Let out a big sigh of relief, Broncos fans. It looks like Knowshon Moreno is going to be okay.

Mike Florio of PFT is reporting that Moreno’s MRI results Saturday revealed a sprained MCL, a much better verdict than an torn ACL, which would have derailed his rookie season.

Depending on the severity of the sprain, Moreno could be day-to-day or out for a few weeks. ESPN’s Bill Williamson reports that it is a “mild” knee sprain, and Moreno should be ready for the regular season opener September 13th. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

“He (Orton) made a few mistakes, but we’re not going to go into this thing after the first preseason game and start tailspinning and doing this and that and making knee-jerk reactions.” — Head Coach Josh McDaniel

Consider your disclaimer about knee-jerk reactions acknowledged, Coach. I get why you have to say it… You did pick the wrong guy to start, and that could be seen as an example of your poor judgment and player evaluation skills. However, I don’t care one lick about whether you got it wrong or not. I just want to see the best player starting.

As pointed out before I’m not a huge McDaniel’s fan, so bare with me (I promise I’m through with the sarcastic part of the post)…

The Denver Broncos‘ 2009 offensive debut couldn’t have gone much worse. Kyle Orton was awful, throwing an interception on each of his first three possessions, and rookie running back Knowshon Moreno suffered a sprained knee, the severity of which won’t be known until his MRI Saturday. Overall the first-team offense’s struggles put the Broncos in a 9-0 hole at halftime from which they couldn’t recover, and the San Francisco 49ers went on to win 17-16.

Not that there weren’t positives to be taken from this game. Backup QB Chris Simms nearly pulled out the win, throwing two touchdowns in the second half that included a beautiful 52-yard bomb to rookie WR Kenny McKinley. Defensive Coordinator Mike Nolan‘s new 3-4 scheme got after the quarterback, registering four sacks for the night. Several rookies stepped up and made plays, and the special teams played solid football for four quarters.

But it wasn’t enough, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed in the performance the Broncos just left on the field. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Marshall

The jury has ruled on Brandon Marshall‘s misdemeanor battery case, finding the Denver Broncos wide receiver not guilty for charges stemming from a March 2008 incident between Marshall and his ex-girlfriend Rasheedah Watley. The two-day hearing began Thursday in Atlanta, GA, with the six-person jury reaching the decision after just over an hour Friday.

UPDATE: Meanwhile, the Denver Post reports that Marshall’s hip is healthy, citing an NFL source. He should return to the practice field next week. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Unlike Michael Crabtree I will be at the preseason opener on Friday. Some of you out there are lucky enough to have the NFL Network. For those of you out there who don’t and who want some witty, semi-insightful commentary, and pictures from the stadium (perhaps a candid McDaniels naughty face?). It’s simple join Twitter and follow myself, Mr_East_BT, and broncotalk too while you’re at it!  Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Episode Three of the Broncos Nation Podcast is available for download/streaming to those of you kind enough to partake. Josh and Kyle were both missing from this episode, so hopefully Danh and I were able to hold it down. We covered our expectations for the Brandon Marshall trial, the Broncos running back situation (Knowshon Moreno, Correll Buckhalter, Peyton Hillis and LaMont Jordan), what to expect out of Kyle Orton against the San Francisco 49ers, who to look for on the Broncos offense and who to look for on the Broncos defense tonight. We also got into the Michael Vick signing and Tom Brady’s first half against the Philadelphia Eagles.

SF

I think I’ll bring these posts back from 2007. This is just a quick list of things I’m looking forward to seeing in our upcoming game. This week it’s our preseason opener against the 49ers — and I’m completely stoked to finally see bronco jersey’s running around under the lights again!

Here is a look at what I’m most excited about seeing this evening…

COACHING
I’m pretty excited to see how our new head coach operates on the sidelines. I have a good feeling that the folks at the NFL Network will give us some good footage of McDaniels as he runs the game tonight, and I’m looking forward to watching him closely. The thing I’m most interested in is playcalling… Click here to read the rest of this entry »

We continue our look at the 2009 preseason with another unanswered question pressing our Denver Broncos. The Broncos kick off their exhibition games at San Francisco on Friday at 8pm MT.

If the nose tackle position is the gateway to success in a 3-4 defense, Ronald Fields is holding the key. But just as Head Coach Josh McDaniels has said several times now, no one is guaranteed a starting spot at this point in camp. And a certain undrafted rookie is nipping at Fields’ heels.

Chris Baker was heralded by some as the second best nose tackle in the entire 2009 draft. Yet off-field issues left him suspended and ultimately expelled from Penn State in 2007. After playing (and dominating) for Hampton University in 2008, Baker declared for the NFL draft, where some considered him a second-or-third round talent. It wasn’t to be, though; Baker fell out of the draft completely and signed a free agent contract with the Broncos shortly thereafter. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Before Knowshon Moreno signed his mega-buck deal with the Broncos last week, he was already raking in the professional athlete endorsement dough. Check out our boy testing his acting chops in these Reebok commercials – The Lighter Side of Training Camp (second KnoMo video after the jump).
