On Friday evening, I was looking at the Broncos depth chart and saw that quarterback Tim Tebow weighs 235 pounds these days.  That’s notable because (a) he has lost weight since his rookie season (236) and (b), he’s a big quarterback.

According to MuscleProdigy.com, Tebow at one time bench pressed 480 pounds.

So I did some research to find:

• Denver’s starting quarterback (Tebow) weighs as much as their starting running back (Willis McGahee).

• Among Denver’s offensive skill players, only the teams two fullbacks and four tight ends weigh more than Tebow.

• Of the 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL, Tebow outweighs all but five of them (Carson Palmer [235], Ben Roethlisberger [241], Joe Flacco [245], Cam Newton [248],  and Josh Freeman [248]).

• In 2005, Tebow — ten pounds lighter than he is today — played defensive tackle in the closing minutes of a High School State Championship, helping Nease defeat Armwood by a score of 44-to-37.

• Tebow outweighs Patriots quarterback Tom Brady by a good eleven pounds, but he doesn’t have a model girlfriend.

• Tebow’s teammates say he benches in the “mid-400’s,” which is impressive.

Needless to say, Tebow is one big, strong dude.  Consider this your daily Tebow update.

I want to encourage everyone in the Denver area to attend a fun, worthwhile Denver Broncos event tomorrow, Saturday, December 17, at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Barrelmania Day 2011 is an event being run by Becky McKernan, the widow of Tim McKernan AKA The Barrel Man. The event is being held inside the office suits of the stadium, in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. More information, including cost ($5 in advance plus a wrapped gift) is available here. There’s also a nice black tie event planned thereafter.

Another week, another award for our beloved Denver Broncos:

“For the fifth time this season, the Broncos have won the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week.  This time, it comes as a result of the Broncos’ come-from-behind, 13-10 overtime victory against the Chicago Bears.

“Trailing 10-0 late in the fourth quarter, Tim Tebow found Demaryius Thomas for a 10-yard touchdown. After the Bears recovered the ensuing onside kick, the defense forced a three-and-out, and the offense had another chance.

“Matt Prater kicked a 59-yard field goal to send the game to overtime, and after the defense forced a fumble, the Broncos drove down the field for the game-winning 51-yarder by Prater.”

After the regular season, fans will have a chance to determine the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Year, from among the 17 weekly winners. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com/GMC throughout the month of January.

Broncos second year quarterback Tim Tebow was wired by NFL Films on Sunday when the Broncos defeated the Chicago Bears 13-10.  Highlights of Tebow mic’d up can be viewed below:

There weren’t any moments as classic as his “there’s only one person that carries the ball right here” quote from last season, but it was certainly entertaining nonetheless.  Here’s hoping for more mic’d up goodness down the road.

Thirty-three years ago, before Bill Belichick was a head coach — or even a defensive coordinator — he was roaming the sidelines in Denver as a defensive assistant coach.

Belichick spent one year of his coaching career with the Broncos in 1978, before climbing the coaching ranks for twenty-two years.  Ultimately becoming New England‘s head coach in 2000, Belichick has emerged as one of the most respected coaches in the league.

In his career, Belichick has faced the Broncos nine times, going 3-6 in those games.  When the Patriots come to Denver on Sunday, it will mark the tenth meetings between the two clubs since 2000.

“Denver’s an impressive team, [they’ve] been doing a great job. John Fox has them playing really well, they have a lot of confidence,” Belichick said on Wednesday.  “They’ve made a lot of key plays at critical times to win a lot of games.”

Speaking of coaches, there is a growing belief that Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will be a head coach somewhere in the NFL within the next few seasons.

Last season, Denver’s defense recorded 23 sacks (32nd), ten interceptions (30th) and ranked 32nd in total yards allowed.  This year, the defense has recorded 37 sacks (4th), nine interceptions (25th) and ranks 23rd in total yards allowed.

Fox has also been in the Coach of the Year discussion this season.  If Fox and McCoy reach as many Super Bowls in Denver as Belichick has in New England, Bronco fans will be extremely fortunate.

Earlier in the month, we talked about quarterback Tim Tebow‘s Pro Bowl worthiness.  Some of you said he was, some said he wasn’t.

Whether he’s worthy or not, it sounds like he will be playing in Hawaii this February:

“In the updated fan vote totals for the Pro Bowl, the Broncos’ Tim Tebow has the third-most tallies among AFC quarterbacks.  This is significant because three quarterbacks are named to the Pro Bowl team.

“According to Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com, New England’s Tom Brady has the most votes among AFC quarterbacks with 1,149,721 million. Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger is second with 745,835. Tebow is third with 420,539 votes,” Mike Klis of the Denver Post wrote on Wednesday.

If Tebow does make it to the Pro Bowl (fellow NFL players and coaches still have to vote), he will likely join rookie linebacker Von Miller, cornerback Champ Bailey, safety Brian Dawkins and possibly punter Britton Colquitt as the five Broncos representing the team in the NFL’s annual All Star Game.

Also worthy of your Pro Bowl votes (in our opinion) are kicker Matt Prater, offensive guard Chris Kuper, receiver Eric Decker and running back Willis McGahee.  Fans can vote for Tebow and his teammates at NFL.com/ProBowl.

In response to the notion of the "SI cover jinx," SI's Jim Trotter said "Tebow and the Broncos were on the cover a few weeks ago and have won (since then)."

• The Denver Broncos on Tuesday signed cornerback Tony Carter to their active roster and waived safety Kyle McCarthy, it was announced.  Also on Tuesday, the Broncos waived/injured linebacker Derek Domino, who was previously on Denver’s injured reserve list.  [Teams Official Blog]

• USA Football has selected Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker to its third annual USA Football All-Fundamentals Team, which honors 26 NFL players – 11 offense, 11 defense, four special teams – who exhibit exemplary football techniques for youth players to emulate.  [Mile High Report]

• Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is featured on this week’s cover of Sports Illustrated, marking the seventh time in his football career that he’s been on the cover of the magazine.  [Team’s Official Blog]
