Denver Broncos blog, news and rumors

RaiderTalk - BroncoTalk's 2012 April Fool's joke - a satirical-yet-intrinsically nightmarish Oakland Raiders blog.

At 12:01 a.m. last night, April 1, 2012, BroncoTalk – Denver Broncos Blog and News transformed into a terrifying alternate reality: RaiderTalk.

April Fool’s… but there were quite a few negative reactions. We lost Twitter followers. We got a smattering of angry emails (some who said later they were April Fooling us themselves. Possible). We think some of those people actually weren’t reading, saw an Oakland Raiders logo, and flipped out.

Which is totally understandable.

The joke wasn’t on you, Broncos fans; it was on the Oakland Raiders. From Raiders relocation poll options (“I think the Raiders should go to Hell”) to Top 10 Coaches since 1995 (that’s one every 1.7 years) to copyright ownership of their deceased owner’s name, we covered the Oakland Raiders for a day the only way we could imagine: with a heavy dose of satire and self-mockery.

Here’s the rundown of posts from yesterday:

We had a ton of fun, but the day-long satire made us feel dirty, and it’s truly great to be back in the orange and blue. We’ll have a collection of reactions from comments, email and Twitter later today. In the meantime we bellow, as always, a hearty…

GO BRONCOS!!!

In a surprise move, the Denver Broncos have acquired the rights to deceased former Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis.

Per the agreement, as dictated and announced by the NFL and the U.S. Copyright Office, any photographs of Al Davis now belong to the Denver Broncos Football Club. The name “Al Davis” is now a trademark of the Denver Broncos, and the slogan “Just win, baby,” famously coined by the iconic AFL commissioner, cannot be used by any Oakland Raiders employee, fan, or website without written consent from the Denver Broncos.

The Denver Broncos indicated they are prepared to pursue legal action against all transgressors of their new trademarks and copyrights.

It’s always fun to go back and look at some of the great players who have come and gone in Oakland Raiders history.  Today, we’re going to take a look at some film of former Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell.

We at RaiderTalk were excited about Russell coming out of college, as was the team.  More film of Russell after the jump.

With the arrival of new Head Coach Dennis Allen this off-season, we thought it would be fun to go back and look at the Raiders’ top ten head coaches since the 1995 season.  We have the coaches ranked in order of their winning percentages.

1. Dennis Allen (Undefeated)

Allen is of course undefeated until the season starts, so he has the best win percentage among Raiders’ coaches since ’95.  One of the things that has impressed us the most about Allen is his aggressive style of defense.  Allen studied under former New Orleans Defensive Coordinator Greg Williams when he was the Saints secondary coach from 2008-2010.  Under Williams, Allen learned many ways to get production out of a defense that we are hoping he brings to Oakland.

2. Jon Gruden (.594)  Click here to read the rest of this entry »

The Oakland Raiders may consider trying to trade for New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow, RaidersTalk learned early Sunday morning.

Gan Stermama, a Raiders fan who lives in the local Oakland area, called RaidersTalk editors this morning to break the news.  Stermama informed us that he has been trying to contact ESPN since January to report the story, but he has not been able to reach them.

Although this is the first news report that Stermama has broken, he was in the news last December when he shot his boyfriend in the thigh in the O.co Coliseum parking lot following a Raiders loss to the Detroit Lions.  The police resolved the dispute and no charges were filed.

The Jets sent sixth and fourth round picks to Denver last month in exchange for Tebow and a seventh round pick — Oakland would be willing to make a better offer.  The Raiders would like to retain quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Terrelle Pryor, but they reportedly would be willing to trade Rhett Bomar and five of their seven 2013 draft selections to New York in exchange for Tebow.  Oakland may be planning a revolutionary three-way quarterback rotation, but that has not yet been confirmed.

We have calculated that Tebow is owed $1.1 million in 2012, which is well in range of what the Raiders are willing to pay.

Stay tuned as we continue to cover this developing story.

Oakland is obviously far too classy of a town for our beloved Raiders, so its time to pick up shop and move on to less savory locales.  Pay no attention to the lies being reported about the Raiders franchise being a drain on the cities economic prosperity.  Those punks in the city council have no idea how great our fan base is.  They just ignore the six sellouts we’ve had this century.  THE ARROGANCE!

Before we get through our list of potential suitors for our franchise, let’s allow Oakland to makes its case.  I am convinced the city is too good for us, but they did provide this video evidence to attempt to sway our minds to leave:

1984 by George Orwell was a damn good book, but little did we know that the real theme of the book truly was.

Forget about Winston Smith’s rebellion against The Party, aka Big Brother. This book is all about how John Elway would come into the NFL and the Oakland Raiders would be barren of championships for almost 30 years now.

January 4th, 1984. From the time of this post, it has been…

889,703,425 seconds

14,828,392 minutes

10,297 days

1,471 weeks

339 months

or 28 years

With the 2012 NFL Draft a few weeks away we feel that it is just as important to look at what has been done to know what needs to be done. We will start at 2007 and move forward throughout the week. So, without further adieu here is the Oakland Raiders 2007 draft class:

  • Round 1. Jamarcus Russell
  • Round 2. Zach Miller
  • Round 3. Quentin Moses, Mario Henderson, Johnnie Lee Higgins
  • Round 4. Michael Bush, John Bowie
  • Round 5. Jay Richardson, Eric Frampton
  • Round 6. Oren Oneal
  • Round 7. Johnathan Holland.

After the jump we’ll have a break down of where every one is now Click here to read the rest of this entry »

With the NFL Draft now only a few weeks away, the Oakland Raiders have been preparing to draft the fastest player left on the board with their first pick (in the third round).

We at RaidersTalk have been heavily researching the 2012 NFL Draft class (by Googling Best forty yard dash times daily) to try to accurately predict who are the best prospects for Oakland.  Here are our top five players:

1. Josh Robinson.

Robinson ran a 4.33 forty-yard-dash at the NFL’s scouting combine (which was the fastest) and played cornerback at Central Florida during his collegiate playing days.  Robinson is currently projected to be a third round pick so the Raiders may be able to grab him at 95th overall.

2. Travis Benjamin.

Benjamin ran the second-fastest forty-time at the NFL’s scouting combine at 4.36 seconds and played wide receiver in Miami.  The Raiders love fast receivers and have been looking for a game-changer at the position since Javon Walker left in 2009.  Click here to read the rest of this entry »

#94 Jarvis Moss & #51 Aaron Curry pictured playing for the Oakland Raider, 2011.

Oakland made quiet moves to bolster their linebacking corp over the last two years, in this article we will explore which is the best.  Drafting Rolando McClain in the first round certainly helped the beleaguered Silver and Black defense, but it was the addition of two cast offs that have the Raiders poised to be contenders in 2012.  First, there was the ultimate cut day steal of former 1st round pick Jarvis Moss from the Broncos.  Moss had given Denver three and half years of loyalty to only be given walking papers by the Broncos front office.  How could a team give up on a guy who averaged 8 sacks a season at the University of Florida?  Sure Moss has struggled some since starting in the NFL, but the man has nearly doubled his season sack average since moving to the correct side of the AFC West.

Love stealing a former 17th overall pick from a Division Rival?  How about bamboozling a former division rival for a 4th overall pick?  When Oakland traded a 7th rounder and a conditional 2013 pick to the Seahawks for Wake Forest standout Aaron Curry things got real beside the bay.  No one can deny the potential potency of combining 1450 points in draft point value to create the ultimate backing group
