Austin Wuebbels is strong. If you don’t believe me, go watch this video, then come back.

That was Wuebbels busting out 43 reps on the 225-pound bench press: a mark that broke the Mizzou school record. He didn’t get a combine invite (he graduated in 2011), but had he, and had he matched that number, it would have been one of the most impressive workout performances at the combine, second only to Kansas City Chiefs first round pick Dontari Poe‘s 44 reps. Outside of the weight room, Wuebbels played mostly right guard at Mizzou and finished his career starting in 39 consecutive games. He was Honorable Mention All Big-12 Football Honors in each of the last two years, as well as a four-time Academic All Big-12 honoree.

Denver Broncos mini-camps are back! A year after the 2011 lockout prevented players and rookies from gathering at team facilities across the NFL, voluntary organized team activities (OTA’s) and mandatory mini-camps make their return to the NFL offseason in 2012.

These practices are closed to the public. We’ll be following the usual Denver media suspects closely during these weeks and passing that coverage along to you.

  • May 11-13 – Rookie mini-camp (mandatory)
  • May 21-23 – OTA’s Week One
  • May 30-June 1 – OTA’s Week Two
  • June 4-7 – OTA’s Week Three
  • June 12-14 – Full-team mini-camp (mandatory)

This is Jay Cutler-to-Brandon Marshall-esque. New Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler and WR Gerell Robinson display incredible chemistry from their days as ASU Sun Devils as Osweiler finds Robinson for 11 catches, 199 yards and a touchdown against the University of Arizona.

Clearly John Elway was happy to bring his newest QB project’s favorite target to Denver.

Steve Johnson wraps up a Kansas State runner for the Jayhawks in 2012. (Mike Gonroe/Kansan.com)

Steven Johnson is all about production. A tackling machine for the Kansas Jayhawks, Johnson led the Big 12 with 124 tackles in 2012 while serving as team captain as a second-year starter at weakside linebacker. He’s a smart, competitive, instinctive player who made his own way as a form walk-on. The consensus on scouting reports suggests, however, that Johnson is limited in his physical abilities. At 6-0, 239, he’s lacking the height, strength, and speed to be a starter at the NFL level, and he lacks the hip fluidity to go against elite NFL ballcarriers or wideouts. His instincts and ability to read blocking schemes could result in immediate special teams contributions, though.

It was reported earlier today that Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs recently tore his Achilles tendon and will miss the 2012 season.  Suggs responded:  Not so fast.

Suggs, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, told Ravens Insider Aaron Wilson that he would “definitely” be back on the field by the beginning of December, if not sooner.  A quick look at the Denver Broncos‘ 2012 schedule shows that the Broncos will take on the Ravens in Baltimore on December 16th.

Unfortunately for the Broncos, Suggs, who recorded 14 sacks, two interceptions and forced seven fumbles last season, expects to be back in time for Baltimore’s Week 15 match against Denver.  The Broncos haven’t beaten Baltimore on the road since the Ravens came into existence in 1996 (0-5).

Since 1971, the AP Defensive Player of the Year award has been won multiple times by seven different players, with linebacker Lawrence Taylor being the only defender to ever win the award in back-to-back years (1981, 1982).  Suggs’ chances of winning the award in consecutive seasons seem to have diminished, but Denver’s Von Miller could be primed to win his second defensive AP award in only his second season.

Miller won Defensive Rookie of the Year honors for his 2011 performance and will be looking to build on his 64 tackle, 11.5 sack season.  With Suggs unlikely to repeat DPOY honors, Miller will be looking to emulate Taylor’s early ’80s performance.

Gerell Robinson

New Denver Broncos draftee QB Brock Osweiler and undrafted signee WR Gerell Robinson, both former ASU Sundevils, already have a history of connecting on the football field. They hope to continue that history on future Sundays as Broncos, but in the meantime, they’ll continue connecting on weekdays.

Even if NFL rules prohibit them from doing it in Denver.

Osweiler and Robinson have been working out in sunny AZ while Broncos veterans gather at Dove Valley, Osweiler tweeted Wednesday. NFL rookies can’t work out at team facilities until the teams’ rookie mini-camps that take place later this month.

Love it. It’ll likely be years before Osweiler and Robinson can #leavetheirlegacy, but it appears they’re already taking lessons from Peyton Manning — hard work now pays dividends later.
