May 1st, 1999, four screenwriters were credited with a screenplay which would be the final draft turned in prior to the shooting script. The four men were: Jamie Williams, Richard Weiner, John Logan and Alexander Payne. Logan went on to write such films as the The Last Samurai, The Aviator, Sweeny Todd, and the still to be released (yet will be Oscar nominated, get your cheat charts out now), Lincoln. Payne would go on to direct a small indy film and win an Oscar, the film was called, Sideways, some may know him better for his Adam Sandler film, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
The incredible amount of talent pumped their collective talent into one film though. That film eventually was directed by the great Oliver Stone and became known as Any Given Sunday a film that currently rests in my personal top ten greatest movies of all time list.Â
As you know, Any Given Sunday starred (amongst others): Al Pacino, Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz. A bit of an interesting side-note, which I have mentioned before, Al Pacino studied, then reinterpreted Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan for his role as coach Tony D’Amato. Pacino studied Shanahan during the Broncos 1998 season, a season in which the Broncos ultimately were Super Bowl Champions.Â

Injury report – New Orleans Saints at Denver Broncos – Sunday, September 21, 2008.
vs.
Broncos (2-0) vs. Saints (1-1)
INVESCO Field at Mile High
Sun, Sep 21, 2008
2:05 PM MDT FOX
The Broncos will be without WR Darrell Jackson and C Tom Nalen for the second consecutive week. Both, along with rookie RB Ryan Torain, are listed as Out on the injury report below. LB Louis Green is listed as Questionable once again, with five other players listed as Probable.
The Saints have six players listed as Out, most noticeably starters WR Marques Colston and SLB Scott Fujita. The big news is that RB Deuce McAllister will play – he’s not even listed on the injury report this week. To this point, the Saints have rushed for a mere 78 yards per game (3.4 yards per rush), dismal numbers that the Saints hope McAllister’s return will increase.

Denver Broncos Head coach Mike Shanahan is the Motorola NFL Coach of the Week for games played on September 14-15, the NFL announced today.
Shanahan led a Broncos team that stunned the San Diego Chargers in a last-minute 39-38 victory. The Broncos offense gained a total 486 yards led by QB Jay Cutler who passed for a career-best 350 yards and four touchdowns. WR Brandon Marshall was Cutler’s favorite target completing 18 receptions for 166 yards and one touchdown. With the Broncos down by one, following Cutler’s final touchdown completion to rookie WR Eddie Royal, Shanahan went for the two-point conversion. Cutler hit Royal over the middle to seal the victory. The Broncos defense forced one turnover and limited the Chargers to just 80 rushing yards.
Shanahan was selected as Motorola NFL Coach of the Week from among three finalists by voters on NFL.com. The other finalists were head coaches Dick Jauron of the Buffalo Bills and Jim Zorn of the Washington Redskins.
In January, voting will be held on NFL.com to determine the Motorola NFL Coach of the Year.
Does that even look right? Come on… We all know how John Lynch left, with fans of the Denver Broncos confused and shocked, ultimately ending up with just a bad taste in their mouths. Then Lynch signed with the (at the time) shoe-in Superbowl contender New England Patriots. Was he interested in having a shot at starting this season or was he interested in just getting back to a Superbowl, had the fans been had?
I was at his first game as a Patriot, it was against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was introduced as the starting strong safety during that preseason contest, to which the crowd gave a standing ovation, yet he didn’t start. In his first week with the Patriots he did play, but in all honesty looked very lost. Running around, attempting to do his best inside of a system he had yet to learn.
This week the Broncos worked out three safeties in practice. Glenn Earl, Vernon Fox and Daren Stone, of the three Earl is the only one who has had significant starting experience starting for the Houston Texans from 2004-06. The thing to keep in mind is that all of these players were brought in, as Denver sits with not one, but two safeties on their practice squad (rookie Josh Barrett and Roderick Rogers).
So what gives? As it stands, Denver remains with four safeties on their active roster, but with Hamza Abdullah and Marquand Manuel both having lingering injuries, is it all that likely that John Lynch couldn’t come back welcomed in Denver with a chance to start? At the very least, he remains a supporter of the Darrent Williams Foundation and a positive contributor to the community. Let’s get him back in orange and blue and hopefully back to Tampa.
Double Jeopardy is defined as being tried for the same crime twice. In the United States a person is protected under the 5th amendment:Â
“[T]he Double Jeopardy Clause protects against three distinct abuses: [1] a second prosecution for the same offense after acquittal; [2] a second prosecution for the same offense after conviction; and [3] multiple punishments for the same offense.’ U.S. v. Halper, 490 U.S. 435, 440 (1989).“
One thing is becoming very clear – in the National Football League, there is no such thing as Double Jeopardy. As a matter of fact, as the NFL and newly crowned commissioner Roger Goodell have proven, the league isn’t even interested in waiting until a crime has been proven in the court room. Goodell is the lone judge and jury.
Updating an earlier post, ‘Marshall in More Hot Water?‘ by Kyle this morning. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello has said that the NFL is aware of the charges and that,Â
“We have been aware of these potential charges,” Aiello said. “We will continue to monitor the case and review it under our policy as appropriate.“

Bold entries indicate changes from Wednesday’s practice report.
Thoughts: C Tom Nalen‘s 2008 debut will have to wait at least another week, if it happens at all. Is this the end for #66?… Saints DT Brian Young was not listed on Wednesday. CB Randall Gay was incorrectly listed with an illness instead of a hamstring Wednesday.
Surprise! Bush goes #2 in the 2006 draft.

Denver Broncos Head Coach Mike Shanahan and Quarterback Jay Cutler answer questions during Wednesday’s press conference. I’ve also included Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall‘s teleconference transcript. A lot of interesting nuggets in here – definitely recommend the read. Enjoy!
HEAD COACH MIKE SHANAHAN
On the Saints’ offense compared to what the Broncos have seen this year
“They are a little different form the Raiders. The Raiders were more of a four-man front—four down linemen; mostly an eight-man front. You take a look at the Chargers, a 3-4 team with a variation of coverages. This is a four-man front that uses all of the different coverages that you would see in a season. Thy mix it up pretty well, a lot of two-deep, quarters, man-free, zone blitzes. They keep you pretty much off balance.â€
On developing young wide receivers
“I guess if you’re looking for track records, I’m not very good with wide receivers. We won’t get into that, but fortunately the last couple have been pretty good. Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal, obviously, we are doing very well with. With the addition of a guy like (WR Brandon) Stokley—he has really helped us.â€
On QB Jay Cutler’s evolution from last year to this year
“Normally, you have to have a quarterback that really wants to get better, that enjoys football, that studies the game, that wants to work out in the offseason, that wants to look at film in the offseason, that wants to study film of different quarterbacks on different teams, trying to get better, trying to get to the next level. If you do that, you have a chance in the National Football League. Obviously there are a lot of variables. You have to have a good supporting cast as well. But I think that’s what Jay has done. He has given himself a chance to improve, get better. (He has) a lot of confidence, which goes hand-in-hand with a lot of work.â€

Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall, fresh off a one-game suspension and a killer 18-reception performance in his Week Two debut, may still have consequences to face from his earlier incidents.
CompleteColorado.com is reporting that authorities in Fulton County, Georgia are now pursuing charges stemming from a domestic dispute between Marshall and his then-girlfriend Rasheeda Watley that took place in March of this year. Again, it’s important to note that Marshall has not committed any new crimes – these charges stem from the previous incident.
The details of Marshall’s suspension are not known. He just pleaded guilty to DWAI from an earlier incident, and now charges are being filed for another incident. Does this affect his suspension? We hope not, but who knows? PFT points out that a trial date would likely be in November or December, and the Broncos are headed to Atlanta to play the Falcons on November 16.
