BroncoTalk Game Balls

When the Broncos win, we give out Game Balls. And win they did in Week 2 — Broncos 31, Seahawks 14. Alright gentlemen, who ya got?!

Demaryius ThomasDemaryius Thomas
The rook stepped up big in his first game ever, finishing with eight catches for 97 yards and a touchdown. Kyle Orton definitely had some trust in him because he sought him out on a couple of third downs. Its great to have a guy who is able to convert a third and 14. If Thomas can continue to play like this, then maybe the next 4 games won’t be so bad. – Mr. East

Thought the O Line gave great pass protection to Kyle all day long. The line also got some good push on short yardage situations when it was needed, ex. Buck’s TD, (Moreno’s ups didn’t hurt either). Ryan Clady may be the star, but the rookie center is now the anchor of this young unit. – J. Kenneth K. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Kyle Orton is on an epic, unheard-of hot streak. And if you get your Broncos news from the national media, it’ll remain unheard-of (both SI’s Peter King and Yahoo’s Michael Silver make absolutely no mention of the Broncos in their Monday NFL columns).

But MaxDenver.com’s Andrew Mason breaks down Orton’s impressive pace

4,816: Season passing yardage that Orton is on pace to achieve after two games. Going back to Week 17 of last year, Orton has averaged 344.3 yards in his last three games. Prior to this stretch, he had never averaged more than 300 yards per game for any three-game period of his career; his best three-game average before now came between Weeks 4-6 of last year, when he averaged 267.3 yards per game. The Broncos won all three games.

Broncos PR gent Patrick Smyth adds that Orton leads the NFL in both passing yards (1,033) and 25-yard passes (12) in that three-week span that includes Week 17 of last year.

Orton is silencing his critics and returning to the form that made him a dark horse MVP candidate through six games a year ago — only better. With the emergence of at least four starting-caliber wide receivers, how far can Kyle take these Broncos?

Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey was seen leaving the locker room on crutches following the Broncos’ 31-14 win over the Seattle Seahawks Sunday.

Bailey, who intercepted Matt Hasselbeck in the first quarter with a high-leaping red zone catch, told CBS4’s Vic Lombardi that the crutches were merely “precautionary.”

Bailey’s backup, Perrish Cox, also hauled in an interception late in the fourth quarter, but with the Indianapolis ColtsPeyton Manning coming into town next week, the Broncos’ secondary can’t afford to be at anything less than full strength. Hopefully Champ’s self-diagnosis is accurate and the future Hall of Famer is ready to go this week.

The Denver Broncos‘ second big rookie debut in as many weeks wasn’t as hungered for, but was much more satisfying.

Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas reminded the masses why he was selected three spots ahead of superstar teammate Tim Tebow Sunday, exploding onto the scene at INVESCO Field at Mile High with nine catches for 97 yards and a touchdown to lead the Broncos over the Seattle Seahawks 31-14.

Thomas led a dominant offensive effort that was supported by a 14 of 20 mark on third downs and four Broncos takeaways.

Wow! Couldn’t have been more off last week, but who can predict two Ryan McBeans, one Correll Buckhalter and some interesting Winks. Not me, that’s for sure. I came up a little short on my 28-10 (Broncos) prediction last week, but there was at least one of you who got it correct in the comments section.

However, I was on point with my August prediction that Tim Tebow would play in the game against Jacksonville (three for three on my bold predictions). It’s growing pains with him, don’t think that Denver would have those same results in a year or two with the same play with Tebow. McDaniels just has to figure out which situation it works in.

Might I suggest letting Tebow play pure quarterback and then allowing a decision on running from that position, instead of just a pure run call?

(Predictions after the jump).

Hey Friends! BroncoTalk Fam, what is going on?

How’s everyone doing? Feeling antsy like me? Counting down the hours until we get a bit of redemption?

Wait, wait…let me guess.
Anyone worried about the possibility of a 0-2 start?

What would be the first 0-2 start since 1999, when Griese was under center and Olandis Gary was carrying the rock. We went 6-10 that season. We had also just won back2back Super Bowls, so big whoop if we lost a few games.

It’s safe to say the temperature has recently changed, figuratively and literally, I suppose. Thirty-two wins & thirty-two losses over the last 4 years, a tornado of bull crappenings, the new great definition of NFL mediocrity, wouldn’t you say? Maybe it’s time for #15 to call in some favors from the big man upstairs.

But this is no news, I am no prophet, just a guy who likes a football team. Don’t shoot the pessimist. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

The NFL’s biggest joke of a fanbase has been teetering on the edge of blackouts week-to-week for years. They’ll start the 2010 season in a free-fall.

The San Diego Chargers‘ home opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars will be blacked out this week after the Chargers fell 7,000 tickets short of a sellout. What’s more, their next home game against the Arizona Cardinals is also 12,000 short of a sellout.

This for a team with a 67-29 record (.70 winning percentage) since 2004.

And for as much schadenfreude as Broncos fans might enjoy in these developments, Yahoo! Shutdown Corner editor and longtime Chargers fan MJD says it best.

It’s inexcusable. If the Chargers were perennially awful (something that would not be all together unfamiliar to Chargers fans), it would be one thing, but how much success does a team need to have before people can be bothered to go see them? If you live in San Diego and refer to yourself as a Chargers fan, you can go ahead and spend your Sunday detailing Gilbert (Brown)’s loincloth.

We certainly can’t think of anything more worthwhile for Chargers fans this Sunday afternoon.
