I’ll admit it. I’m a Justin Tuck fan.

The New York Giants defensive end was a Denver Bronco for a day after the Broncos traded for him in 2006. Ultimately the deal was nullifed after Broncos middle linebacker Al Wilson, the trade compensation for Tuck and a fourth round pick, failed his physical, but since then I’ve always followed Tuck’s career closely.

Since then, he’s thrived. Tuck has gone from a backup’s backup to a playoff-dominating, Super Bowl-excelling monster on that Giants’ defensive line.

In 2008, Tuck had two sacks, a forced fumble, and six tackles against Tom Brady and the Patriots that many felt should have earned him MVP honors.

Yesterday, in my opinion, Tuck one-upped Eli Manning again.

There was a chance — call it even a good chance — that the Denver Broncos would have opened the 2012 NFL season in Foxborough, Massachusetts had the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl last night.

Think about it. Tom Brady vs. Tim Tebow set ratings records earlier this season. Everyone will be eager to see how Tebow progresses after an offseason of focused work as Broncos starting quarterback. Surely the big-wigs at NBC were watering at the mouth at the idea of kicking off 2012 with a rematch between two of the league’s most popular quarterbacks.

Of course, that won’t happen now. The New York Giants won The Big Game, and they’ll open the season on Thursday, September 6th at home, as has been the tradition for the Super Bowl champs for the better part of a decade.

And, unlike the Patriots, the Giants aren’t on the Broncos’ schedule next year.

So the NFL world will have to wait at least one NFL game before Tebowmania takes over again, and the Broncos and Patriots will probably settle for a different primetime matchup in 2012 instead.

For the second time in the last four years, the New York Giants have defeated the New England Patriots to become Super Bowl Champions.  Winning by a score of 21-17, the Giants have now beaten the Patriots four times in their last four meetings with New England.

After punting the ball away on their first possession, New York pinned New England deep in their own territory.  On the next play, Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady was flustered in the end-zone and threw the ball away, resulting in a subsequent intentional grounding penalty and safety.

Really, for as many times as he won the award this season — 5 times in 11 starts — the award should be renamed the Tim Tebow award in the future. Specifically, Tebow won the award for the shocking comeback victory against the Bears. At the time, it seemed impossible, and looking back has not changed how impossible that particular outcome seemed.

The Associated Press voted Von Miller as the Defensive Rookie of the Year and announced this honor at the NFL Honors awards show held in Indianapolis in advance of the Superbowl.

Von Miller tallied 11.5 sacks and was an absolute terror to opposing quarterbacks. If he hadn’t broken his thumb at game 11, he likely could have beaten rookie records for sack totals.

We’ve seen it before. The Patriots walking into the Super Bowl favored to take it all. Eli Manning not getting the respect he deserves despite his clutch plays in the fourth quarter (sound like anyone else we know?).

Yes, David Tyree gave us a forth quarter moment we won’t forget, but last time these teams met for the big prize, the first three quarters fell flat. Fortunately, these teams have evolved in quite different ways. I mean, the Patriots employ the services of Chad Ochocinco. It’s hard to believe Mr. Ochocinco will be playing for a Super Bowl title.

So what will tomorrow have in store for us besides car, beer, and ED pill commercials? Well, to help paint a picture we’ll focus on two player match-ups.
