Tebow

Earlier this month, ESPN aired Tim Tebow‘s documentary: “Everything In Between.”  The one hour production followed Tebow from last years Senior Bowl up to the 2010 NFL Draft.  In case you missed it the first time around, or just want to watch it again (and again, and again, and again), we’ve got it — courtesy of YouTube user MHFxx1.

Below is part one of five, to watch the other four, go here.

In the coming weeks and months leading up to the 2011 NFL Draft, you’ll see plenty of mocks and predictions on who the Broncos should pick. This isn’t one of them. This is a fan trying to make a case for a player, or rather, for a position.

Pick Six Heisman Worthy Football

This week is Senior Bowl week, a time when NFL coaches and players get a chance to meet with some of the top college players in the country and watch them play live.  The Denver Broncos currently have only one scheduled meeting (known of), and that is with LSU star cornerback Patrick Peterson.

This blogger loves Peterson and would love if Denver drafted him, while at the same time questioning if it is the right pick.

In 2009, the Cleveland Browns‘ defense ranked 31st, the second worst defense in the NFL that season.  Heading into last April, their defense needed some serious help.  The team selected Florida star corner Joe Haden with the 7th overall pick.  While Haden had a solid rookie campaign, the Browns defense didn’t fair quite so well.  Last season, Cleveland’s defense ranked 22nd overall, with the 18th best secondary and 27th worst best run defense.

Another team that was looking to rebuild its defense through the draft last season, the Detroit Lions drafted Ndamkukong Suh.  The former Nebraska standout helped the Lions defense go from dead last in 2009 to ranking 21st overall last season.

A year prior to the above mentioned NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers held the 9th overall selection.  Looking for help on the defensive line, Green Bay drafted tackle B.J. Raji out of Boston College.  Five picks later, the New Orleans Saints selected Ohio’s Malcolm Jenkins, one of the most scouted corners in 2009.  The Packers defense ranked third in 2010, with Raji starting all sixteen games while recording 6.5 sacks.  The Saints ranked 10th, with Jenkins contributing (now as a free safety), but he hasn’t had the impact Raji has over the past two seasons. Bailey

On Thursday, Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey was notified by the NFL that he has been added to the 2011 AFC Pro Bowl roster.

He’ll replace Oakland’s Nnamdi Asomugha, who won’t be playing due to health concerns.

This marks Bailey’s 10th selection in a 12-year span — Bailey now holds the most Pro Bowl selections by a cornerback in the history of the game, passing former cornerback Mike Haynes.

A member of the All Decade 2000’s team, Bailey started in 15 games last season, recording 45 tackles, a sack, 2 interceptions and 13 passes defended.  He ranks sixth all time on the team interception list (with 30) and his 48 career interceptions rank first among all cornerbacks since his rookie season in 1999. The Denver Broncos now completed coaching staff is in Mobile this week for the Senior Bowl, scouting players that will be available in this April’s draft.

Vice President of Football Operations John Elway, Head Coach John Fox and Denver’s scouts have been attending practice all week.

“I feel good about what we’ve gotten done already here,” Elway told the Denver Post on Tuesday afternoon as the South team wrapped up its practice. “We’ve already seen a lot of people.”

Meanwhile, wide receiver Brandon Lloyd is down in Hawaii catching some waves and preparing to play in the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Yesterday we talked about Patrick Peterson at the Senior Bowl.  Unfortunately, Peterson is a junior so we didn’t get to see him display his skills. However this doesn’t mean as Bronco fans we turn off our televisions or wi-fi. The Senior Bowl always provides a myriad of talent and future pro-bowlers. Below is a list of players I’m interested in seeing:

1. Cameron Jordan, DT, UCLA

Height/Weight: 6’4 – 287
Background: The son of Steve Jordan, a former tight end and six time pro-bowler for the Vikings.
Pros: Cam Jordan is a powerful, smart, and extremely versatile for a defensive tackle, he can play in the 3-4 or 4-3.
Cons: Jordan isn’t the fastest player on the line, and he served a one game suspension for in 2008 for the suspicion of driving under the influence.
Quote: “I’m a defensive lineman, a Sam backer, I’m whatever you need me to be,” Jordan said. “I can play the safety position, I don’t care. I like my hand being on the ground, I like being able to hit someone every play. Run after the running back, quarterback, I don’t care. If they have the ball, I’m going after him.” Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Soaking up some sun and hanging ten in Hawaii, Pro Bowler Brandon Lloyd took some time out of his day in paradise to talk Broncos with Lee Rasizer of CBS Sports.

Admitting he’s only speculating, Lloyd said he sees the Broncos “making a move” at quarterback, with Kyle Orton likely starting somewhere else in 2011.

“I feel Orton’s proven and deserves a long-term contract,” Lloyd said. “He needs to get it where he can get it, whether it’s with the Broncos or with another team.”

The Broncos won’t all-out admit it, but there’s enough columnist cohesion that Tim Tebow is the guy in 2011 and beyond to suggest someone — maybe even John Elway or John Fox — has gone off-the-record and said just that. Even Orton’s favorite target in 2010 knows it.

When someone who has every reason to back up Kyle Orton begins speculating on Orton’s departure in Denver, the writing’s on the wall.  The Broncos will be led by Tim Tebow in 2011.

The Denver Broncos announced two more coaches on Thursday morning, completing Head Coach John Fox’s 2011 coaching staff.

The club named Keith Burns assistant special teams coach and Sam Garnes assistant secondary coach.

Coaching with the Carolina Panthers last season, Garnes played seven seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants and Jets.  A former special teams standout for the Broncos, Burns won two Super Bowls with Denver during his eleven years with the team as a player.  He now enters his fifth year with the team as a coach.

Six years. Six different defensive coordinators.

Zero playoff appearances.

Dennis Allen has accepted the most dangerous coaching job in the NFL: Denver Broncos defensive coordinator.

Larry Coyer, Jim Bates, Bob Slowik, Mike Nolan, and Wink Martindale didn’t get another year to fix their mistakes. For one reason or another (Coyer was fired after several years as DC; Nolan left; the rest were one-and-done), the position of Broncos D.C. is more fluid and unpredictable than a Tim Tebow red zone scramble.

And the Broncos’ defense has gone from bad to worse.

That is why it is absolutely imperative the Broncos do everything in their power to retain Allen in 2012. Hiring a new defensive coordinator every year isn’t just shooting themselves in the foot; it’s shooting themselves in the face.  Click here to read the rest of this entry »
