducted a Speak Up Series on the blog addressing all of the basic positions on Denver’s roster.  Below are the results of our fan polling:

  • Nobody knows what the offensive line should look like

Fans were in a dead split as of Tuesday afternoon on what the offensive line should look like this season.  Fifty percent of fans voted to keep the 2011 unit in place and fifty percent suggested moving players around.  It’s probably safe to say that the jury is still out on the offensive line.

  • Dumervil, Warren, Wolfe and Ayers should be the main pieces on the defensive line

Sixty percent of fans voted to have Elvis Dumervil and Robert Ayers as the starting defensive ends with Ty Warren and Derek Wolfe as the main defensive tackles.  A rotation of Justin Bannan and Sealver Siliga at defensive tackle received the second-most votes (fifteen percent).

  • Thomas and Green should back up Dreessen and Tamme

Seventy-two percent of fans voted for Joel Dreessen, Jacob Tamme, Virgil Green and Julius Thomas to be Denver’s four main tight ends this season.  Many fans remain optimistic about Thomas.

  • The fans want D.J. Williams out of the starting lineup —

In somewhat of a surprise, fifty-five percent of fans voted for Von Miller, Joe Mays and Wesley Woodyard to be the starting three linebackers this season.  A lineup featuring D.J. Williams received the second-most votes (twenty-eight percent).

  • The fans believe Stokley still has some gas left in the tank

Behind starters Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker, sixty-nine percent of fans voted for Andre Caldwell, Matthew Willis and Brandon Stokley to be among Denver’s top five receivers this season.  Those five players appear to be the front-runners to make the final roster as of early July.

  • No surprises in the secondary —

Fifty-six percent of fans voted to have Champ Bailey, Mike Adams, Quinton Carter and Tracy Porter as the four starting defensive backs this season.  That will likely be Denver’s opening day lineup in the secondary.

  • One last chance for Moreno?

Fifty-one percent of fans voted for running backs Knowshon Moreno and Mario Fannin to backup presumed top backs Willis McGahee and Ronnie Hillman this season.  2012 could be a make-or-break season for Moreno.

  • Fans would rather have Plummer over Hanie

Forty-five percent of fans voted for Brock Osweiler to backup Peyton Manning this season, followed by Adam Weber‘s thirty-four percent of votes and Jake Plummer‘s eleven percent.  Obviously not a fan favorite, Caleb Hanie came up last in the voting, receiving ten percent of the votes.  Plummer is a free agent but is not expected to return to the NFL.

And that concludes our 2012 offseason series!  Do you agree with the general consensus?

  • MrEast

    Joe Mays…? Starting…? Again…? *Weeps uncontrollably*

  • TD30isMVP

You mean we didn’t vote for another Bears castoff QB?

  • TD30isMVP

Del Rio and Fox pursued Mays, I just gotta think they will use him correctly.

  • Doom92

I’m not sure it matters much. We need a MLB for sure. I’ve thought all along that was a bigger need than DT.

  • Doom92

I do not agree with the consensus as far as Moreno goes. But he will probably stay and have yet another lackluster year that sports a few big plays and many useless plays. Just is what it is I reckon…lol.

Every thing else looks to be reasonable with out any major objections from this fan. Nice series fellas, worth the read for sure.
