On Tuesday evening, the BroncoTalk Alpha League conducted its LIVE draft! Only one player couldn’t make the entire draft, though a couple of players bounced around a bit and ended up with some auto picking. Nonetheless, the draft went off very well. My initial thoughts are that the skill of the drafters clearly varied amongst our crew, and I think the league is going to be somewhat skewed with 3 or 4 powerhouse teams and a bunch of mediocre teams. So pretty much like the NFL. Of course, the NFL being what it is, the real skill will come out in weeks 3-10 during bye weeks, when the free agency gaming starts. A great draft is important, but good free agency can cover a lot of errors. Or unfortunate injuries. I mean, I did draft Tom Brady in two different leagues last year. Oops.

If you want to follow along at home, you can go to the BroncoTalk Alpha League Page and watch the scores, follow free agency, and I think registered users might be able to post on the forum even if they aren’t in the league. Join in the smack talk! Also, I will casually note that ESPN really loves my team. Actually more than I do. I don’t know why it’s projecting me so well, I think it’s expecting a bit much from some of the players, but maybe they know something I don’t.

Roman Oben

Roman Oben is a retired offensive lineman who played in the NFL for twelve seasons, playing for the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and San Diego Chargers. Oben was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to talk some Broncos, AFC West, and the 2009 NFL landscape with us.  To thank him we want to encourage everyone to check out his official website and follow him on twitter.  Seriously, do it.  And check out the interview, do that too! Enjoy!

BT: You competed against the Broncos during the team’s greatest era, when it won two Super Bowls. What do you recall about playing against Denver?

RO: My fondest memory of the Broncos was beating them in ’98 in Giants stadium to stop their regular season winning streak! As a Charger, the Broncos were the team who owned the AFC West. They were the AFC West benchmark and the ones we had to dethrone!

BT: Now that the tables have turned and the Chargers are the team to dethrone, do you see a fourth straight division title in their future?

The Chargers should definitely win the division, but I don’t think it will be a six game sweep. Someone will beat them on the road. Could it be Denver? Click here to read the rest of this entry »

HEAD COACH JOSH McDANIELS

On QB Kyle Orton’s performance in practice this week

“He has done fine. The ability to throw the ball doesn’t seem to be hampered too much, which is good. That is really what we are trying to focus on and make sure that we go through the next few days here and not have any setbacks. Hopefully, everything will be a go.”

Paul Brown stadium in Cincinnati

Broncos fans hoping to throw a season kickoff party in Ohio may have to make other plans.

According to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, as many as six NFL games could be blacked out in local markets this weekend, in accordance with the league’s long-standing home sellout rule.

The Denver Broncos regular season opener at the Cincinnati Bengals is one of them.

The magic number of unsold tickets isn’t encouraging, either. Reedy reports that 5,000 tickets need to be sold within “about 24 hours” (as of 12:27 p.m. Wednesday local time) for the Bengals to avoid their first blackout in five seasons. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

I think it’s safe to say our offense underwent “limited participation” today. The Bengals’, on the other hand, didn’t. At least not when it comes to Carson Palmer (Bengals report after the jump). Click here to read the rest of this entry »
