Denver Broncos blog, news and rumors

Thanks Jim Rome, if that is your real name.

If you didn’t happen to be tuned into Mile High Sports Radio AM1510 or like me fall outside of the listening area you might have missed the station’s review of the Broncos 2012-13 official schedule.  Peter Burns brought in his long time “special guest” Jim Rome to go over game by game the Broncos opposition for the coming year.

You can listen to the audio here.

Rome goes on to say that Denver doesn’t even get a win over the Browns or the Raiders by year’s end.  One fun little catch, Burns brought on a Jim Rome impersonator (a pretty good one I might add) that directed angry callers to the official Jim Rome show.   Trololololol.  Well done Pete and faux Jim Rome, I might have raged into a bridge embankment had I heard that while driving.

The Denver Broncos‘ new players have been working with the equipment staff to select new numbers for the 2012 season.  As of Wednesday, fourteen players have finalized their jersey numbers.

Notable players/numbers:

WR Brandon Stokley — No. 14.

CB Tracy Porter — No. 29.

DT Justin Bannan — No. 97.

You can see the complete list on DenverBroncos.com.  Interestingly, two players — tight end Jacob Tamme and safety Mike Adams — have yet to be assigned numbers.

In Cleveland, Adams wore No. 20 with the Browns and if free agent safety Brian Dawkins retires, he will presumably wear the same number in Denver.  The team is waiting for Dawkins’ decision before giving away his number.

Dawkins (38, 6-0, 210), is healthy again and open to returning this season.  Dawkins said last month that he will make whatever decision is best for him and his family and did not give a timetable for his decision.

We would love to see Dawkins back on the field this season.  Quarterback Peyton Manning puts Denver in Super Bowl contention, and Dawkins does not have a ring to go along with his Hall of Fame resume.

As you probably expected, it’s 16 games. Eight at home, eight on the road. But what lies beyond — and what are the trends prevalent in each matchup?

Comparing Draft Years | Draft Metrics
Two years ago DRAFTMETRICS published and sold (including several copies to NFL teams) a hard copy version of its draft studies that included a chapter entitled “Are There Good and Bad Draft Years?” The chapter compared draft years by utilizing the number of starts made by each draft class. DRAFTMETRICS concluded that there was significant variation among the results of annual draft classes and quantified that variation through the use of starts by draft class.

The Denver Broncos will kickoff the 2012 NFL season with a home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football, according to multiple reports.  Mile High Sports was one of the first to break the news.

The game, which will be nationally televised by NBC, will presumably take place on Sunday, September 9th.  It will be the first SNF game of the season, four days after the New York Giants host the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday to kickoff the season.

The Broncos’ full schedule will be announced at 5 p.m. (MT) on ESPN and NFL Network.  The team is expected to receive four to five scheduled prime-time games.

Predicting that the Broncos will also face the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots in prime-time this season.  Stay tuned for the full schedule!

I was reading Peter King’s mailbag on my lunch break today and I fell 100% on his side in regards to Demaryius Thomas‘ comments about Tim Tebow last week.  It’s not that I am a fan of Tebow and not Thomas, because that just isn’t true.  I like them both and I really like the upside Demaryius has, but his comments came off as a bit classless to me as it did for King. Of course, those who have always had it in for Tebow rejoiced over Demaryius’ comments, but throwing anyone under the bus who really doesn’t’ deserve it just reflects poorly on your own character. Von Miller on the other hand, shows us fans how to be classy to former teammates.

Anyway, check out Peter King’s response to an email on the subject here: Click here to read the rest of this entry »
