Repeat after me, Denver Broncos fans: The Broncos have a pass rush.
Sounds good, doesn’t it? We’ve only been waiting ten years or so to say it.
The Broncos have tallied 21.0 sacks on the season, good for first place in the AFC and tied for first in the NFL. No one in the NFL gets after the quarterback better than the Broncos.
Leading the charge of the Sack City Revolution is one Elvis Dumervil, linebacker. Dumervil has 10 sacks in six games, including 2.0 in Monday night’s win — a figure that projects to 26.5 sacks by season’s end.
In other words, four full sacks over the league record set by Michael Strahan in 2001.
With games against the sack-able Steelers, Raiders, Chiefs, Chargers, and Eagles still on the horizon for the Broncos, it’s entirely possible that, if he can stay healthy, Dumervil will threaten to break a record that previously stood for 17 years.
Either way, these sacks are turning into big W’s for the Broncos. We’re sure Elvis is just fine with that.
Some sobering news from a story we mentioned earlier — Walt Daniels, the stadium worker who fell 25 feet at Qualcomm before the game Monday, died in the hospital as a result of his injuries. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Broncos 34 – Chargers 23. This is the sweetest victory Broncos fans have had in a long time — at least since the 2005 playoffs. Lately, the BT Staffers have been beating me to the punch, dishing out the game balls and calling dibs on players before I elicit their response. I love it. It’s good to be a Broncos fan. Alright Team BT, who ya got?!
Elvis Dumervil. Much akin to Eddie Royal in this game, we do not come away with a W if Elvis Dumervil is not in the lineup. Everytime we were able to get pressure using a 4 or 5 man rush, it was Doom’s ability to win the edge consistently that disrupted Rivers on his blindside. Not only was he able to pile on the sacks, coming up with a huge turnover in the middle of the game which turned the tide in Denver’s favor, but his relentless pass rush through the 2nd half was the stake in the heart of San Diego’s offense. – Josh Temple

McDANIELS LEADS BRONCOS TO 6-0 START
With the win over the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football, Denver Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels became the fourth rookie head coach in the Super Bowl era (since 1966) to start 6-0. He joins Red Miller (1977) as only the second head coach in Denver history to win his first six games with the club.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 6-0 Denver Broncos.
The Broncos swarmed Philip Rivers. They destroyed Ladainian Tomlinson. They dominated the Chargers‘ offensive line, Eddie Royal returned both a punt and kickoff for a touchdown, and Tony Scheffler became the latest Bronco to enjoy a breakout game as the Broncos knocked out the Chargers 34-23 in Week 6 action.
With the win, the Broncos move to 6-0 and gain a 3-1/2 game lead over the defending AFC West champion Chargers.
Again, the defense shut down its opponent in the second half. The Chargers converted only one third-or-fourth down, and that was off a (bogus) pass interference penalty on Andre Goodman. The offense wasn’t as explosive as the past few weeks, but made just enough plays to win — not that they needed to be with Royal’s 14 Special Teams points.
Denver heads into its bye healthy, happy and undefeated. Broncos Country, enjoy. What a special season.

ESPN’s Suzie Kolber and Michele Tafoya give us a Monday Night Football pregame report that doesn’t really tell us anything new, but it’s from the Qualcomm sidelines, so it’s cool and relevant. GO BRONCOS!

Part of the fallout resulting from the Broncos‘ decision to fire Mike Shanahan in December is the tumult of rumors regarding where he’ll end up next.
The Washington Redskins‘ sluggish start has only expedited the rumor-process, the latest being that owner Dan Syner offered Shanahan the coaching job outright, and Shanny refused. From NFL FanHouse — Click here to read the rest of this entry »
