Pick 22: Maurkice Pouncey, C, Florida

My first pick ever incorporating hypothetical trades is for a center. This man is not just any center, he’s a massive human being who can play either guard or center, which are two great positions of need. What did it take for Denver to get the New England Patriots to deal with 22nd overall pick? To be honest, I have no clue in how to estimate the Patriots compensation. Josh McDaniels traded away a 1st round pick for a nickel corner, so who knows what he considers to be value? As the market goes, getting back into the first round costs more than trading within it. The Packers surrendered two 3rd round picks to select Clay Matthews at 25th overall. It might cost even more this year to get back up in the first round due to the elongated format of the draft. My best guess is somewhere in the middle, McDaniels might consider Pouncey worth a 2nd (45th) and a 4th (117th). McDaniels, just like his mentor, loves the second round. Therefore, I don’t see him getting rid of all of his second round picks.

Other Possibilities: The Broncos could still trade up to this spot, but to the dismay to the many, they would select another Florida Gator… Tim Tebow. Most people think Tim Tebow is not a first round pick, however there are many NFL executives who believe otherwise. Tebow has been projected to go to the Vikings at 30 or even 32 to the Saints. All I’m saying is, don’t shoot the messenger.
