Is Marcell Dareus Denver-bound? (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

Personally, I’ve never been a big fan of mock drafts because (a) after the first 10 picks it’s hard to predict who will pick who, which in effect makes it nearly impossible to predict who will be available where, and (b) because it is absolutely impossible to foresee and predict draft day trades.

Thus, this is less of a Mock Draft than it is a Dream Draft, with no trades involved.

Round 1, second overall pick:  Marcell Dareus, Alabama defensive tackle.  Anyone who has read BroncoTalk over the past few weeks would know that I am a fan of Dareus and think he is the best defensive tackle in this years draft.  With defensive tackle being Denver’s biggest need, the 6′3, 319 pound Dareus makes the most sense. [Video Highlights]

Round 2, thirty-sixth overall pick:  Stephen Paea, Oregon State defensive tackle.  If he falls out of the first round Denver would be wise to snatch Paea in the second.  After a great combine though, Paea’s stock is rising and it may be wishful thinking that he won’t be selected in the first round.  Click here to read the rest of this entry »

This week in Dove Valley, thirteen of Denver’s thirty allotted draft prospects are scheduled to meet with the Broncos’ top brass.

The meetings will give Coach John Fox a chance to get to know the players better and decide if they would be a good fit for the team and the direction the franchise is headed.

“These visits are an opportunity for us to get to know the prospects better personally and also gauge their football knowledge,” said Broncos Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway over twitter on Monday.

Among the players Denver will be bringing in to the team’s facility this week are Clemson Defensive End Da’Quan Bowers, Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley and Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller (who previously also conducted a private workout with the team).

Two other top defensive draft prospects are; LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson, who has worked out for the team and is scheduled to visit with Denver and Alabama defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, who did not conduct a private workout, but is going to visit Dove Valley.

Either of the five players mentioned above have the potential to contribute to the team’s defense instantly and become a disruptive force to opposing offenses’ for years to come.  Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Broncos Camp Football

Wesley Woodyard (AP Photo/Jack Dempsey)

After many harassing tweets requests from yours truly, Broncos fourth year linebacker and special teamer Wesley Woodyard uploaded his spoof video of safety Brian Dawkins to YouTube!

During Training Camp of the 2010 season, Woodyard, who is quite the character and apparently actor as well, created a video of Brian Dawkins going through his famous pre-game rituals and uploaded it to facebook.  The role of Dawkins is played by Woodyard in the two minute short film.

After being informed that facebook videos cannot be embedded, Wesley agreed to upload the video to YouTube for all Bronco fans to see (Dawkins even gave his blessing).  The video can be seen below, enjoy:

I hope you like creating many haiku (yes, that’s the plural, I Binged it) because I’m starting a series called Heroic Haiku.

Every week I’ll have a new topic to haiku about. If you don’t know how a haiku works, fret not, it’s a three line poem that follows a 5-7-5 syllable structure.

The winner of each week will be enshrined in the Heroic Hall of Haiku.

This week’s topic? Tim Tebow. I’ll kick each article with one of my own.

He sells jerseys fast
Tebow is built to outlast
I wear jockey now.
Mr. East

Do you think you can beat that Tebow fans?

John Elway gave an interview yesterday to Denver’s 104.3 The Fan and in it had more than a few gems.

Elway talked everything from team needs to the draft to why the Denver Broncos may actually take a quarterback in the draft.

Elway began by praising the new head coach of the Denver Broncos John Fox, calling him ‘refreshing for this whole building,’ going on to state that his football wisdom and  energy is tremendous. He went on to mention that it has been great working with Brian Xanders as well.

Now, the good stuff.

The Draft

“Well I think we have to look at that when we get there. I think you always want to get the best player available. But obviously in our situation where we do have some holes, we’ll have to look at that awfully strongly. What we want to do is we want to get a very good base here. Obviously that’s not going to happen in one year, but we’ve got some holes to fill. But we’re not going to get back away and get just an average player if there’s a great player on the board just to fill a need. So we’ll cross that bridge when we get there, but I think that the more great players you can get on the team, the better off you’ll be, and they’re going to make everybody else better. Whether it be talent athletically or leadership-wise.”

Patrick Peterson is the best player available in the draft, he’s not necessarily a need, but undeniably a great player. I do not at this time see Denver passing on Peterson at number two for Marcell Dareus. At least given what we know about Peterson and what we know about Dareus combined with what Elway is saying here. Yes, the Broncos have Champ Bailey, but drafting Peterson puts Denver’s secondary right up there as one of the best in the NFL. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Harvey Steinberg: 3, Anyone else vs. Players on the Denver Broncos: 0 (that is an unofficial score, just off the top of my head and complete sarcasm).

Some good pre-draft news for fans of the Broncos for a change.

Charges that were filed in October 2010 by a parking lot attendant at Invesco Field against Elvis Dumervil for allegedly disturbing the peace and assaulting the attendant have been dropped according to his attorney. The Denver Post‘s Mike Klis was first to report.

“He never should have been charged in the first place,” said Steinberg. “And the press coverage should be the same not that his case has been dismissed as when he was charged.”

The trial would have began April 5th.

Steinberg is also representing Perish Cox in his upcoming trial.

Great news for fans, in what has been a slow off-season thus far. I think that fans often forget about the fact that Dumervil is still on the roster when convincing themselves that Denver has a terrible front seven.
