Here it is fans, Tebow Time.

It has been confirmed that Tim Tebow will start his first game in the NFL tomorrow against the Oakland Raiders.

As of early Saturday an announcement had not been made on the status of Kyle Orton, who will be traveling to Oakland.

Orton this season is fourth in the NFL with 3,653 passing yards.

Tebow has run the ball 12 times for 28 yards and three touchdowns, he has also passed once for a touchdown.

Here we are now Tebow, entertain us.

Start Tebow.

No, I am not joining the ranks of anti-Kyle Orton, not at all. However, if Tim Tebow’s ever going to be worth anything to the Denver Broncos it will have to be this season.

Other writers have commented that it would be, ‘Throwing Tebow to the wolves,’ to start him against the Oakland Raiders. I look at it differently, I look at it like the Broncos not going quietly into the night. It’s Denver giving every effort they possibly have forth to win the game, if Tebow’s a miserable failure, well there’s an incredible backup in Orton to replace him.

As it turns out Orton may not be available to bail out a potentially struggling Tebow after all; due to sore ribs Orton has yet to throw a football in practice this week. That leaves Brady Quinn who is still an adequate backup. Somewhere Josh McDaniels is crying and Eric Studesville‘s practicing his whistle’s lanyard twirl.

Originally I wasn’t against drafting Tebow, but I was against starting him. I thought it was a good idea to put him in against the Jacksonville Jaguars and he’s scored a touchdown nearly every time he’s touched the ball this season. I have never agreed with the, ‘Tebow Time!’ cries of the crowd though. Until now, unfortunately/fortunately it looks like it is going to be more out of necessity than as a positive effort to what remains of a dismantled coaching staff, a dismantled era, an era that never was and possibly never will be. This wasn’t the type of statement an interim head coach would like to make in his debut.

Dear Mr. Pat Bowlen and Mr. Joe Ellis,

Before you go and sign someone to coach the Denver Broncos that most of your season ticket holders, fans and supporters will have to Google to figure out who he is, I implore you, I beg you two to sign Bill Cowher as soon as possible to be the head coach of the Broncos.

Mr. Bowlen, the story of how you practically stalked, snuck into the San Francisco 49ers hotel and courted Mike Shanahan prior to hiring him to replace Wade Phillips is legendary. You knew who the team needed, you even had the patience to wait a season or two for him. As soon as it became within the rules of signing him you were there to meet with him and you signed him. Three years later Denver had the city’s first of two Super Bowl victories. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Moments ago ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that the Denver Broncos plan to sign kicker Steve Hauschka, to replace Matt Prater who is apparently nursing a groin injury.

Hauschka was signed out of NC State to compete with Ryan Longwell of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2008 preseason. He was claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Ravens and signed to their practice squad. In 2009 Hauschka was released by the Ravens after going 9 of 13 (69.2%).

Most recently he kicked for the UFL’s Las Vegas Locomotives and set a record in October for most field goals in one game (three).

UPDATE: It’s official, with a press release from the Broncos they have announced the signing of Hauschka and the release of offensive lineman Stanley Daniels. Still no word on the status of Prater.

I think that most writers who have been covering John Elway‘s more predominant role with the Denver Broncos have forgot recent history (I am pointing at you Mike Florio). In 2004 Pat Bowlen attempted to sell Elway ten-percent of the Broncos, but was blocked by the Broncos’ former owner Edgar Kaiser. Colorado courts ruled that Kaiser was entitled to buy ten-percent back, under the same circumstances that Bowlen had provided to Elway.

Bowlen and Elway along with Stan Kroenke (the current owner of St. Louis Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rapids, Colorado Avalanche and major shareholder of the English soccer club Arsenal) also co-owned the Arena Football League’s Colorado Crush. The Crush won the Arena Football title in 2005 and maintained as one of the best teams in the AFL.

Why wouldn’t Bowlen want Elway to be a big part of his franchise? Who cares about Elway’s scouting experience; Elway has been a major part of every title Bowlen’s ever been a part of. Elway was the major reason Bowlen let Dan Reeves walk and brought in Mike Shanahan (and two Super Bowl victories over the next three seasons). As a matter of fact, the Broncos have only won playoff game since Elway’s been gone.

So welcome home John, hope that your voice is prominent in the next meeting between Bowlen, Joe Ellis and Brian Xanders. Please give be sure to give your opinion on who Denver’s next head coach/offensive coordinator/defensive coordinator should be. We the fans are all ears and I certainly hope Mr. Bowlen is as well.

This FanHouse piece by Thomas George details the deteriorating relationship Josh McDaniels had with his players as the end neared.

Several Broncos players and coaches told me that this coach’s in-game knowledge is superior. But his managing skills — of players and people, of even practices — was subpar. A Bill Belichick disciple, he sounds every bit like the young Belichick that was fired in Cleveland in 1996.

Denver’s final four games of the season could be the last games nine-time Pro Bowler Champ Bailey plays for the Broncos.

Tuesday night at a charity event, Bailey told Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post, “It’s not all in my hands. I just know that once I’m a free agent, I can control where I go, and it’s about who wants me, hopefully, the Broncos will want me.”

He’ll be a free agent after this season and it should be noted, what a player and agent merit as ‘wanting’ is quite different than what teams considering wanting.  If the Broncos try to sign Bailey to a smaller contract, the 32-year old cornerback may not be interested given the team will be on it’s 4th Head Coach (including one interim) in the past four years.

“I hope whatever plan they go with they believe in it, they stick with it and let it play itself out,” Bailey said. “I don’t know if I could stand another change, after this one. This is the last straw for me. I really don’t like dealing with this now, not at this point in my career.”

In the Post, Jones writes that whoever the Broncos hire as the new head coach, and potentially general manager, will affect how much Bailey will want to remain in Denver.

Sounds like Bailey thinks the Broncos prematurely fired Josh McDaniels. He emphatically rebuffed the rumors of a supposed verbal altercation between him, McDaniels, and a few other players, and said last night  that he hopes the team will stick with the new coach and direction the team decides to go.

Alcorn State linebacker Lee Robinson at the 2009 scouting combine (ESPN)

In the wake of placing linebacker Joe Mays and tight end Dan Grankowski on Injured Reserve Monday, the Denver Broncos activated LB Lee Robinson from their practice squad and signed free agent TE Dan Coats.

For Robinson, this represents his first opportunity on an NFL roster after spending the last two years on the practice squads of the Broncos, Cardinals, and Bucs.  Robinson is a blue collar hard-worker who was a BT favorite to make the roster during 2009 training camp and graciously gave us a few minutes of interviews during our coverage that year.  Way to go, Lee.

Coats has played in 53 career games with the Cincinnati Bengals, tallying 30 receptions for 291 yards in that span.
