Denver Broncos at Atlanta Falcons – Injury Report – Week 11 Wednesday Practice
First, the good news: tight end Tony Scheffler practiced fully on Wednesday, making it very likely that he’ll play against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Scheffler returned for the first time this past Thursday after suffering a groin injury before the bye; he was noticeably hindered by his injury as the game went on, but that didn’t stop him from catching four balls for 92 yards.
Now the bad: Champ Bailey said he was going to try to play this weekend, but that possibility took a turn for the worse after the Pro Bowler didn’t participate in practice on Wednesday. It’s still possibly Bailey will see the field, but he’ll have to put in more practice in the next two days to make it happen.
Meanwhile, RB Selvin Young missed practice Wednesday. Both he and Scheffler fought through their injuries to play against the Browns, but Young looked far less ready. I’d be surprised to see him suit up Sunday.
Meanwhile, our friend Jason Elam sat out of practice as well with a hip. Not sure what that’s about, but something tells me he’ll be just fine.
We’re the most injured team in the league, but we’re not letting that stop us. Missing Champ and Selvin hurts, but the Broncos can still get it done. Injury report from both teams after the jump. Click here to read the rest of this entry »
Denver Broncos Head Coach Mike Shanahan and quarterback Jay Cutler took the mic Wednesday in their weekly presser. The running back situation – what with the additions of Tatum Bell and Alex Haynes this week after the Broncos placed their fourth RB on IR this season – dominated the discussion.
“He was the only one left,” Mike Shanahan joked when asked about Bell’s return to the Broncos. “No, Tatum has played well when he has played here. He has averaged around five yards (per carry) and when you take a look at his production it kind of gives you an idea of how successful he has been as a running back. Obviously we needed somebody that is familiar with our system and our terminology. I don’t think he’s in great football shape yet, but hopefully in a short time he will be.”

The NFL has announced that Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler will be awarded the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award for games played in Week 10. Cutler threw for 447 yards and three touchdowns against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday.
Cutler was also tagged as the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September. In other words, for five out of ten weeks thus far in the NFL season, Cutler has been Top Dog in the AFC.
You can also VOTE for Cutler, along with WR Eddie Royal, for weekly fan-voting awards through Fed Ex, Diet Pepsi, and NFL.com. Go here to vote for Cutler for Fed Ex Air Player of the Week. Go here to vote for Royal for Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Week.

The Denver Broncos waived wide receiver Glenn Martinez Tuesday, whom the club signed only a few weeks ago. The move allowed the team to sign Tatum Bell to their active roster.
Prediction: In two weeks, in another surreal switch of former Broncos I thought would never again don the orange and blue, the Broncos will bring back Todd Sauerbrun to take Bell’s roster spot… I never, EVER thought Bell would be a Bronco again. The Denver Broncos have brought back Tatum Bell. When asked about the move, Bell sounded contrite and humble to ESPN —
“I’m humbled,” Bell said. “I didn’t think I was going to get another chance, to be honest. I thanked coach [Mike] Shanahan for giving me this chance. I’ll do whatever it takes. I’ll play special teams. I’ll play center. I’ll do whatever it takes to help the Denver Broncos win.”
Can’t deny I like the sound of that. You’re warming up to me, Tatum…

The Denver Broncos are desperate for a running back. So desperate, in fact, that they have signed everyone’s favorite klepto, former Bronco Tatum Bell on Tuesday.
Bell, accused of stealing Rudi Johnson‘s bags shortly before his release from the Detroit Lions, hasn’t been able to find work in the NFL and was most recently seen selling cell phones in a Denver-area mall. No, we’re not kidding.
It’s the second running back signing the Broncos have made this week. The club added Alex Haynes on Monday.
Bell spent 2004-2006 with the Broncos before being traded to the Lions.
If I’m a Broncos player, I’m holding onto my luggage a whole lot tighter on a long plane trip to Atlanta this weekend. Am I excited for the possibility, strictly on the field? Sure – Bell tallied nearly 2,000 total rushing yards in 2005 and 2006. I just hope Bell makes the best of what is almost certainly his one last chance in the NFL.
