Denver Broncos blog, news and rumors

Apparently Tim Tebow could not deal with the psychological trauma of having his identity being ripped away by his master, so he took it out on his dog in similar fashion.

Poor puppy. Is it football season yet?

Wayne Tribue in 2011

Temple guard Wayne Tribue, seen here in 2011, has a degree in biochemistry.

Pos: Guard

Class: Senior
Ht: 6’3″ Wt: 329 lbs.
40-time: 5.06 Bench: 28

Wayne Tribue will probably be alright if this whole “NFL thing” doesn’t work out. This 329-lb guard is far from the stereotypical football meathead.

Wayne Tribue has been studying to be a doctor.

“I took the MCATs about a month ago, so we’ll see,” Tribue told reporters last September. “That’s an option, but hopefully I’ll still be playing football.” Maybe he can play double-duty as the team’s medical trainer in 2012.

A veteran of four seasons at all three interior OL positions, Tribue found a home at right guard in 2011 and started there the entire season for the Owls. Before that, he moved around Temple’s interior OL, often splitting work between left guard and center in his four-year career. NFP called him “one of the most underrated offensive guard prospects in the nation” and raved about his quick initial step and willingness to finish in all aspects of his game.

Denver Broncos News

Rich Gannon knows well the challenges Manning faces | Yahoo! Sports
Peyton Manning has always been a split-second ahead – of the pass rush, of the opposing coordinator, even of his own receivers. Perhaps never in the history of the NFL has there been a quarterback as in tune with his surroundings as Manning was with the Indianapolis Colts. There was no static in the channel, no delayed reaction, no pause of uncertainty.

Elliot Coffey was RGIII’s counterpart, the “quarterback of the defense” as middle linebacker for the Baylor Bears in 2011, and you can tell from this video the two have a certain… rapport. His move from outside linebacker to Mike in 2011 was fortuitous, and Coffey, being the natural leader that he is, had no qualms helping his teammates adjust to their new positions while finding the time to adjust to his own. Coffey earned All-Big 12 honors in 2011 and was named the 2011 Alamo Bowl Defensive MVP; he also won Big 12 Player of the Week honors in 2011 for his performance against Kansas, in which he had a monster game tallying 10 tackles, a tackle for loss, and two interceptions. You can read more about his impressive senior season here.

Drayton Florence is a solid cornerback who started 45 games in the past three seasons for the Buffalo Bills. In production and age, he’s similar to recently released Andre Goodman… if the Broncos can get him for cheaper, it makes all the sense in the world.

(Here’s an interesting nugget, though — Goodman is visiting the Titans, too.)

Brian Xanders

Just a bit over two weeks after the 2012 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos have decided to part ways with general manager Brian Xanders.

Per the Denver Post:

“John [Elway] and I had a lengthy conversation today and we mutually decided to part ways for the best interest of my career aspirations,”’’ Xanders said. “I appreciated everything that Pat Bowlen has done for the Broncos and for bringing me here in 2008. It was great working with Coach John Fox. I’m telling you, he’s a great coach to work with. And it was great working with John Elway.”

Brian Xanders joined the Broncos with former coach Josh McDaniels after fourteen years with the Atlanta Falcons.

In his four years with the Broncos, Xanders’ role was a bit of a mystery to the fans. After the firing of Josh McDaniels, Xanders claimed that McDaniels had the final say and made all of the decisions. When Elway took control of the Broncos front office it was widely accepted that he had a strong hand in the Broncos war room. The Broncos also promoted scout Matt Russell to the Director of College Scouting.

What do you think Bronco fans? Will Elway take over the General Manager responsibilites, promote Matt Russell again, or even bring someone from the outside?

Mike Remmers

Oregon State tackle Mike Remmers vs. Wisconsin in 2011. (Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

Mike Remmers
Pos: Tackle
School: Oregon State
Class: Senior
Ht: 6’5″ Wt: 303 lbs.
40-time: 5.14 Bench: 20

Mike Remmers was a longtime starter for the Oregon State Beavers at right tackle before moving to left tackle in his senior season. A walk-on to start his career, Remmers was a finalist for the Burlsworth trophy, which is given annually to the best player in the country who began his career as a walk-on. Remmers finished his OSU career with 44 starts, good for sixth in school history.

The entire OSU team struggled in 2011, Remmers included. While he has the athleticism to be a fit at left tackle, he may simply be better suited at right. Watching film from 2010, I saw a very quick, athletic lineman able to hit multiple defenders with power. Watching film from 2011 (collective groan at the soundtrack), I was less impressed. He got pushed back in pass protection too often and looked lost at times in run blocking. His quarterback Sean Mannion was sacked 24 times.

Note: There are no in-depth scouting reports on Remmers that I could find, so these anecdotes are based on 10 minutes of film study. Hardly the thorough evaluation the player deserves. Click here to read the rest of this entry »
