ESPN’s Todd McShay is reporting that he has inside sources saying that Denver is not interested in packaging together multiple picks to move up in this year’s draft to select USC QB Mark Sanchez. This being reported very shortly after GM Brian Xanders and Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy visited Los Angeles to workout Sanchez at his former high school. The duo had Mark run through an inpromtu Xs and Os study, breaking down gameday situations along with throwing to a group of receivers who showed up for the workout as a favor to Sanchez.
Update: According to ESPN; McDaniels had been struggling with migraines over the course of Monday night. Xanders and McCoy ran Sanchez through writing out plays on a board for about 45 minutes and then broke down what if scenarios in certain situations. Afterwords they had the QB take it outside where the threw close to 90 balls for the scouting team.
The Denver Post is reporting that Josh McDaniels become ill in the middle of Monday evening and did not travel to Los Angeles this morning to make the Mark Sanchez scouting trip at the quarterback’s former high school. The NFL rumor sites are abuzz playing this as something more than the head coach being sick, but no word on whether there is reason to believe that is the case. McDaniels was expected however to be at the Broncos headquarters today. The team scrambled to book offensive coordinator Mike McCoy to join GM Brian Xanders on the trip.

Josh McDaniels has made quite the noise with signings and with the league as a whole. I’m definitely not going to beat a dead horse with the repeating the Jay Cutler story. There are a few ways to sum up Denver’s situation, to be obvious, the defense really needs to be improved. Hiring Mike Nolan as a defensive coordinator was a step in the right direction, unless you’re Woody Paige. Here’s the needs broken down:
Wide Receiver Depth
If McDaniels had it his way, the receiving line up would look like this,
Brandon Marshall =Â Randy Moss
Eddie Royal =Â Wes Welker
Jabar Gaffney = Jabar Gaffney
Thank god McDaniels signed Jabar Gaffney. Gaffney will bring in experience from the system to help smooth the offensive playbook change. If indeed Brandon finds himself with a lengthy suspension, which doesn’t seem to happening, look for Gaffney to see a lot more balls thrown his way. Gaffney and Royal won’t be able to go it completely alone, Brandon Stokley is running up in age, and don’t expect much receiving wise from the tight ends in McDaniels’ system. Depth at this position will be needed seeing how Brandon loves wearing metal bracelets attached to each wrist. Despite the comparison to Randy Moss, Marshall will most likely see a hybrid of plays. Some receptions will be use his brute force, and others will use his size to catch the deep ball. Royal lined up extensively at the slot position during training camp, so it does seem that McDaniels wants to bring out the Welker in him.
Fun Fact: Jabar Gaffney’s father, Derrick Gaffney, player receiver for the Jets and Jabar is also cousins with newly signed Jets corner Lito Sheppard. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

As draft day approaches, BroncoTalk will be giving you game tape highlights of some of the bigger (and smaller) names around the draft. We’re sticking with offense in this post, here is Georgia Bulldog RB Knowshon Moreno. Moreno is considered to be one of the top two runningbacks available in the draft by many experts and is expected to be the first RB taken mid to late first round.
The Denver Broncos 2009 schedule has been announced! This Broncos schedule is tough, with the team set to play the previous six Super Bowl winners. The Broncos’ schedule opens on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, before the Broncos are set to play two Monday Night Football games (as well as the previously announced Thanksgiving prime time game), and are not scheduled to play in any Sunday Night games, although this could change with flex scheduling. Their bye is in Week 7. Schedule below!
