Nate Jackson joined the Denver Broncos originally as a wide receiver via trade from San Francisco in 2003. An undrafted free agent with the 49ers in 2002, Jackson was resigned to the practice squad in 2003 upon his trade to the Broncos and spent 2004 with limited time outside of special teams work. He switched positions to tight end during the team’s 2005 training camp, playing in two games that season and recording no statistics. In 2006, Jackson played in 11 games and caught five passes. In 2007, he earned his first career start against San Diego, then quickly injured his groin and went on IR. He had caught his first touchdown pass two weeks earlier against Jacksonville.
The Good: Jackson has been a backup and special teamer for a long time for the Broncos, but he has yet to make a significant impact on the field. He has showed bits and pieces of promise, but those have been few and far between. 2007 was his best year, earning his first TD and first start, but even then he immediately injured himself, ending his season.
The Bad: Jackson has never played an entire 16-game season, and has yet to make a large impact on either the offense or special teams. Many fans, including myself, wonder why the Broncos re-signed Nate Jackson to a two-year, two million dollar deal this offseason. His nagging injuries have to be considered a red flag.
Status: Backup. Signed through 2008. I was fairly surprised when the Broncos re-signed him in March. Now I want to see a pay off for Mike Shanahan‘s faith in him. Nate Jackson was born on June 4, 1979, in San Jose, CA.

Denver Broncos home games at INVESCO Field at Mile High will have a new voice throttling the crowds – Alan Roach, who has served the past eight years as the Broncos sideline reporter for 850 KOA-AM. Roach will serve as the team’s new PA announcer starting this year.
From 1995 to 2006, Roach worked in a similar capacity for the Colorado Rockies. Roach replaces Alan Cass, who was the Broncos’ PA announcer since 1988.
Roach will continue to work as a sideline reporter for Denver Broncos away games.
Individual game tickets went on sale over the weekend; be sure to get yours while they’re still available!

Pro Football Weekly has a blip up on their AFC West Rumor mill section about the possibility of Samie Parker not making the team due to the logjam at receiver.
Sources in Denver say Broncos WR Samie Parker needs to carve out a role in the passing game fairly quickly if he wants to make the team. With Brandon Marshall, Keary Colbert, Darrell Jackson, Eddie Royal and Brandon Stokley appearing to be roster locks, Parker could very well be the odd man out by the end of training camp.
As we saw in the daily links, Glenn Martinez may also have trouble securing a roster spot. I think that could be an even greater shame; to cut a player who showed a good bit of improvement last season and was productive on the field in key situations. If you factor in how well Royal is supposedly geling with the Broncos it becomes a tough battle to make the receiving corp this season.
The Broncos match up against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday November 6th was originally scheduled to be an NFL Network exclusive. KWGN (channel 2) in Denver will simulcast the game for Denver area viewers. The showing is slated to be broadcast in high definition. Typically local affiliates have to pay for special rights to an NFL broadcast, KWGN did not disclose terms of their deal with the NFL. In recent games that NFL Network has had exclusive rights to, it has typically negotiated a simulcast in the local markets of the participating teams.
Last season while the Patriots were on their *historic 18-1 run, the NFL Network had exclusive rights to the final regular season game between the Pats and the Giants. Due to overwhelming pressure of fans and a national audience, the league folded and agreed to simulcast on multiple public networks for the first time in decades. This continues a long going feud between the NFL Network and Comcast on carrying the channel in it’s normal package lineup akin to ESPN for viewers. Directv offers the channel within it’s standard package to all customers. After folding on their biggest exclusive game, the NFL Network is looking at merging channels with ESPN Classic.

Denver Broncos first round pick Ryan Clady is a good fit for the team in a number of ways. Not the least of which is his relative silence – something Broncos offensive linemen have practiced with pride for a decade. The soft spoken Clady may not blow you away in an interview, but he’s showing talent on the field, already earning the teammate-dubbed nickname “Sweet Feet.”
Perhaps Ryan Clady prefers doing his talking on another field: the softball field. The Boise State Broncos held a charity offense vs. defense softball game Saturday, and as you might expect, trash talking and hilarity ensued. In fact, Clady was actually ejected from the game.
Hamdan hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning, but that was not the highlight of the third. That honor went to Ryan Clady, a first-round NFL draft pick the Denver Broncos this spring. Clady was tossed from the game by the umpire after arguing a close call at first base. Speedy receiver Austin Pettis beat out the throw to first and Clady came out of the dugout bumping the ump and trying to pull first base out of the ground.
Earlier in the game Clady came out to console Shawn Bingham, who was charged with an error playing first base.
“One of our players just doesn’t know what he’s doing out there,” Clady joked between innings. “If he can’t make it, he’ll just have to be replaced.”
The game was not devoid of trash talk between the two units, which repeatedly taunted each other with often comical and near-tragic results.
I also try to remove pieces of the floor whenever I don’t get my way, to mixed results.

Pro Football Weekly reports that rookie WR Eddie Royal may be a dark horse to win the #2 spot behind Brandon Marshall:
…it largely was believed that Royal would contribute almost purely as a kick returner this season, but those views are beginning to change. Observers of the Broncos’ OTAs say Royal has been inconsistent at times, but his speed and ability to get in and out of breaks quickly have endeared him to the offensive coaching staff
Royal was drafted in the second round out of Virginia Tech. He was considered a reach by most, but if this information turns out to be right, the Broncos could’ve gotten a steal.

- First off we get another lack luster preview of our 2008 Denver Broncos. The Sporting News brings us their camp countdown. All in all a fair assessment. I actually like a media source giving the Broncos some praise for promoting Slowik to take over the defense after the Bates debacle. You’ve gotta give these guys one thing, they actually do their homework unlike our favorite crack network.
- Another good Broncos preview came from Warpaint Illustrated this week. It’s hard to believe a dedicated Chiefs site on scout.com wrote this good of a summary for this year’s Bronco team. Then to have it picked up on the Silver and Black page. It makes me feel kind of “funny” if you know what I mean. “Show us on the Miles doll, show us on the doll.”
- Sports Illustrated did a cool little segment called the Salary Cap Roster Challenge. This is basically a fantasy pick all draft between two sports writers. The catch is that you try to get the most bang for your buck by staying under the league’s $116 million dollar salary cap. Jay Cutler makes second string QB on one guys roster after he broke the bank to take Tom Brady. He followed it up by taking Brandon Marshall as his #2 wideout next to Greg Jennings, fair enough. Not a bad showing Michael Lombardi. Denver CBS affiliate and Bronco Talk sponsor KCNC – CBS4 has landed the contract to air all four Broncos pre-season games this year. Vic Lombardi will handle the pre-game, Gary Miller the play by play, and former Broncos running back Reggie Rivers will take color commentary. To recap Denver’s preseason schedule:
- Saturday August 9th – at Houston
- Saturday August 16th – Dallas
- Friday August 22nd – Green Bay
- Friday August 29th – at Arizona
CBS4 will continue it’s other Broncos specials: All Access, Countdown to Kickoff, John Lynch Live, and the Mike Shanahan Show. As for us Colorado Springs and Pueblo viewers, I’m sure the airing will be piped in with poor quality on either NBC affiliate KOAA or CBS affiliate KKTV once again.

Darrell Jackson joined the Denver Broncos as an unrestricted free agent in April 2008, signing a one year deal most speculate reflects his intentions to reassert his value on the open market. It could also reflect the team’s hesitance to commit to a long term deal. The Broncos have had success with these deals in the recent past, signing both Montrae Holland and Brandon Stokley to one-year deals in 2007, only to turn around and offer them long term contract extensions before they hit free agency. Providing insurance at a valuable position while trying out a productive veteran, the Broncos and Jackson are both betting on each other to help the other out in 2008.
The Good: Outside of two seasons, Jackson has been a productive wide receiver at the NFL level. 2007 and 2005 saw him fall short of 500 yards (due to poor circumstances and injury, respectively). In his other six seasons in the NFL, Jackson has always put up good numbers, eclipsing 1,000 yards three times. Jackson is a prototypical West Coast Offense receiver – great for the short yardage game and yards after the catch. He has good hands, and many speculate that, with a return to this system (and out of a troubled quarterback situation in San Francisco last year), Jackson can return to being a great wide receiver.
The Bad: Jackson has been hampered with various injuries for much of the past few years – the last time he started or played in 16 games was in 2004. So durability is a concern. Jackson’s hands have always been his strength, even in Seattle (whose wide receivers were a bit notorious for dropping passes). Last year, he had a case of the drops for the Niners. No on’e sure if his best years are behind him or if he’ll return to form.
Status: Competing for starting job. Signed through 2008. The Broncos are hoping Keary Colbert will step into the #2 role, but Jackson can easily prove he’s worthy of the spot in Colbert’s stead. Darrell Jackson was born on Dec. 6, 1978, in Dayton, Ohio.
