Pick 137: Dennis Pitta, TE, BYU
Goodbye Tony Scheffler, thanks for the 5th round draft pick that will produce your replacement, Dennis Pitta. Pitta is another type of guy Josh McDaniels likes. While at BYU Dennis Pitta recorded 221 receptions, 2,901 yards, and 21 touchdowns. Pitta broke BYU’s all-time reception record only a year after Austin Collie left with it. The only thing that keeps Pitta from coming to the Broncos is his blocking skills. However, it’s not that they’re poor, it’s just that they were never tested. But Pitta is a player that will do whatever you ask of him, and will do his best to learn whatever you throw his way.
Other Possibilities: If Mike Johnson is taken here than it’s a decent free fall for the guy. Since there are some other big guards in the draft such as Mike Iupati, John Jerry, John Asamoah, Mitch Petrus, and Marshall Newhouse, Johnson could find himself taken in the fifth. Mike Johnson is a hard working and extremely experienced national champion from Alabama. Josh McDaniels has a close relationship to Nick Saban so it won’t surprise me if we see some of his guys land on the Broncos roster (especially since they’re talented this year).
