AFC West

It’s hard to fully appreciate a division title given the way they won it, but they won it nonetheless: the 8-8 Denver Broncos are the 2011 AFC West Champions.

It’s the first division title and playoff berth for the Broncos since 2005. As fourth seed, Denver will host the fifth seed Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4) at home for the first week in the playoffs.

And while we’re all still reeling over the loss to the Chiefs this afternoon, and the way they lost three straight to back into the playoffs, and the way Tim Tebow and company are playing utterly dreadful offensive football, remember that the Broncos were 4-12 only a season ago.

No team in the AFC West more deserved to go to the playoffs than Denver.

I don’t think being scared and “man up” is Tim’s problem.  You might be on to something about relaxing but I am not sure how he is supposed to do that when all he hears 24/7 according to the media reports, is he can’t do this or that and don’t turn the ball over what ever you do.  I agree with Anthony 33’s “self fullfilling” comments.   I am not happy with this coaching staff.  I have concluded that my early comments following the Detriot loss are my most accurate.  Fox can’t put a sentence together.  Did anyone really listen to his post game interview?  When asked why did he not attempt to kick a very makeable fieldgoal at the end of the half, Fox’s response was he didn’t want’t to give up field position in a close ball game.  Now that is a brilliant (sarcasm) answer.  You are losing.  The score is 7 -3.  You get the ball back to start the second half. There is less than a minute left in the half and you have one of the best field goal kickers in the league.  Fox needs to go!    This coaching staff has to put a plan in place that attempts to win.

Newton is far from prototypical. You are also discounting the whole picture. I’m not sticking up for Tebow here either. Just saying there are A LOT of factors behind Dalton and Newton’s success that   keeps them from being comparable to Tebow.

That’s as bad as all the Tebow lovers claiming he is better because he had more wins than Newton. Not comparable.

I’d have taken hosting a play off game at the draft,
I’d have taken hosting a play off game in camp,
I’d have certainly taken it at 1-4,
I’d have taken it after last week
And I’m pleased to be in there now.

This is the FREAKING PLAYOFFS PEOPLE!  Its been way too long since we were last here and lets hope its not as long next time.

Now only one team can win their final game and it doesn’t matter how you got in it – just what you do when you in it.

Read RT’s comment below.  That is where I believe fulfilling our “expectations” should start.  We should attempt to score when we are in field goal range at the end of the half.  Most of us could draw up a game plan at least as good as these guys. How can anyone play for coach that is afraid to kick a field goal at the end of the half for fear of “giving up field position in a close game”.  Unbelievable!

    well said

We can win this game. The Steelers are hurting in key positions.  It should not be difficult to figure out that we have to stop the run. They aren’t going to come out and surprise anyone. Even our coaching staff can figure that out. Now all it will take is an offensive game plan that decides we are in it to win it.  We might have to go for it on 4th and a foot once or twice this game.  We might actually have to attempt to kick a 45 yard field goal with a minute left in the half.  We might, ( I know this might be controversial) we just might have to throw a screen pass or slant on first down once or twice. We might just have to try to do something a little different that the Steelers aren’t expecting.

I agree with Mike.  We are in the playoff’s for gosh sakes. Lets all stop complaining and enjoy the moment. For those who can think of nothing better to do than complain,  why don’t you just turn your sets off and go play golf.  For me, I will have the game on, a big plate of food, and be watching MY TEAM in January host a playoff game!!!!!!!!!! It doesn’t matter how we got there now.  We are there!   There will be plenty of time in February to figure out what needs to be done to improve the team but for now, GO BRONCOS!!!!!

Seems Bronco Moses Tebow is lost in the wilderness again. Will it take 40 years to pull his head out of his asss? Will God chastise him for throwing like a girl? Or will Bronco Moses overcome this adversity and lead his team to the promised land? I don’t know why, but I do know for sure and it is a miracle and I believe! I am a witness! Take all of your life savings and bet on every one of the broncos games. Bronco Moses WILL DELIVER FOR US !!!
Elway who? You believe too so go ahead and Erect a statue of Bronco Moses Today !!

Is the coach fired yet ?  Any coach who ties his QB down and doesn’t allow him to throw…..  That was the most boring game in the history of the NFL !!!  When Tebow had to throw he had no confidence because his coach obviously didn’t want him to throw !  Cut he players loose, let them win or loose, but not allowing a Pro QB to throw the ball for a whole game…. !!!!  Broncos better get a coach if they want to win in the post season !  Show some belief in your QB for heaven sake, let him play, win or loose.  When he’s cut loose, he’s pretty dang exciting….  That game was booooooringgggg, thanks coach !?

Take a step back for a minute people, Wow, surprised I haven’t heard OFF WITH THEIR HEADS yet?

The team as a whole fought hard against a Chiefs team that has been playing well as of late, just ask the Packers about the Chiefs?

I believe the game plan each and every week is to keep the game close enough to have a chance, it just never worked out, the Chiefs were making better plays on defense than our offense was?  In a 7 -3 game we all know it only takes 1 or 2 plays to be on top,the Chiefs made those plays!!! ( Tebow had the ball stripped loose for a turnover).

Yes this was a conservative game plan, this is nothing new, I believe Fox knows his talent pool and works within it. It amazes me how so many of you call for a new coaching staff after getting a new coaching staff just this past year, and they have improved enough to actually host a playoff game?   You tell me what kind of coaching staff would want to come to Denver in the future if Bowlen decided to axe Fox right now????  Good grief!!!

Let the coaches coach, and all you so-called coaches go out and get hired in the Rams or Buc’s organization and then prove to all of these other coaches how it should be done!!

This whole hire Norv Turner move is a crack up, He arguably has one of the top 5 offenses in the league and cannot make the playoffs in most likely the worst division in the AFC if not the whole NFl!!!

    Brilliant!!

Look, is Orton a better passer than Tebow?  Fox chose Orton over Tebow every day. But Orton could not lead this team to wins.
Tebow has lead this team to a playoff game. This staff and team will play next week and we’ll see which team makes the plays?

The Broncos have surprised everyone, enjoy it! I hope for a better year for all of us, especially the Broncos!

Like everyone else, I’m not happy about how they got there. But hey, wouldn’t any of us been more than happy to accept this scenario after week 5? So I’m on board and looking forward to Sunday! Go Broncos!!

  • Danno

Relax.  The Steelers can be beat.  They are beat-up all over.  We will get to Ben.  Rashard sucks as bad as no-show.  Troy never recovered from his knee surgury…  Bottom line is they have their problems too.

  • Dragonborn

I don’t care what everyone says. I am a Broncos fan for life and I cannot wait to get to the stadium Sunday and cheer for our team one more time. The only thing I hope for is that Fox and McCoy get their heads out of their asses and realize that if we are not going to be aggressive and play to win instead of “not to lose” the Steelers are going to #$^#$% us! Hell, nobody expect us to win, not even most people in here so throw it all in the wind and have fun.

Fox and McCoy read this please:
    http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Tim-Tebow-Denver-Broncos-John-Fox-must-have-faith-in-quarterback-010112

We have 4 tight ends, use them. We have running backs that can catch a short pass and run and receivers that can run slant routes and take the pressure of Tebow. Show your imagination because if you do not the biggest question in Denver in the off season should  be who is going to be the next offensive coordinator of the Broncos.

    GO BRONCOS!

  • Dragonborn

That is the spirit VB. I will be in the stadium and I am here to tell you that I will not have any voice left at the end of the game. It has been 6 years brother. Like you said if people do not like it they do not have to watch it.

  • Nursegail2000

It isn’t Tebow just as it wasnt John all those years ago..it is coaching and teamwork.  If Denver fans do not get behind this TEAM when they are down…they don’t deserve to be fans when they win….FOR GOD’S sake they made it to the PLAYOFFS for the first time since 2005!!  We certainly were not headed for that in the first five games now were we…Was it ugly…YES  Did we lose the last three games? YES!!  But what a wild and crazy ride we have been on ….
