The Broncos, amidst battling many injuries, will be bringing several players in for workouts next week. Per NFL Network‘s Jason La Canfora, veteran safety Darren Sharper is among the players Denver will workout.

Sharper could relieve fellow veteran Brian Dawkins — who came out in certain situations Monday — on passing downs for the Broncos.  Sharper would also provide depth to the secondary and has connections to Denver’s coaching staff.

Sharper played under Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen the previous two seasons in New Orleans.  La Canfora however speculates that Sharper will not sign with the team this week, but rather provide an emergency option down the road in case of any injury.

According to the report, the Broncos will also workout a defensive lineman and four running backs, Thomas Clayton among them. Clayton bounced on and off the rosters of the New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns last season before most recently being claimed off waivers by the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks have released Clayton and he worked out for the Miami Dolphins last week, per La Canfora. Clayton appeared in one game last season (with New England) and rushed 6 times for 17 yards. He would provide another option at running back for the Broncos with Knowshon Moreno battling a hamstring injury.

Don’t be surprised if the Broncos make a few roster transactions in the coming days, stay tuned for updates.

CBS4’s Vic Lombardi with a unique, often quickly dismissed idea.

I’m not taking his suggestion seriously, but more red zone opportunities for Tim Tebow, in some package, isn’t a bad idea. At least Vic’s thinking outside the box.

(I could have lived without the “Release the Tebow” reference though. As a BT Facebook commenter put it, he is not the Krakken.)

Knowshon Moreno

Fantasy football and Denver Broncos update: It’s Willis McGahee‘s time to shine.

Starting running back Knowshon Moreno is officially listed as “questionable” on the Denver Broncos injury report against the Cincinnati Bengals. But it doesn’t sound like the coaches truly consider him a 50-50 play.

Practice squad running back Jeremiah Johnson told the Denver Post he has been informed the Broncos will activate him for Sunday’s game, suggesting Moreno won’t go. Johnson, a 2nd-year player out of Oregon, had 16 rushes for 64 yards (4.0 average) in the 2011 preseason.

But don’t consider McGahee a necessary sure-start. The Bengals have a tough front four on defense, and the Broncos’ OL has yet to prove it can get the job done in run blocking, as Denver Post fantasy columnist Cecil Lammey reminds us.

Still, we’d be floored if Moreno suits up Sunday. This does bump up McGahee’s fantasy stock simply being the feature back and gives Broncos fans a better chance to see the return of a Mile High tradition. Lance Ball and Johnson will provide RB support for Denver.

Brandon Lloyd

Signs are good that the Denver Broncos will have at least four wide receivers Sunday now that Brandon Lloyd has returned to practice.

The signs aren’t so good for the remaining seven sidelined Broncos.

Cornerback Champ Bailey, defensive end Elvis Dumervil, linebacker D.J. Williams, defensive tackles Marcus Thomas and Ty Warren, running back Knowshon Moreno, and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas all missed their third practice this week. Defensive tackle Ryan McBean was also absent Friday, his first absence this week. Bailey, Dumervil and Moreno are all suffering from injuries they suffered in their start against the Raiders Monday night. Those three are listed as “day-to-day,” and head coach John Fox wouldn’t rule out the possibility they play Sunday even if they’re not able to practice.

Williams, Warren, and the Thomases are all recuperating from previous injuries and will likely be ruled out for Sunday. No word on McBean; we’ll know more when the Broncos’ official injury is posted later today.

The Ravens may be willing to utilize Tebow's strengths by using him in certain situations or even changing his position. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

Two drafts ago, former Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels traded second (No. 43), third (No. 70) and fourth (No. 114) round picks to the Baltimore Ravens to move up and select Florida quarterback Tim Tebow. One season has passed since that time and the two teams may be considering a swap.

Sports Illustrated’s Peter King (via Sandy Clough of 104.3 The Fan) said on Satellite Radio on Tuesday that he thinks if the Ravens came to the Broncos offering a third round pick for Tebow, that the Broncos would accept it. King also thinks that the Ravens have an interest in Tebow.

Meanwhile, Woody Paige of the Denver Post was on 104.3 The Fan Wednesday talking with Clough, and Paige seems to agree that the Broncos would be willing to deal Tebow before the week six trading deadline.

“If [the Broncos] really want this madness and chaos to end, trade him [speaking of Tebow]. Get rid of him, trade him before the deadline which ends two days after the game in South Florida,” said Paige on Thursday. “If I were John Elway, I would probably make the trade (with Baltimore).”

The Ravens Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron and Head Coach John Harbaugh are certainly not thinking of acquiring Tebow to become their starter (the team has all the faith in the world in Joe Flacco), but the Ravens do have some Wild Cat history Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Ty Warren

The same eight who sat out practice yesterday were sidelined again Thursday as they recover from various ailments, the Denver Post reports.

The walking wounded:

  • Cornerback Champ Bailey (hamstring, day-to-day)
  • Running back Knowshon Moreno (hamstring, day-to-day)
  • Defensive end Elvis Dumervil (shoulder, day-to-day)
  • Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd (groin, day-to-day)
  • Defensive tackle Marcus Thomas (pectoral, unknown)
  • Linebacker D.J. Williams (elbow, unknown)
  • Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas (Achilles/finger, 2-4 weeks)
  • Defensive tackle Ty Warren (triceps, 2-3 months)

Meanwhile, in Ohio, quarterback Andy Dalton made throws in practice and appears to be preparing to play.

The top four Broncos listed have a chance of playing Sunday, but they would have to practice Friday. Stay tuned.

Some Denver Broncos fans feel their calls for Tim Tebow haven’t been heard. So they’ll make them seen, instead.

A thread on the team’s official forums indicates that a group of Broncos fans are planning on purchasing a pair of billboards in the Denver downtown area. The message? “Bench Orton, play Tebow.”

They’re not ponying up the dough yet, though — they’re willing to wait one more week for Kyle Orton to perform. If Orton doesn’t perform well against the Cincinnati Bengals this week, he and the rest of the Broncos will have to look up at Tim Tebow’s face on their commute. From the thread (preemptive sic) —

Me and 7 of my buddies who are all die hard broncos fans have finally raised enough money for 2 downtown denver billboards to read: Bench orton play Tebow w/ a few different on the field photos. We are waiting to see how orton does this week vs the bungals. No we are not timmy fanatics we are true broncos fans for years and years and we are sick of seeing all the excuses for orton. So hopefully by week 3 the billboards will be up!

(UPDATE: The Denver Post interviewed the fans, who say the billboards will cost $10,000. Yowza.)

It’s Week Two, and fans are already resorting to this. Kyle Orton doesn’t need more reasons to play better. Just do it, Kyle.

What are all your thoughts?
